    - POP3 Deleting Email Email is being picked up from email pop host account, but it is not being distributed to internal email accounts. Can send/receive internal emails fine. Can send external emails fine. Just can not get an external email to be delivered to an internal mailbox. Was working fine friday morning and friday afternoon email just stopped coming in.     - the wizard was interrupted before microsoft shared fax The SBS 2000 server and the Shared Fax Server component have been working fine for some time now. For some reason, the Shared Fax Server was removed and now when I try to reinstall it . I get an error message: Microsoft Shared Fax Setup error.     - SMTP connector unavailable I have a client running SBS 2000 with a dynamic IP address. I have repeatedly tried to get this converted to static but no one will listen to me. Naturally, outbound e-mail is a problem. I tried using a smarthost for all the outbound e-mail, but the outbound mail queue would get stuck until I switched it back to DNS. But when I use DNS, then AOL and others get cranky because it's a dynamic IP. Finally, I set up a second SMTP connector just for AOL and its ilk, leaving everything else on DNS. I had about one or two dozen domains on the smarthost. This seemed to work for a long time, but yesterday the client called complaining that the e-mail routed through the smarthost was not making it out. When we look at the status of the smarthost SMTP connector, it shows "unavailable." Right-clicking on it and starting it releases the mail, but shortly afterward the connector goes down again. The smarthost (a cable ISP) pings okay, and I was able to set up Outlook Express on the server with an account at the ISP, which worked fine. I need at a minimum that the smarthost connector resets itself it it goes down so that the mail eventually goes out. Where do I go from here? Tag: Users dropped? Tag: 178749

    - Connector for POP3 Mailboxes service terminated unexpectedly We're running SBS2000 with all of the latest service packs and updates available from the Microsoft Update site. The other day our server logged the following event The Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes service terminated unexpectedly. Event ID 7031. Whenever the service is restarted, it stops again about 7 minutes later. No other services are affected and no other events are logged - I've turned up the POP3 logging to maximum. Our server is unable to run the POP3 service long enough to download all of our mail - so we don't get any - its all still in our ISPs mailbox. I've scanned for viruses and nothing found.     - Priv1.edb & stm moving I have SBS 2000 and need to move these Priv1 files to another drive. If I use Echange manager and browse to new location does it automatically dismount and move the databases like it does when you move the logs or do you have to manually move them?     - SBS 2000 Computer Name When the SBS 2000 Server was originally setup, the PC's were joined to MYCOMPANY.COM ... this was used only for local Exchange Address books; there was no actual MYCOMPANY.COM. Now though there is a Web Site and we are experiencing multiple (DNS?) problems (slow logins, intermittent internet, etc.). Is this because of the naming convention, or (I suspect) malware? The only way to get the Internet to work properly is to input the ISP DNS address in the DNS properties instead of the SBS NIC, and the SBS keeps losing its shares. Thx in advance Tag: Users dropped?     - VPN using PIX 501 Hi I'm trying to set up a VPN connection using a PIX 501E Firewall and Cisco VPN client. The server has a router two NICs static IP addresses and ISA. The external NIC address is 10.0.0.2 and the internal NIC is 192,168.16.2. The PIX 501 issue the VPN Client with an IP address of 192.168.18.n The client creates the VPN successfully, but connecting to the Exchange server is not consistent, and I cannot acess any shares on the server.     - No outgoing email - everything else OK I have reinstalled IIS and Exchange and rerun the Internet connection wizard. Incoming email and All general Internet access is working fine Outgoing email sites in Q's under the SMTP Virtual Server. I use DNS to send...but have tried the ISP's Smart Host. It appears as SMTP is blocked going out. I can not connect to external mail server by Telnet'ing port 25. SMTPDiag comes back with ... Now here's the kicker.... My ISP thought there was some virus comgin from our server last weekend...so I scanned the server with Symantec Corp Edition AV. I can not tell you if email had stopped before or after that scan...but when I was researching the SMTP problem I found out what a bad idea that is on a server that is running Exchange. File level scans on the M drive are not good....apparently. So I looked at the default scan settings and the M drive is in there...so it was scanned. So I thought maybe the scan corrupted something so I did the reinstall of IIS and Exchange. No change. So something could still be broke by that scan?? Or SMTP could be blocked by ISA??     - How to add winxp client to SBS2K I'm just getting into this upgrade to SBS2003 but Id like to upgrade all the client computers (6 small shop) to WinXP on the old SBS2000 first. I have a test system at XP/SP2 and Im able to join the domain by adjusting the network params but not by using the floppy disk on the XP computer. Outlook 2000 wont load on the new computer at signin. It seems like others are using XP clients but I cant find any DOCS to show the way. Any help would be GREAT!! TNX. Tag: Users dropped?     - SBS2k post build SQL install All, Need to load SQL onto a running SBS2k Server. Can I just run the install from CD2, or must I let CD1 autorun? Have tried CD1, but chickened out in case it decided to install SBS fresh over the top without giving me an 'add component' option.     - local policy does not allow you to log in interactively via TS Hi, I have SBS2000 DC and when a any user beside administrators try to logion via TS, they get this error message "local policy does not allow you to log in interactively" I made sure that the users group have access rights to loon locally from the security ploy for the domain but still get the same error. When I add any user to the administrators group, then they can logon with no problem. Any idea what I need to do to have users loon to the TS without having to be in the administrators group?     - Username & password greyed out On a network where WSUS was introduced this afternoon, a user has just reported that they cannot enter anything in the username or password fields at Ctrl-Alt-Del. If they select shut down, there is the Install Updates option you get with Windows Update. Restarting the PC (without installing any updates) has returned the Ctrl-Alt-Del prompt to it's normal state. Was this problem liked to WSUS?     - Shared fax service fails to generates receipt I have a problem with the SBS 2000 shared fax service. It has recently stopped generating email receipts to exchnage recipients and produces the following error in the event log: The fax service has failed to generate a positive delivery receipt using SMTP. The following error occurred: 0x80040211. This error code indicates the cause of the error. I belive this behaviour may have started on updating exchange with Update Rollup for Exchange 2000 (KB836488) but removing this update does not resolve the issue.     - DNS server assignment... We have a Win2K small business server and a member win2K3 DC in our environment acting as a backup DC. All PC's in our LAN have been assigned the IP address of the SBS machine for the "Preferred DNS server" and have been assigned the IP address of the backup DC machine for the "Alternate DNS server" setting. Recently I heard that the DNS addresses for all PC's should be an outside machine - not an internal one. Now I am second guessing myself! Am I correct in having all machines on the LAN being assigned our SBS machine as DNS server or should I have an outside as secondary and leave the SBS as primary? And, if I did this, how would PC's know what machine to get logon credentials from etc... if the SBS machine goes down???     - Changing an SBS2000 Premium box to SQL2000 server Hope someone can give me ideas for this project:- I've swing migrated our SBS2000 Premium to a new WSBS2003 Premium box. I now want to convert the old SBS2000 box to something running SQL2000 standard edition (an additional SQL server to the one built into the WSBS2003 box). Can a Transition pack do this, or is it cheaper to wipe it and lose the 30 CAL's in favour of a new Windows Server 2003 and SQL 2000 standard editions and CALs.     - Unable to open the Administrator Console in SBS 2000 When trying to open the Server Management console I get the following error: Server Busy This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose 'Switch To' to activate the busy program and correct the problem I then have 3 options 'SwitchTo', 'Retry' or 'Cancel' No matter what option I try I just end up with the same message - Server Busy Once I've tried to open the Server Management Console, the whole of the START menu is unavailable - meaning that I can click on the START button (or press the windows key) but nothing happens. The only way I can get any response is to reboot. Even then I struggle to get into other applications: Am trying to open Network connections, but whichever way I try the window will not open. Have tried via the START menu and via My computer | Control panel Other symptoms is that the server seems very slow. Task Mgr performance shows server running at between 47% - 100% yet I have little running in the way of Applications. Task Mgr Processes shows highest peak memory usage by W3Proxy.exe, Svchost.exe, DriverServer.ex (yes .ex - whatever that is?), sqlservr.exe and LSASS.EXE I've ran Panda and cleaned the odd item found. Have tried to run TrendMicro clean but application gets so far and then hangs, before even starting to scan. Norton reports everything ok virus wise. Although have now noticed that I can't get into the Symantec System Centre anymore. Dispite these issues on the server the network itself seems ok, users are not complaining as yet!     - Installing licenses with a USB floppy I recently had to rebuild a server for a customer. It is SBS 2000. The new server did not have a floppy drive. I need to use a USB floppy to install the license upgrade pack. However, when I try to install the license, after agreeing to the license agreement, I get a message that the license diskette is either damaged, a copy, or illegal. It is a brand new license disk, purchased in an unopened package. I've tried 2 license disks and have even replaced the USB floppy twice with no success. Any ideas as to what is going on here? Any way anybody knows of to get these licenses installed? The customer is a non- profit and doesn't really have the funds to buy a copy of 2003 SBS. Any help would be appreciated.     - POP3 Hi I have SBS 2000 with SP4. POP3 for Exchange is enable and some workers are downloading emails via POP3. From the inside its enable, but from the outside no. when I stop and start the smtp and POP3 services its working for a while, but stops. In the ISA server there is a rule to accept external connection for the POP3. The problem is only for workers who try to connect to the mail server from the outside. any idea?     - Event ID 1221 I was just reviewing the event log on my server when I noticed Event ID 1221 with the following description: The database "First Storage Group\Public Folder Store (SBSSERVER)" has 1 megabytes of free space after online defragmentation has terminated. I am very concerned that there is only 1 megabyte of free space available in my Public Folder Store, however I don't understand why this is the case. Given the 16gig limit for Exchange, when I browse folder C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA my database is nowhere near this size limit. Following is a directory listing: 11/08/2006 09:35p 592,650,240 priv1.edb 11/08/2006 09:35p 113,254,400 priv1.stm 11/09/2006 08:16a 1,016,209,408 pub1.edb 11/08/2006 09:35p 182,460,416 pub1.stm As you can see my public folders are only using 1gig of space. So I am confused, is there an immediate crisis going on with my Exchange database? Do I need to start purging e-mails right away?     - Upgrading to SBS2003 R2 & New hdwe. Do the CAL's for SBS2003 work for sbs2003 R2 or do I have to purchase new CAL's too? I will be purchasing a new server and installing R2 on it. Is the SWING method for upgrading really the best way to move everything from one box to another? And what exactly does it "move"? I only have about 30 users so I don't mind recreating them. My biggest concern is NOT loosing their email. I would like to have as much of a "fresh/clean" install as possible since we had someone poking around the SBS box trying this and trying that. Who know what's been changed and "made" to work but might not be done the "right" way. Any suggestions on new server hardware?     - Slow Response Times Some users have been reporting slow response times when opening their e-mail messages. From what I saw it would take about 5 to 10 seconds for a message to open. I checked the mailboxes in Exchange 2000 and nobody has an excessive amount of messages on the server. I run a backup every night of the Exchange store. I am not sure how to tell how much of the 16gig alloted space is used up, however I don't believe we are even close to the limit. Are there any other cleanup processes I should be running on a scheduled basis? To throw another curve into the mix, some of the users are complaining about the network in general being slower than usual. I have monitored the CPU, Hard Drive and Network bandwith on the server. All seem to be well within acceptable ranges. I am sort of at a loss as to where to begin troubleshooting these issues. The network has been running flawlessly for about 3 years now.     - RDC over VPN stopped working One of our remote workers (at a hotel) is currently having a problem with a RDC over VPN that has always worked in the past. He connects to the VPN with success, then when launching his RDC, he gets this message: "The client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection. Please try connecting again later. If the problem continues to occur, contact your administrator." We tried other RDCs & he cannot connect to any desktop at work location. The RDC is set to use Static IP address of desktops, not computer names. >From my location, I have successfully connected to his desktop through the same VPN. Could his hotel be blocking something?     - Window Media Services Hi, I just had the SBS 2000 with Isa 2000, and I used to have the Windows media services, so; I had WMA and WMV Files, so I use my domain for example mms://midomain.com/audiofile.wma , outside my network (internet) and I could play any file.     - Error installing Shared Fax When I try to install Microsoft Shared Fax on my 2000 Small Biz server I get the error message "an unexpected error occurred".     - Network goes AWOL after a couple of minutes (pt 2) Hi This continues the issue raised here: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz2000/browse_thread/thread/c5eb3d85f5853655/01915ae1a5b1d808?lnk=st&q=robsavage&rnum=2#01915ae1a5b1d808 Since then, the issue has come back repeatedly, and no matter what processes of elimation we try, we canot nail the problem down. For the past 2 months, they have had my own Cisco 2950 (not a 2940 as I said before) in place and had not a single problem. However, I want my switch back now! I am typing out a quote for a new Cisco switch, but expect them to ask why they should pay several hundred GBP just because we cannot identify the cause of the problem. I'm also dead nervous that if we sell them the switch and then the problem does happen again....! To recap - network goes down intermittently, with all lights lit up on the switch. Restart the switch and all is fine again. I have since plugged the server into the firewall so that in these situations, at least