Win98 workstation logon to win2000 domain, with TCP/IP
protocol only, does not work,(both computer with fixed IP
address and within the same sub-net) after added the
netbeui protocol to both computers, logon process is very
smooth and fast, strange behaviour....please help. Thank

HI Andy,

Looks like the TCP stack on the win98 pc is gone rotten. Have you tried to
uninstall everything in the net'hood properties, nic included and then
shutdown the pc. restart and re-install the nic, tcp/ip and tested that
way. I had similar trouble in the past and the above procedure did the
trick. It looks more software related than hardware, NetBeui, is OK for
peer-to-peer, but as you may know it is a non-routable protocol and
depending on the pc specs, it may add unwanted overheads.

Got WINS installed on the server? Does DHCP have options 044 and 046 (0x8)?
How many nics in the server?
