 - BackupExec Hi All, We have BackupExec v10.0 installed on our SBS 2000 Server. Attached is an Ultrium 460 tape drive but we have the following issue: Sometimes when we create a backup job, the compression setting and some other settings (mainly related to exchange) get initialised to some absurd values.  - SDSL/ADSL/Leased Line We are running SBS with ADSL 2MB with 1:20 contention ratio. We want to upgrade our comms due to increased users (20 to 55 in the space of 3 months) and more inbound VPN users. I need to know the core advantages/disadvantages of SDSL/ADSL/Leased Line ignoring for the timebeing prices and providers. Is there a document or whitepaper on the web explaining this. Furthermore I need to know about MPLS networks for Leased Line, as a sister company who already uses it is keen for us to join via Leased Line into their MPLS network.  - Moving SBS 2k to new Hardware W2k3 Dear NG, Here is my situation, we currently have one single Windows 2000 small business server which is a obviously a DC as well as running Exchange, we want to change to a new box and at the same time move away from SBS, we purchased Windows 2003 Std as well as Exchange 2003 Std which we'll load up on the new server which will also be a single box for DC and exchange but not SBS, so the question is how do I move everything over including users, computer accounts, permissions, mailboxes etc., I've moved to new hardware before without a problem, there are actually several great docs detailing this procedure but that didn't involve SBS, I couldn't find anything on moving from SBS to a regular domain, i did find this kb article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;555073 but the title is misleading because its only discussing move SBS to SBS. thanks Tag: User login to a particular workstation prevents access to OWA Tag: 177745

