Relative novice here, so please forgive...

We currently have the following config:
-Single NIC server box running AD, DNS, DHCP, IIS
-192.168.16.x internal IP range (very small network)
-Sprint ADSL modem/router (internal IP addy 192.168.16.1 with an external
static IP address)
-24-port hub
- The server, the DSL router and all workstations connect to the hub, the
DSL router via a crossover cable.
-Default gateway is 192.168.16.1
-Internal NIC and DNS address is 192.168.16.2
-Network is great, Internet connectivity is great.

My goal is to run ISA so we can use the firewall feature and to point a
registered domain to our static IP. I installed a second NIC to be able to
run ISA. There are conflicting articles with MS about how to configure the
second NIC and ISA and have tried various combinations. But when I install
ISA, my internet connectivity goes away.

I configured the second NIC as:
IP address = the static external IP address assigned to us by Sprint
Default gateway = the gateway address supplied by Sprint
DNS server = 192.168.16.2 (I also tried using the DNS servers supplied by
Sprint)

Then, configured ISA:
IP address = the static external IP address assigned to us by Sprint
Default gateway = the gateway address supplied by Sprint
DNS server = the DNS servers supplied by Sprint

Then connected the DSL router to the second NIC via the crossover cable
(also tried a regular CAT5 patch cable).

I also tried to run ICW, but it stops with an error message, and the
icwlog.txt shows an error returned from call to RegisterMSBOExchangeBP().

No matter what I do, I have to return to my original configuration to have
internet access. I have searched MS and this newsgroup, but can't find any
solution that helps. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Britt

Britt,

See if the web page below helps with the network configuation (I assume you
have SBS 2000)...

Thanks for the QUICK response. You guys are great. Since the DSL box
serves as the router, do I need to make any changes to it, and/or make my
server a router? Any thoughts on why ICW is stopping ("interrupted" as the
process calls it)?

Re: Want to Use ISA with 2-NIC by Merv

First, set up your network per the diagram at the M&M's web site. Then
follow the text. Use straight patch cables (not crossover). The Static WAN
IP from your ISP goes on the WAN side of the router. The external NIC on
your SBS and the LAN side of the router must be in the same subnet (example:
192.168.1.x ). The SBS server and your workstations will be in a different
subnet (192.168.16.x). Only the external NIC gets plugged into the LAN side
of the router (no workstations).

Forward any ports that you'll need on the router to your "external" (second)
NIC:

3389: for RDP to server
1723 (along with GRE Protocol 47): for VPN to server
25: for Exchange (if using the SBS server as your direct mailserver)
Any others required

Since ICW can't get out to the Internet, I suspect that's why it's failing.

If you're truly using a 24-port "hub" (and not a switch), consider buying a
switch for your SBS/workstations. Network access should increase
significantly.
