How do I uninstall Exchange 2000 from SBS 2000?

Hi Joshua,

Why would you want to do that? If you don't want to use Exchange (although I
can't find a valid reason for that), just disable the Exchange services.

I am upgrading my domain to Windows 2003. I do not use Exchange right now,
but have purchased Exchange Enterprise and W2k3 Enterprise. I want to
eliminate any occurance of Exchange 2000 in my Active Directory. In order
to do this I plan on doing the following:

a. Add new Windows 2000 Server to the domain.

b. Promote the Server from step "a" to new Windows 2000 Domain
Controller (With DNS) in the same domain.

c. Uninstall Exchange 2000 from SBS 2000 Server

d. Move GC+ FSMO functions from the original domain controller to
the new domain controller .

e. Demote the original SBS domain controller to be a member server.

f. Remove the member server (step "e") from the domain.

Please let me know if this is not the proper way!

At this point you should move all data to your New Server and
then completely shut down the SBS Server

You can't demote an SBS machine

Simply go in and remove any reference to the SBS server from AD.

I have reviewed the article
I am not familiar with Yuval Sinay MVP who is the author of this community
solution, but I can tell you that he is not a SBS MVP and based on every bit
of information that has been shared with SBS MVPs by the Microsoft SBS DEV
and Support Group, you cannot demote a SBS Server to a Member Server

I appreciate the response. What would your suggestions be? I have already

Help!

You will have to flatten the SBS server after finishing the migration. You
will have to use plain server media to install a new memberserver. You can't
use the SBS media for it.

How do I remove Exchange 2000 from the domain? I don't want any mailbox
information or Exchange information in Active Directory.

I already have the new Standard Windows 2000 Server up and running. How do
I get Exchange out?
