Inheritance Network

MD = POP account
users = pop account = Exchange as storage.

MD wants exchange but wants to download his mail whilst at home via his pop
account.

Would this still work......

Just wondering if one uses cached mode in the office and once home they
connect to their home lan network and receive mail via another pop account
would
the mail go the offline folder.

The network is not fully exchange enabled

Just wondering since i can't test this scenario but I'm sure it would work.

you speak of 'cached mode' which is an Outlook 2003 facility but are posting
to an SBS2000 newsgroup, makes me wonder if your question is better asked in
an SBS 2003 group.

SBS public Newsgroups:

SBS 4.x: microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz
SBS 2000: microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz2000
SBS 2003: microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs

if your current news server does not carry the mentioned groups you should
be able to connect directly to news.microsoft.com

either way, Yes, you can enable POP into the server and leave a copy on it,
but if it is in fact SBS2003 there is a MUCH better alternative - Exchange
RPC over HTTPS.

The sbs2k3, exchange is not fully setup, no isa, everyone has static ips, 1
nic in server, and all the other cowboy/shotgun practices you can imagine.
No ISA even though they have the premium version.

Connecting to exchange from outside is a physical impossibility at this
moment.

Server is set to auto update the last person told the owner it's the best
way to run your server.

Users have separate pop accts from ISP then mail is stored in exchange.

Like i said previously user wants exchange but when he get home he wants to
receive his email without any hassles.
RPC over https looks very good but not at this moment until a nice
re-install clean slate.

So is my idea possible or I'm i wasting my time.

Thank you for the reply just need some guidance.

As SG mentioned since this is about SBS 2003 you should take the question to
this group:
microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs

I think your best bet is to get all components properly installed so that
you can use Exchange. The MD should be happy with Outlook 2003 using RPC
over HTTP for mail at home.
