I'm a big one for pointing folks elsewhere and maybe we have some Office =
"Experts" out there but this really is an Office issue as opposed to =
SBS.
Are you using roaming profiles?? if so you may have to delete this =
users profile and start over
The only software thats in use here that MS still provides any level of =
support for is SBS 2K and OL 2003
I wouldn't delete the user...just turn off roaming profiles if in =
use...if profile is stored on the server...delete it...if installed on =
the machine...delete it.
There are office utilities which will do an 'erase' of all Office =
installations files..not just an uninstall. That will let you =
re-install the apps. But this user needs to get up to supported =
versions of the software

I give up. I had a user who needed a zip utility. I downloaded =
ZipGenius=20
from MajorGeeks. It worked, but he had some problem while printing =
and then=20
couldn't access his email or run Office programs. I uninstalled =
ZipGenius,=20
but here is the current situation.
He has a Win98 workstation with Outlook 2000 attached to an SBS2K =
server=20
running Exchange 2K. He has Office 97 professional with Office Small=20
Business 2000 installed over it. (We kept 97 for Access.) He cannot =
open=20
his mailbox. When he tries to start Outlook, he gets a message that =
the=20
information store cannot be opened. He also cannot get to his mail =
from=20
other workstations running either Win98 or XP and Outlook 2000. He =
can,=20
however, get to his mail from a workstation running Outlook 2003.
He also cannot start Word or Excel. He gets an error message saying =
"The=20
Windows Installer failed to install the program associated with this =
file." =20
He cannot uninstall Office and can't reinstall Office. I thought it =
might be=20
a Windows Installer problem, so I tried reinstalling Windows Installer =
and=20
got a message saying, "The specified service already exists."
However, when I logged in as that user on an identical workstation, I =
got=20
the same problem. Even after I disconnected that workstation from the =
network, I could not open Word or Excel, which are installed on the =
local=20
hard drive. I could open them if I logged on as someone else.
I can't tell if it's a user issue or a mailbox issue or both. Can't=20
understand why it would affect a locally installed copy of Office on a =
disconnected workstation, except that I told the machine to copy down =
user=20
settings when I logged on to that workstation the first time.
Can anyone suggest a plan of action? I thought I'd delete and =
recreate the=20
user, but I'm not sure what the ramifications of that are.
