I set up a new SBS2K server to replace an existing one,
and I used all of the same details from the old server.
My scope in dhcp is 10.0.0.1 to 250. what is my
exchange/smtp ip address? I cant find it. my mails are
working in and out . they are pop3 accounts.

any help would be appreciated.

What Exchange/SMTP IP address?

-You mean that you want to create an MX record pointing to your SBS server
in order to accept SMTP mail? If that's the case... it's just the public IP
address of the external NIC (or of the router... depending on your
configuration). Just be careful if you have a dynamic IP address.

-If you mean relaying SMTP mail from inside the Lan (from a client to the
server)... then is just the internal IP address on the internal NIC (just
remember that if you are using outlook this is not necessary).

-If you mean what is the SMTP IP address where you can use a smarthost to
relay your mail to... then ask your ISP.

The company is installing a photocopier scanner that produces PDF files
ready for emailing. We want the pdf then to be sent to whicever mail user
that wants to send the attachment, so the scanner people are looking for the
ip address of exchange? In the old server the ip address of exchange is
10.0.0.2 the nic of the server is 10.0.0.1

Since the photocopier/scanner is inside your lan, you want the internal IP
address of your SBS server. Run ipconfig and get whichever corresponds to
the internal nic. Exchange by itself doesn't have an IP address... the
server is the one who has it (so my guess is that in the old server you are
talking about a different NIC or you are telling it wrong).

The name of the SBS server is the same as your exchange, the IP address for
the name is the one you gave it on install (The address is the static IP on
the internal NIC)

You can also ping the server from a workstation by name and it will return
the IP address.
