Hello,
I am trying to upgrade the sbs policy to include the additional xp features
(using kb 307900).
However, the new values are not injected into the existing policies.

There is one exception to this: if I create a brand new policy on the server
and then open that policy on an xp pro machine (without opening it first on
the server), it updates perfectly. However, if i then attempt to open up the
policy on the server, all new settings are lost....

Can anyone shed any light on what is going wrong?

TIA
Stephen

Note the comment in the article that the Policy objects are only
upgraded when you actually drill down into the settings.

Windows 2000 Server cannot see or deal with the upgraded policy
elements. The KB article is quite clear that the upgraded policies
should only be edited from XP.

Steve,
Thank you so much for the reply.

I am now sat inside the Administrative Templates/Network settings (from
Windows XP). Is that what you mean by "Drill Down" into the settings?
The only items I see are "Offline Files" & "Network & Dialup Connections".
There is no sign of "DNS Client" etc..

I accept that the server cannot see the new policies, but are you saying
that if I open the policy (even by mistake) from the server, they will be
"downgraded" when I try to look at them again from my Windows XP
Workstation? That is what appears to be happening.

I _must_ be doing something daft...

Thanks again for you time,
Stephen

I'd have thought that was what they meant.

I'm afraid, daft as it sounds, that is pretty much what the article
implies.

Could be Microsoft instead... <eg>
