    - No administrator console on SBS 2000, can I fix this faulty installation ? Hi everybody, we bought new server hardware this week, and had the company who sold it to us install SBS 2000 (a licence we bought a few years ago) from the installation media we provided (actually, the SBS 2000 Upgrade DVD). The server is now running in our network as the domain controller, but it seems we didn't exactly get a full install of "Small Business Server". The imminent problem is that we cannot use our "SBS 2000 5 Client" addon disk on it, so 5 of our colleagues are left with no workstation. Looking into the problem, I found out there is no SBS Administrator Console in the start menu, and the file "itprosbsconsole.msc" does not even exist on the harddisk. By searching the web I figured out that company who did the install probably didn't install the whole thing, so the server isn't actually running as a "Small Business Server 2000", but rather as a Windows 2000 Server, for which we have no addon licences. Now to fix this problem quickly, I tried to install the consoles myself to the running system. When I pop in the DVD (the actual CD1 is not readable anymore), and run "setup.exe" from the CD1 folder, the setup starts and asks me to insert a "Backoffice 4.0 or 4.5" CD1 (of course, because the SBS 2000 is an upgrade version). So, I out in the 4.5 CD1 and now I get the error message (roughly translated): "You cannot upgrade this install of Windows with the CD you inserted." So, I cannot install the Administrator console. What I would like to know, is what possibilities am I left with here: - Do I need a full reinstall from scratch? - If so, is it possible to install the SBS 2000 Server from the DVD, or do I need to use the CDs (what is the difference) - As a full reinstall is a time problem, is there a way to get working addon licenses to this SBS 2000 "mutation" I am running now, for a quick fix? - Will I run into any other problems with this faulty install I might not be aware of?     - Migration problems I'm in the middle of migrating from SBS2000 to standard 2003 products. Have installed the new server, ran DCPROMO,moved the FSMO all except domain naming master, think I have to seize that role. My big problem is Exchange, have moved the mailboxes with system manager to the new server. Then I'm going to "Remove the first Exchange 2000 server" from the site. But that doesn't work . I can see the SBS server from Exchange 2003 system manger, but the SBS Exchange doesn't see the new server. When I try to rehome public, OAB etc it fails.     - Automated Email not being delivered Hi All I have a supplier that sends out information via email to an unknown amount of undisclosed recepients. I do not ever receive the email. I have asked the supplier to email me directly without using the automated system and I can then receive the email. So my setup of SBS2000 is not blocking their domain. It just seems that when they use the automated system i cannot receive the email. I use the microsoft Pop3 connector to download mail. I do not have any other problems receiving email for our domain.     - FTPCtrs Error When I reboot our server I get an error that says Component Services Erro .. check Event Viewer Log and that it is either a driver or program error. I found the error in the event viewer log and it is the FtpCtrs as the source. In the description, it says Unable to collect the FTP performance statistics. The error code returned by the service is data DWORD 0. Eventy ID is 1000.     - Critical: Service not running SERVER Hi, I have got the problem that the e-mail (via POP3) get's downloaded but is not getting delivered to the actual mailboxes of the users.     - CAL questions From MS' licensing site: "... You can either purchase a CAL for every device (used by any user) that accesses your server, or purchase a CAL for every named user that accesses your servers (from any device). Devices include not only desktop workstations in your office but also mobile phones that have Internet access, handheld PCs, and remote workstations. Whichever type of CAL you choose, a separate Windows Small Business Server 2003 CAL (of either type) is required for each user or device that accesses or uses the server software on any of your servers." Does this mean that someone who has email being copied/forwarded from their company account to a Blackberry needs a CAL for the Blackberry? I'm not sure if an automatic forward counts as another device, especially since it's going to the blackberry servers. I would compare it to auto-forwarding to a yahoo mail account, except that the blackberry does synch up with Outlook. Also, I know that servers need CALs for SBS, but what determines that? If I have a separate web server, do I need a CAL for it? As far as I can see, traffic will be going through the firewall to the web server (have yet to put it in a DMZ) and bypassing the SBS server altogher. "Device CALs might make most economic and administrative sense for an organization that has multiple users for one device, such as shift workers. User CALs might make most sense for an organization that has many roaming employees who access the corporate network from unknown devices and/or employees who access the network through multiple devices." OK this makes it seem that user CALs are what we need. However, how does SBS handle the same account connecting from multiple computers? There are a couple of people who use about six different machines for video editing, and they log on with the one account to all those machine. "The number of Windows Small Business Server 2003 CALs required equals the maximum number of users or devices that may simultaneously access or use the server software installed on a particular server. The Windows Small Business Server 2003 CALs that you purchase are designated for use exclusively with a particular server. You have the right to switch one time to the other license typeâ??from user CALs to device CALs or from device CALs to user CALs.     - Opening Ports for Antivirus Update though Firewall Client Hi I'm using panda antivirus installed on every client machine. But the update engine cannot access the internet correctly. There are setting to point to a proxy server. ie //http:server on 8080. Which is correct. Setting this makes no difference. I have spoken to tech support at panda, and they say that I need to open ports 80 and 8003 for the updates to be carried out correctly. Can anyone tell me how to do this.     - Unable to add member server I have done this a couple times and it has always worked. I have a newly created SBS 2K domain. I have not yet configured ISA, but have DNS, DHCP and AD working. Have created a client setup disk to try and add new member server (to be promoted to a DC to support Primary DC/GC) - not worked.     - Defragging a RAID system... Are there any issues with using the Defrag utility located in "Computer Management" with a RAID system? We have a three-disk RAID 5 system on our SBS machine. Over the holidays I want to do some server upgrades/maintenance etc... and this is one of the things I want to do.     - vpn sbs to sbs Hi All We have managed to connect our 2 sbs sites via vpn but have found that we are unable to terminal services from any computers on the lan to any computers on the other lan apart from the sbs box. The only ones that can terminal services beyond the sbs boxes are the sbs's themselves. On doing a tracert we have found that the destination sbs Ip is as far as it will go. Does anyone know the answer to this, is it ISA blocking or what?. Static routes have been but in ras and the routes have been added on the local machines via route add to no avail.     - SMTP Mail not working Just yesterday I noticed no one's mail getting sent out. I checked the Exchanger Vitural Server's Quene and they are all sitting there waitng. The only thing that has changed is our ISP changed our static internet IP address and last week I installed Symantec Mail Security for Exchange Server.     - delayed email... Recenlty one of my uses came ot me and mentioned that one of the people she has attempted to reply back to (using "reply") was not getting her email - and that she had not received an NDR as of yet. I checked the Exchange System Management - queue and indeed there was the email waiting to be delivered... The email sat in there for a few days, retrying, waiting to be delivered and then finally after a few days our employee did get an NDR back. She asked me why this was happening (why she hadn;t received an NDR right away) and I mentioned that there could be any number of reasons and rhymed off a couple that I thought may cause it... SHe had received a couple of delayed notices and then finally the NDR came in... What reasons could there be that a seemingly valid email address could not be devlivered? I had mentioned to our employee that it was possible that the receipients server was not allowing incoming emails (the recipient works for the government) and yet this person had asked our employee to respond back to her initial email - so I would think that this person would have been able to receive email in the past... What other reasons could there be? I am just concerned that it may have been an issue at our end but doubt that as once it leaves here, it's out of our control really, and all other external email has been working just fine...     - Outlook02 and XP Pro Hi, We are running SBS2000 on a LAN with 60% Win2K Pro with Outlook2002 client and the rest run Win XP Pro with Outlook 2002 client. What I have noticed is that when users view their Exchange Mailbox on the XP Pro machines using Outlook 2002 client, they need to click around the folders (e.g. Sent Items) in folder view to refresh their Inbox, otherwise any new emails would not appear in their Inbox automatically.     - SBS2K with MIS 2002? Hi all, Think I may already know the answer but thought I'd check it out first... I know that MIS2002 isn't supported for installation on the same box as SBS2K [and that MIS has been superceded with Exchange 2003 which has the functionality built-in] but am wondering if this is one of those situations whereby it would work but was just not the prefered solution. IE it was recommended not to be set-up that way but that it could be made to work... We're going to be moving onto SBS2K3 sometime in 2005 but this is something that would be enormously handy for some of our users to have now. I know they can simply ActiveSync from their PC/laptop to their Smartphones but I'd prefer them to be able to do some while out and about in real-time...     - netmodem problem I had an XP machine using netmodem conneting to a server(SBS2000). Sometime around installing XP service pack 2, this connection failed (I'm not positive it's related). I've uninstalled and re-installed net modem several times including removing all shared ports and starting over. Following the instructions in "How to set up a Windows XP Professional client in an SBS 2000 network, article ID 316418", the network modem never shows up in device manager so naturally it won't install in "phones and modems".     - internet connection sharing and VPN setup I have two network cards on my server. One is connected to T1 line and other one is connected to LAN. I am trying to share internet connection on the server with everone on the LAN. I tried through Routing and Remote access, setup Internet network setup. It works fine. But I try to enable VPN access through ISA server, my connections sharing stops working. I am not able to set both at the same time. Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.     - Exchange Migration Upgrading a SBS2K to SBS 2003. I backed up all the data and did a NT BAckup of the exchange database. Let's say I experience exchange problems after the upgrade, will I have to isntall SBS2K again to get the email working?     - cant send email but can receive I'm setting up a very small sbc config. All I want to do is have the performance reports send email to an external (bellsouth) email address. I am thinking I have to configure the exchange piece. Ive gotten the pop3 connector working so it pulls email from bellsouth but it will not send email to bellsouth. The message is something about bellsouth not knowing who my domain is. Question is is there a way to have the perf and usage reports sent to a bellsouth account without doing the exchagne config or do I have to do that and if I do have to config exchange how do I get past this error.     - Spam in Exchange server Hi, I was troubleshooting a problem on my SBS2K server where I am receiving an enormous amount of messages in the badmail folder. I followed the instructions to create a new bad mail folder and delete the old one but am getting thousands of files in the folder per hour. This prompted me to check for unauthorized relaying. When I checked the Default SMTP virtual server's queues, I found hundreds. I followed the steps to clean up the smtp queues (however, the only way I could get the Small Business SMTP Connector to stabilize was by clearing the check box for Anonymous access on the Authentication page of the Default SMTP Virtual Server Properties. This stopped the bad mail messages and the SMTP queues, but also stopped users from receiving e-mail (although they were able to send just fine). Selecting the Anonymous access check box restored the users' ability to receive mail, but also brought back the bad mail messages and the numerous queues. What am I doing incorrectly here?     - info@domain account in SBS 2003 In a Small Business Server 2003 Premium: While trying to create a user with an account name of INFO and having the e-mail address info@ourdomain where ourdomain is our own domain, I receive the message that an account already exists with this e-mail address. I try to find in Active Directory such an account, to no avail. However, the creation/modification of the user account can be completed with no other problems. Subsequently, messages incoming to this "new" account are bounced back with an error message stating that more than one accounts are configured to this e-mail address. What gives? Have you ever encountered such a problem. I've tried searching this problem in MSDN, but obviously my search string/keywords are incorrect.     - slow response Hi I have sbs 2000 which has been going well for about 12 months. Now, if I press the "windows START" on the task bar either 1. nothing happens, ie no response, or 2.it only displays the first 3/4 of the menu. If I do a "ctrl,alt,del" and select "task manager" "processes" the START suddenly springs into action.From then on I can open and close START no problems. It is after half an hour or so of idle time when I come back it freezes again When the START gives no or slow response, I can still open up any of the desktop icons no problem. Any help appreciated.     - Remote Desktop Web Connection OK, this is new to me and I have read everything I have in book form. Unfortunatly everything is a few years old and talks more about dial-up rather than DSL connections and is absent any XP Pro data. I have also read most of the thread and just don't seem to be getting it all. :( I have an SBS 2000 machine and I have an off-site XP Pro client. This user wants to administrate the SBS over his DSL connection. The SBS is also using ISA server to act as point of outgoing tunnel for all on-site clients to get to the Internet. So, what's the best way for this user to get the job done?? Does the XP RDWC remove the need for Terminal Services? Do I sitll need to create a VPN connection to use RDW client? will have 10-15 message is there. The wierd thing however is the fact that
some of mail that is stuck in the box actally does send it just never leaves
the outbox. I did reset his account but other than that I am trying to
figure out what I can do next.

Hi Eddie is it SP2 XP ?

Had this issue with some and turning off firewall resolved it. Doesn't make
sense though as another pc with SP2 firewall on works fine..

You can always try deleting (or renaming) and recreating the Outlook
profile. Narrow it down to either Outlook or the server mailbox by having
the user log in at a different computer and see if the problem appears there
(my bet is that it won't - it sounds like an Outlook issue). Start Outlook
in safe mode by typing "outlook /safe" on a run line (without the quotes).
If the problem does not happen in safe mode, it's an Outlook add-in - you
can check/disable these from Tools/Options/Other/Advanced.
