I have a new SBS2000 server (sbserver.mydomain.local),
using POP Mail Connector to get mail from ISP hosting
mydomain.com. POP Mail Connector only retrieves 20
mailboxes, ISP hosts 30 mailboxes, I have 10 users who
are off site and connect with the ISP's webmail directly.

SBS2000 users can't send mail to the 10 users who are
offsite through Outlook 2002 and the Exchange 2000
portion of SBS. The users get the following e-mail:

Subject: Undeliverable: Test

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended
recipients.

Subject: Test
Sent: 7/16/03 1:34 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'userX@mydomain.com' on 7/16/03 1:34 PM
The e-mail account does not exist at the
organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail
address, or contact the recipient directly to find out
the correct address.

<sbserver.mydomain.local #5.1.1>

Any thoughts on getting this to work without changing the
external users procedure for getting e-mail?

Thanks, I tried that and it didn't work. It seems like
it is not getting to the SMTP server to send out. Any
other suggestions?

This is easy to fix if those 10 users don't have accounts on the SBS box:

Right-click the virtual SMTP server->Properties->Messages tab, there put the
ISP's mail server under "Forward all mail with unresolved recipients to
host".

In any case... you should consider using SMTP to retrieve mail. IMHO, 20
users is a lot for the POP3 connector.

Go to your properties on your Smallbusiness SMTP Connector, and click on the
General tab. Which do you have enabled: "Use DNS.." or "Forward all mail
thru a smart host"?

If "Use DNS...", try enabling the smart host option and enter the SMTP
server name of your ISP or mail provider.