their mail server is still up and running to collect mail. But the problem remains. So it ain't the server causing the issue, as all that is connected to the switch when it goes down now are PCs and a printer. It just baffles me why the Cisco switch is so solid in this regard as opposed to the other switches. We had the original Dell unit back in place a couple of months ago, and they were getting the problem several times per week. I installed the Cisco, and there's not been a single occurrence since. After configuring RRAS, the Remote Windows Clients can successfully VPN the SBS-2003 and the performace is very good ... My delima is when I have tried to connect a Branch Office using different VPN Routers (NetGear - LinkSys) through IPSec but was never successful ... Also, I have followed Microsoft Guidelines in KB:816514 for configuring IPSec Tunneling in Windows 2003 Server and did all the recommended settings but with no luck ... For example, the NetGear FVS124G Router VPN Log shows the following: :: IKE phase-I negotiation started :: IKE phase-I message not received after retries :: Sending a Delete payload of protocol ISAKMP and Peer IP: 4568441c :: Deleting the IsakmpSA As seen from the above, the IKE Phase-I SA doesn't get a response and after (5) retries, it will delete the Phase-I SA proposal before even going to Phase-II SA ... Is there any other steps that I need to configure on the SBS-2003 Server-side other than creating the IPSec Policy ??? ...     - SBS2k Exchange recovery - HELP! All, SBS2k, Exchange has hit the end-stops bigtime. Ran offline defrag, and got system back up.. Client didn't have enough time to offload anything before ISP did a 'Mail DB failover'. - This resulted in the same emails coming in twice! Exchange lasted 16 hours between the end of defrag to keeling over again. This time, there was also an event log entry saying that the disk with Mdbdata on it had got to below 10MB free. - This not true. Partitions set to run chkdsk, and server rebooted. I presume there isn't a hack to increase the database size, as there is in Exchange2003? Is there a way to extract a mailbox from Exchange, when exchange won't run?     - When internet went, so did access to other servers? Odd one... and it has never happened before... Our T1 line from Verizon went down this AM, and within a couple of minutes, my users started getting Timeout issues connecting to the SQL Enterprise Edition on another server (which is a member of the domain). I could have sworn that they were unrelated at that time... I took one of the users PC's and changed it to a workgroup (removed it from the domain), and it could run the software on the other server which accesses that SQL server with out any issues. Went to one of the PC's that was still logged into the domain, and it could browse that SQL server, but would time out connecting to the database. T1 from Verizon comes back up... and bang... back in business. No more time out issues. Any suggestions, comments, what to do's? Hi all, Planning my NT to SBS 2003 R2 migration, I found that I don't have the full documentation on the server hardware - I know the CPU is a XEON 2.4 GHz, but not the frontside bus speed - could be either 400 or 533. I will need to add a CPU (board supports 2, currently 1 installed) but the CPUs must match. Seeing as I'm currently running NT 4 on this server, I can't use Intel's product info utility to get the info - Windows 2000 or higher required. Once it's running SBS 2003 I can easily run the piu utility to get the full processor specs in order to get a match. Can I add the CPU to the server AFTER the migration? Any gotcha's or watch-its?     - Motherboard Upgrade for SBS 2000 Server We have a customer with a SBS 2000 Server that is about five years old. The hard drives were recently replaced, so they have plenty of capacity and they are fast SCSI drives. We are getting ready to replace the motherboard, CPU and memory to get the server's hardware up to date. I have done this same procedure with a Windwows 2000 Server. In that case the operating system had trouble booting, so I just booted on the Windows 2000 CD and ran a repair, which loaded the proper drivers for the new hardware and everything was fine.     - Multiple instances of the QuickLaunch toolbar being loaded I have an annoying issue that is plaguing both my SBS server as well as our other win2K and win2k3 servers. If I log in locally or on a terminal server session, multiple copies of the "QuickLaunch" tool bar are being loaded. In some case 5 or 6 instances! It basically takes up the entire bottom of the screen. So to fix, you have to right-click somewhere on the task bar, click toolbars and uncheck the multiple instances of the QuickLaunch toolbar that are checked there. Something happened, and now half the computers take up to 20 minutes (8 WS, both W2K & XP Pro) to login. When I enable routing and remote access for VPN the server loses its LAN ip address (gets set to 0.0.0.0) this happens even though the tcpip properties still show 192.168.16.2. We are having problem with a smallbiz2000 server, it seems like the users
are being dropped by the server, and "only" after a password reset users can
access the shares and outlook again. And it also seems like users are logon
cached into the server? The problem occour once in a week minimum. We have
updated the server.
