For those running WSUS, SP1 is available for download. For those who have
not installed WSUS yet, a full download package including SP1 is available
as well.

If you've been procrastinating your WSUS installation, now's the time. A
whole install and configuration of WSUS should take you less time than a
single trip from one client PC to another running MU and Office Update, and
you'll never have to do that again. The process for installing on SBS is
simple and well documented, and there's plenty of experience in these groups
if you run into an issue.

The link that you have included in your post Dave is for WSUS and SP1
combined....is that correct? Is there a file that is just SP1 for WSUS?
I'm not finding it if there is. Or will that be downloaded to WSUS and show
as being available to update?

Thanks

WSUS SP1 will show up in a couple of weeks in existing WSUS RTM servers

You can get the SP - for those who are already running WSUS RTM - at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/updateservices/downloads/WSUSSP1.mspx

You can get the complete WSUS install files including SP1 at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9E89E4EF-00A8-4193-8997-FE4E92215A57&displaylang=en

If I'd known kj's info about existing installs service packing themselves in
a couple of weeks, I might have waited. I'm not sure there's any reason to
do this manually just to get it a little sooner.

About the only reasons I can see for needing to SP now is support for Vista
Beta and/or SQL2005.

If it works as advertised, it should save some time updating all the WSUS
servers I (we) support.

Ken - I just flipped quickly through the SBS 2003 doc and can't see anything
that would be different on 2K, with the possible exception of the procedure
you use for creating/editing the GPO. I recommend going ahead and
installing it with that doc, then if you have issues, please post back in
this group.

Two things to watch for and/or consider - while installing, pay careful
attention to point the installer to the drive where you want WSUS installed.
I have it on its own drive and it's currently using just under 15 GB.
Secondly, I have two policies set up - my client PC policy is set up
according to the doc, but my servers are set to "download and notify" rather
than "download and install." On the clients, I also have the option set to
not force a reboot. At the end of the day, instead of "shut down" the
prompt is "install updates and shut down." If they just log out, the
updates install automatically overnight.

Hi - Curious if anyone ever got WSUS to work on a SBS 2000 system? My

being supported by Microsoft nor any instructions germaine to SBS, only for

Thanks!

It works fine, but you have to do the MSDE part manual and watch out for a
few landmines.

Just follow the Windows 2000 specific instructions and read the deployment
documentation completly and carefully.
