Hi! I think I'm back to taking baby steps again. I have a SBS2k PDC. I
have a Win2k Server as member server (print server, terminal server in
application mode, file server). We have a Netopia router.

I can't get VPN or terminal services to work. Idealistically, I'd like the
user to term serv in to the member server with their user rights. My
question is this. If I point the router to the member server's ip address
for port 3389, how is the login verified with the AD is on the PDC?

How can I create client setup disks when the laptop has no floppy drive. MS
gives no option for CD, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So, I take you are not using ISA at all? SBS only one NIC? What happens when
you try to VPN directly to the router??? (assuming it has this capability)

Using the client setup disc is covinient... but everything can be done
manually.

I'm sorry, I didn't give enough info. There are two nics in the SBS box.
ISA is installed and running.

When I vpn in, it logs me into the SBS box, but I have no access to drives
or anything. In fact, an icon shows up in the bottom right-hand corner of
SBS box as a connection--then the SBS can't get out. No Internet, etc. I
have to go into Remote Routing and stop it.

Hi Les,

Thanks for the tip. I've gone through that before, and just redid it.
I can connect vpn, but I can't browse the network (doesn't see
anything--only my laptop), no mapped drives are assigned, etc. Virtually,
all I see is the little computer icon in the bottom right showing a
connection.
When I connect in used remote desktop as administrator, I can see one
vpn connected--myself.

Any other thoughts?

internal ip range is 10:0.0.2 (SBS box) member server 10.0.0.4
external nic is 192.168.3.100

the ip pool for connections is 10.0.0.60 - 10.0.0.64

Marcia,

Have you got SBS SP1 or 1a installed?

<snip>
Other Updates

Small Business Server Updates. To address security and support issues,
the
following bug fixes have been made to Small Business Server:
VPN clients are able to browse the network and connect to a network
shared
folder.

Client computers running Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP
can view Network Neighborhood.

Also, if the remote is XP, the ICF on the vpn connection may interfere (not

If you want to use the floppy method, share a floppy from another computer
on the network.
