Hi! I have a client who we want to possible move to sbs2003 premium. My
question is this: they have two static ip's (one for the web and one for
their WAN side). Currently, they have a router that directs dmz to the web
server and the other to their lan switches. They are currently not a
domain, only peer2peer.

What is the best practices if they want to have their own web server (I like
keeping it separate from their sbs box) and having the sbsbox be the pdc?

Any thoughts would greatly help. Thanks.

I am a big fan of having web sites hosted by hosting companies. We've had a
small company hosting ours sort of as a favor because of our other business
relationships. Now, they're going out of the hosting business, and I've
found that professional hosting is $4 to $10 per month. The hosting company
has redundant power, security, backup - probably significantly better
infrastructure than will be found in any small business. Even if security
were not an issue, I can't see any way to host my own for less than $120 per
year.

That said, if they want to host their own in a dmz with a different IP from
their wan-side SBS IP, that shouldn't be a problem if they're comfortable
that they can handle the security. In that case, it's no different than
having it hosted elsewhere - its still not a part of their private network.

SBS will have to be the "pdc." (Generally it would be the only domain
controller).

DAve is 100% on the mark with this. Besides the greater level of quality
you will give you much more detailed stats on your hits.
