After installing the new windows update installer and some security fixes,
I'm now no longer able to connect the W2K server to the Windows Update site.
Error 0x80072F78. KB836985 is no help.

TIA,

Fred

Mate I searched for *weeks* - *months* - trying to find a solution to
this problem.

I found the answer from a post in:
microsoft.public.windowsupdate

I gave this KB article number to the MS WindowsUpdate support professional.
Waiting for further instructions.

I can't install some of the mentioned KB hot fixes as I receive the error
ie6Sp1 required. It is ie6sp1! Waiting for the fixed winnit.dll from MS.

Thanks,

Fred

The workaround works by the way but it is crude!

I found that what worked for me, was the ISA bit - once I had created
the ISA rules, everything worked.

Could this be what is causing a prob. I have with a plain w2k Server?
It keeps saying a certain (sorry, do not have note of number) IE update
needs installing.. You install it, and it then says it needs installing
again?
Am trying (not very successfully) not to run IE from the Server at this
site, but there are not enough machines for me to grab one at times. ;-(

I have the same with the .NET update. Will try to install over and over
again. I've hiden it as it is not needed on the server. This has nothing to
do with the problem at hand: >V5 of Windows Update behind a ISA server.

You can try to download the KB download from the MS site and install it
manually.

Fred