 - HTTP Proxy authentication We're running SBS2000 and one or two client computers occasionally, say about once per week but not exactly that schedule, gets a box popping up on the desktop stating "Your HTTP proxy requires user authentication, please enter username and password" followed by three boxes for entering information: Proxy address: SBSSERVER:8080 Username: Password: In the top of the box in the blue bar is written "Please enter password for..." but the rest is cut off and the box can't be expanded to read the whole line.  - OWA Hi - I'm still struggling with my web based e-mail. OWA right? I'm sbserver 2000 with exchange server running on same box. When I type in the URL (http??:mail.mydomain.com/exchange I get page not found. This has run off and on in the past so it is time to figure it out and fix it. I've done a lot of searches but here I am (again). Can somebody point me to a good turorial on how it is setup and run? Perhaps I'm just missing a service that is turned off. Help as always is great.  - Health Monitor Warning for Memory We were looking at the Health Monitor just now, and saw a warning under Memory. The name is, "Page Faults/sec >200". And the comment is, "If a large number of page faults are happening per second, you may have a memory bottleneck occurring. However, before you add more memory make sure that the memory bottleneck is not the caused by an inefficient application. Check Task Manager and see what the memory usage is and what applications are using all the memory. Starting and stopping some of these services may free up some memory in the short term."  - Contraol Panel options unavailablke to a domain member... I have a strange issue going on here... We have a Windows 2000 SBS domain in our company. I have some OU's set up and some policies are applied. However, nowhere do I have a policy set to not allow access to control panel options for domain users of any OU - EXCEPT for our terminal server users - who are in a separate OU altogether. I have one user on a new XP Pro SP2 laptop who is NOT in this OU at all, yet when he tries to access a control panel applet (i.e. Printers and other hardware) he gets the following message... "These Control Panel options are not available. The content of this Control Panel Category has been made unavailable by your system administrator. To make changes on this area, contact your system administrator." This user is logged onto the domain, and other users in the same OU who are also logged into the domain, have full access to their control panel applets. His domain account is also listed as local "adminstrator" on his laptop. If I log on to his machine using the local administrator account, I can access the control panel applets no probs... If he logs in locally to his laptop, he can access the control panel applets. I also checked the local policies on his machine - saw nothing there that would prevent his domain account access to the applets... Any ideas on how to maybe rectify this issue? Help!  - SBS Exchange 2000 not delivering anymail (internal or external) I have set up a new Exchange 2000 server to replace an aging machine, but since I didn't want any of the old troubles and stuff to be carreid across, I set up the new server basically identical to the old one. I only changed the Windows domain name to different one to avoid confusion. (I actually wanted to copy the files across, but had to resort to FTP to achieve this, since SBS doesn't allow to domains to co-exist). No mail is coming in and going out (I can see the queues) but users are not getting anything in their inboxes. There are three domains for which mail is accepted on the server and I cannot find any reason why this happens. Not even if I send a message to myself, do I get it back in my inbox. What do I do the troubleshoot this. Is there some form of message tracking like in 2003? All advice would be greatly appreciated.  - The IP was changed on our Hosted Website I use a company to host my website. Yesterday they called and said that the IP was changing. So I logged in to the the guys that are hosting our DNS and I changed the www record to the new IP. The website is working fine outside of the office but the website is not displaying inside on the office sbs 2000 or clients. I went into the DNS on the sbs and changed the www record to the new IP address and still no website. Any ideas would help.  - ISA question in regards to HTTP I have SBS 2003 and ISA 2004, I want to block users from downloading documents from the web like powerpoint files, movies etc etc etc I know it is http downloads and I know where the configure http is on the http allow rule in my rule base. I have setup the extension lists to block by extension etc which all works fine, my issue is when they are in hotmail or gmail or the like and click to download a file they can still download as the extension isn't a .wmv it's more like the below: - http://mail.google.com/mail/?view=att&disp=indzip&attid=0.1&th=1094b95997f06b28 Which doesn't block the file still comes down, I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the signatures or headers tabs in configure http on the rule but don't know enough about it and can't find a reliable resorce to explain what I need to do.  - Internet access issue - wierd one... We have a strange issue with a particular XP pro SP2 machine in our domain. If I log onto this machine as the local administrator, I can access the internet no problems. The user who sits at this machine was unable to access the internet until I gave her local admin privs on this machine - not even the power users group did the trick. Another user who sits at this machine in the evenings was also unable to access the internet using her domain logon. When I gave her domain account local admin rights on that machine (as I had done for the previous user I mentioned) I expected that would solve the problem. NOPE!! She still is unable to access the internet - simply gets a "page unable to be displayed" for any site she attempts to visit! I tried pinging some sites and that worked just fine so traffic is getting through - maybe port 80 is somehow being blocked? I turned off the firewall just in case - and that still did not fix the issue. The strange thing is that this user can log onto other machines and access the internet so it must be somehow related to something on that PC - I just do not know where to look next...  - XP home user unable to browse the domain using wireless... I have a user with an XP Home sp2 machine of his own he uses here at work. We have a domain here so this user needs to access domain resources. He has a built in wireless card in his Dell laptop. Using the wireless he gets no domain access at all - cannot even map a network drive even when supplying domain credentials. If he disables his wireless card and plugs in using an ethernet cable, everything works just fine. I have tried playing with some of the settings in his wireless card - I do not see anything different in there as compared to other wireless users. There is also a "1394 Connection" when you look at all his network connections - that is enabled. Could it be something to do with this and.. what is this anyway???? I tried turning off the firewall, nothing, turned on netbios etc... nothing... I am not sure if maybe this is just an issue with the builkt in wireless period and there is nothing I can do. I have not yet tried another wireless card - but that is next on teh list of to-do's!!! Has anyone ever seen this issue before and if so did you ever find a resolution?  - Prevent a user from move or delete on SBS 2000 Have a problem on our network. We have a server that has a bunch of shared drives, but lately someone is moving files around and deleting folders. They need to have full permissions to allow them to create, change the files, but should not be allowed to move the file from the directory or delete without permission.  - Remotely accessing a work computer from home... I have a client that uses an XP Pro machine at work. THis machine has a full time broadband connection via high speed (DSL) to the internet through Bell Sympatico here in Canada. This woman needs to be able to connect to this machine from her home PC periodically in the evenings to do some work on the accounting system. She to has an XPO machine with a full time high speed broadband connection using Bell Sympatico as well. I know I could set up remote assistance on this machine, but is there a better way I could have her connect to this machine to work on it using the broadband connection that is active? Could I use RDP somehow to connect? What IP would I use because her DSL modem has an IP assigned in the 192.168.xx.xx range and then dynamically assignes her own machine an address... So I would need to know what address to use to get to the external side of that actual DSL modem and then would ahve to direct traffic to the 192.168.xx.xx address of her computer!  - Small Business SMTP Connector I have changed the SMTP server that I am using to route mail externally. That is the only change that I have made, so I changed the name and then changed the user name and password needed to access this smtp that is provided by my isp. Now I cant seem to be be able to send mails through exchange. I have tested the SMTP server by setting up an account through Outlook and using the Pop3 as the account type. This works fine.  - Adding windows 2000 sbs license Hi, I'm trying to install additional licenses on our Windows 2000 SBS and when I run setup program from the license floppy disk I receive this error: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application"?!? The previous floppy with licenses was damaged and now this. Does anybody have any idea what is wrong? What errors are they getting when trying to login to OWA? Are they getting
promtped with a login box?

The user cannot login into OWA.
But when i remove the workstation limit they can then log in.

Strange but true.

Again, when they try to login into OWA through IE what error in IE are they
receiving? You should be getting back either Page not displayed or a 404
error, etc. The workstation restriction should not affect OWA login.
