    - Exchange full text indexing /outlook xp Having fun testing the Full Text Indexing on exchange 2000 in our SBS 2000 set up. we are placing some contacts and tasks in our public folders and the search speed up is noticable. FTI is a search on words and not a character by character search according to documentation from MS This is true of our tasks folders but the contact folders ARE a character by character search !! ??? Why ?? is there an exception when you search contact folders that are in the public folder (when indexing is turned on) Server checks out OK - indexing IS working but a search on 'oss' in the contacts folders will find 'boss' 'moss' etc I dont understand why this is not mentioned anywhere Any ideas ??     - Add Remote Office Server to Domain Hi there, I have a client with SBS2K at Head Office and the Remote office runs a W2K Server as a domain controller. I have recently installed a Router to Router VPN between the 2 offices, the servers can now ping each other and run a search across the network and find each other. However the remote office runs a different domain and I think it would be best to change it to the Head Office domain but keep some services locally and just send the minimum across the VPN plus the application data. I have found the Microsoft documents detailing this but they don't advise what to do if setting up from a previous domain. Ie the MS Docs assume a new system. Does anyone have any ideas?     - Fax Sharing Recommendations I have just tried to set up Fax Sharing on our SBS2000 box with an ext. Hayes Accura modem - and guess what, same old problem with receiving faxes. Don't worry, I'm not going to ask for a solution (unless someone has found one!) - I am just wondering if people could help recommend one of the following: 1) A cheapish external fax modem that will definately work with SBS 2000 Shared Fax! 2) A good (but also cheapish) alternative software solution that will work with the Hayes modem - all we need is for faxes to be received on one modem and sent to an e-mail address.     - Slow ASP Page Loads Hello: We have built an application using SQL server 2000 backend, ASP, JavaScript, ActiveX running on SBS2000. Problem is we get uneven response times on page loads. Sometimes it is incredibly fast and at other times, I could make a pot of coffee between the 'click' and the load. Any ideas where I should look?     - Problem with Remote Desktop Connection Hello, SBS2K. XP clients. I am trying to set up Remote Desktop Connection to be able to remote control these PCs (I have TightVNC, but sometimes I need to do it this way). Anyway, I have configured a Group Policy at the server to allow remote control. I set the Remote Control Settings policy (under Administrative Templates > Windows Components/Terminal Services) to Full Control Without User's Permission. That should have worked. It did not. I did verify, using the Group Policy Management snapin that the PCs are receiving the policy. When I tried to log into the PC using Remote Desktop Connection, I received the following error: Local Policy Does Not Permit You to Log On Interactively That said, I edited the GPO to allow Administrators local logon rights (which I believe is the default config anyway).     - can't connect to vpn hi... got client that used to be able to connect to server (2000 sbs) via vpn. and browse settings etc. the remote machine is 2k pro and ha zone alarm (free) for f/wall says that after applying some updates (for windows) that he can no longer browse the network via his vpn. vpn connects can ping the server via vpn using \\192.168.16.2 to try and browse via file explorer.. have allowed vpn/sbs ip range as trusted another remote machine.. vpn'd into server can browse problem remote machine, again via vpn. sounds like ZA is stripping out something. but the only thing that has changed has been windows updates ideas ?     - Dynamic DNS thru ADSL in SBS2000-3 Does anybody know of a roadmap for configuring SBS2000 and 2003 DNS and ISA services to work with internet services like ZoneEdit that provide a routable tcp/ip address to servers that are assigned dynamic ip's by ADSL service providers ?? For example, we have a 2003 SBS server with an ADSL connection to the internet ... two nics, a 192.x.x.x internal zone, and a 10.x.x.x external connection to the ADSL router. Our internal domain name is ourname.local, and we own ourname.net. We want to run Exchange, web site, and FTP site that can be reached as ourname.net. We have already set up the proper connections with ZoneEdit, and are using DirectUpdate to maintain the current ip address of our server. However when ZoneEdit tries to connect to our server, we get a message "host=ourname.net failed - (15533 ) Destination host is unreachable" This can't be an unusual configuration .. A roadmap with screen shots would be helpful .. those DNS and ISA tech notes that deal with every possible contingency and obscure the obvious make my eyes glaze over. Appreciate all input.     - Group Policy Problems Hello, I am trying to configure a laptop for in-office and outside use. (See post "Setting Up Laptop on the Network") Anyway, there are Group Policies that I do not want applied to mobiles users and computers. With that, I created a new OU in Active Directory under the one where all other users and computers are stored to contain all mobile users and computers. On the properties of the OU, I checked the Block Policy Inheritance box. On the parent OU, I enabled No Override on those elements I wanted to apply to the mobile OU. It seems like that should solve the problem, but when I run a Group Policy Results report from the Group Policy Management Console, all GPOs are applied. This doesn't seem right to me.     - Memory page faults Hi. I am running a fully patched sbs2k box with a gig of ram (With the page file set to approx 1500MB). Applications on the network are really slowing down, including exchange and our fox pro accounts system. The server status page is constantly showing about 30% free memory. However, on health monitor it keeps showing excessive page faults (>200/sec). Upon further investigation in performance monitor it shows that WinMgmt process is causing nearly all of the page faults (an average of 100/sec). It also shows about 70% of memory being commited and that my page file usage is around 50%. Throught the monitoring the page file % use peaked at 60% and the available memory hardly changed. What I dont understand is why I'm getting page faults if there is still RAM and virtual memory available? Would these page faults be causing the slow response on the network?     - Different colored filenames I'm sorry for the silly question but I have a very fickle user who wants to know the answer. Files listed in his shared folder are of two different colors. Some are listed in black and some are listed in blue. He is complaining that the files listed in blue hurt his eyes. Is there a way to change the color to just black? He also wants to know why some are listed in blue while others aren't. I told him it was because the blue listed files are older files that have been compressed. Was I correct?     - ISA 2000 SP2 Firewall Client Update I have installed SP2 on the server and the ISA Management Console shows this to be the version. As per instructions I have attempted to upgrade Firewall Client by running setup.exe from the shared mspclnt folder in Program Files\Microsoft ISA Server\Clients from the client. However, I don't get the option to Repair and the firewallc.log reports the ISA Setup Build no: 3.0.1200.50 and not 3.0.1200.365 SP2 (which I assume it should).     - Setting Up Laptop on the Network Hello, SBS2K. I am trying to set up a laptop for a traveling salesman where he can plug into the office network when he is in and VPN when he is away. So far, I have installed the firewall client and changed the laptop from a workgroup to the domain. I am able to hit the internet as well as map drives. I cannot, however get the user's Outlook to open his mailbox. When I open Outlook XP, it gives the following message: Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Unable to display the selected folder or item. You do not have permission to log on. Not sure why I am getting that message. The settings in Control Panel > Mail seem to be okay. Any ideas? That said, I am thinking that changing from a workgroup to joining the domain was a bad idea. For my laptop, it is in its own workgroup and I am able to do everything I need to whether I am in the office on the network or not. The only thing I have to do it change the settings on the Firewall Client. When I am in the office or VPN'ed in, I just enable the Firewall Client. When I am on my hoe network, I just disable it. Everything works fine that way. The reason I have it like this is so that I do not have to switch users/profiles. I can use the same one all the time. Also, I should mention that I use Roaming User Profiles. Of course, on my laptop, the roaming profile does not work. Any ideas on a better way to do this.     - Fax service installation on XP Hi, I have configured all client PCs (Win98, Win2K) for fax client software - OK - but it will not install on XP pro PCs. I have installed fax services of XP as asked, thru windows add/remove components and installed fax client. It is now visable in the PCs services window. I've started and stopped the service, added user, etc but the same message comes up when re-trying the SBS 2000 fax software installation on PC. As soon as I hit the 'start now' SBS fax software installation, it defaults to INSTALL FAX SOFTWARE THROUGH ADD/REMOVE COMPONENTS which I've done! The fax is working great on the non XP machines. But all 6 XP PCs are having this problem - it must be something quite common. Has anyone come across this??     - Outlook 2000 Terminal server installation Hello I have a customer running 2 servers, a windows 2000 SBS and a windows 2000 terminal server. I would like to install Outlook 2000 on the terminal server, but I can only find a terminal server transform file (TermSrvr.mst) for Office 2000 and not for Outlook by itself.     - Please help- SBS 2000 Upgrade I have a customr who has a SBS 2000 on a Compaq ML530 server- currently non RAID (Several disks). He wishes to upgrade to include a RAID 5 configuration using 3 disks. How easy is this to achieve?. Obviously on a normal Windows 2000 server this is fairly straightforward- but on a SBS 2000 with exchange server this is a bit more involved. What would the procedure be for achieving this?     - Emails bouncing in SBS2000 This is a second post on the same problem. I am now wondering if there is a virus that can bounce certain emails and leave others to be delivered. It is like there is an exception list, however I have checked the delivery messages filter. It is empty. What happens is that certain emails are returned to the sender as undelivered. For example Judith.Hunt@test.water.gov.au sends an email to ihunt@boaccount.com.au. It is returned and postmaster gets the message about it being undeliverable possibly because it is bouncing between two servers. The problem is escalating. Another one is vjack@algw.gov.au sends an email to vjack@boaccount.com.au. Nortons AntiVirus Enterprise edition with Exchange is running and is not reporting any viruses. I redid the server, but saved the emails and I think that was a mistake. Can ideas?? Thanks Gypsy PS It is a standard setup of SBS 2000 using Exchange 2000 service pack 3 is installed.     - Exchange 2000 installation question Hi: a consultant came and installed Exchange 2000 on our SBS2000. But the installation was on the C drive. And now I have 4gb left on my C. I want to move these files to a logical drive where I have 35GB. How can I move everything to avoid Exchange2000 from using my limited resources from my C drive. All the installation is under C:\program files\exchsvr. Also notice that there is a drive named M:\Excahnge (local drive) with the exact amount left from the CD drive.     - POP3 Connected Stopped Working We are having a problem with a POP3 connector issue. It has been working fine for over a year. Then stopped. I have been able to get the server to download the messages from the POP3 server, but they are not getting routed to the end users. Where do I need to go to get that fixed.     - Pls Help Hi, We have a site with SBS2000 server, and win2000 server, with 27 users, 25 users can see both the servers through My network places, so we can map drives. But three users cant see the win2000 server, nor can map the drives on that server, we can ping the server. The funny part is if we logon not using the domain, but the local PC, we can see the win2000 server. i am at my end on this. has anyone come across this problem. ps. the error we get when we try and access the win2000 server is that "No logon server is present" the SBS2000 server is fine.     - proxy not allowing ftp access hi.. i've had my first experience of a sbs 4.5 server...exchange 5.5 anyway. issue is that one user can log onto an ftp site. it is used to update their external web page. this user has no problem logging on. Another user Different PC cannot access same site. gives error that "folder xxxxxx.org.uk is read only because the proxy server is not set up to allow access" looking at it further the machine that does allow access, anyone can access via this machine. it has no proxy info in the internet info section. also none of the machines (they are all xp pro) have default gateway setting issued from dhcp. any ideas, pointers etc.. i've tried sacrificing a chicken but that doesn't seem to have worked Tag: Windows 2000 SBS Tag: 161540

    - HELP PLEASE! I have a major problem. A virus got into our Exchange 2000 system and cleared out the Exchange databases. I have no backup of them but I do have the transaction logs. I recovered these but they are all named DE1.log, DE10.log, DE100.log and so on instead of E0000001.log, E00000002.log, etc. I have looked everywhere an cannot find what these files are and if these files will work for recovery. Also, these recovered files are around 8.5GB which were on a 10GB drive. This leads me to believe that they contain the info I need to recover the databases. Thanks!!!     - System error LSASS.EXE Can anyone give me some back ground on the following. When I start my computer I cannot log on to Windows SBS 2003. I also receive the following error: "System error LSASS.EXE: When trying to update a password the return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct."     - PCAnywhere on a SBS Client though ISA. I'm trying to set up PCanywhere on a client computer so I can remotely administer various applications running on the server, through the Internet. Firstly I'll expalin the configuration. I have a Small Business server which acts as the DCHP server and issues IP addresses under 10.0.1.x The server also runs ISA, and all clients have access to the Internet through the Firewall Client. The server has direct access to ADSL broadband through a static IP address. The client computer is 10.0.1.20 and has PCanywhere running waiting or a connection I have looked through loads of support questions on the internet, but can't seem to get it to work.     - SBS 2003/SQL and ISA problem For some unknown reason every time our CAD/CAM system accesses the SQL database on our SBS server it triggers a connection to the internet.     - SBS to Router VPN - something blocking TFTP? Hi all, Previously posted [initially under VPN from Draytek Vigor 2900...] but things have moved on a little since then. Current situation is this: SBS2K - dual NIC set-up with ISA 'sitting in the middle' - 2nd NIC connecting to Broadband [cable modem] Remote office connecting via Draytek Vigor 2900Gi For testing purposes, this is how we have things set-up currently: LAN - 172.16.0.x IP-enabled phone system - 172.16.0.50 [*not* a Windows-based system as many are - Avaya IP Office] SBS internal NIC - 172.16.0.1 ISA SBS external NIC - 192.168.42.2 - acting as VPN Server [RRAS/ISA configured and working] Broadband Router - 192.168.42.10 - PPTP [1723] pass-through to 192.168.42.2 enabled and working Vigor External Fixed IP - 192.168.42.50 - gateway of 192.168.42.10 Vigor Internal Fixed IP - 192.168.90.1 - acting as DHCP Server Laptop - 192.168.90.2 - assigned by Vigor - gateway of 192.168.90.1 IP hardphone - 192.168.90.170 - fixed IP address - gateway of 192.168.90.1 Try as we could, we could *not* manage to initiate a stable VPN connection from the Vigor to the SBS box - we kept coming up against 'could not successfully negotiate any network protocols' in the Event Logs on the SBS box. We were attempting to connect using PPTP and had configured the Server to the lowest possible level [i.e. not requiring encryption etc and allowing PAP, etc...] Therefore, we changed tack a little and can bring up a stable VPN connection from the SBS box to the Vigor, with the corresponding static routes configured both ends. We can thereafter do the following: From the SBS Server, ping anything on the 192.168.90.x range successfully From the laptop at the Vigor end, ping anything on the 172.16.0.x range successfully At this stage we thought we had it cracked. However... It appears that TFTP traffic [at least] is being blocked or otherhow prevented from being fully 'transported' between the LANs. On running a trace of the phone system engineering software, we can see that a request from the laptop at the Vigor end is received by the system at 172.16.0.50 but that it cannot appear to transmit the requested data back to the 192.168.90.x side successfully, failing with an 'unreachable net' error. Likewise, from any of the SBS LAN clients, we cannot ping anything on the 192.168.90.x range - in fact, although we can ping the likes of our ISP's domain from any of the SBS LAN clients, we cannot ping anything on the 192.168.42.x side either. Anyone got any ideas? I cannot help but think that we're now missing something simple at the SBS side that is the root of this and that resolving it cannot be far away.     - OWA, SSL & HTML formatted e-mails I have successfully set up OWA using SSL (as per Chad A Gross excellent guide), and generally it works fine. However, an internal e-mail in HTML format (using Outlook) cannot be read using OWA - a 404 page not found is generated, with suggestions to open the mail.domain.com home page etc. But if an HTML format e-mail is received from an external source, that can be read OK.     - Internet conn with Win 98 workstation on SBS2003 I have a site with a Windows 98 machine (yes I know and I have told them to replace this machine) running on a SBS 2003 Standard network. I cannot access the Internet through the Lan. It runs the SBS login script okay, it is slow to load a mapped drive, but it cannot access the Internet.     - Block Port 1433 on windows 2000 server Hi I have a question regarding the SQL Server(SQL Server 7) port 1433. Some body is trying to hack into our Windows 2000 server through port 1433. Is there a way i can close this port? I tried using a tool called Ipsecpol.exe ( Internet Protocol Security Policies Tool). But when we run netstat, it still looks like they are able to connect to the server using port 1433. Has anyone come across this problem?     - IPSec policy storage failed to open... I have a group policy defined on our Win2K terminal Server. This policy was configured on our Windows 2000 Small Business Server using an MMC group policy snapin. When I double click the Group Policy I want to manage for our terminal server (called True2 Policy) and then try to open the security settings (Console root\True2 Policy\Computer configuration\Windows Settings\Security settings), I get the following error... 'The IPSec policy storage failed to open" Does anyone have any ideas what to look for to fix this? Nothing shows up in event viewer so I have no clue where to look. OK Have to ask ...."why SBS 2000 and Not SBS 2003 ?"

Std Support Lifecycle is 5 Years and I've not heard of any extension for
SBS.
