I am trying to clean up some files on our HD and have run across some files
that were stored in old user profiles that I cannot delete. Some of these
files are in the "Temporary Internet Files" folders. I have no idea why I
would not be able to delete them. I can't even right click to get the
properties. It simply tells me 'Properties not available for this item." In
each case, the filenames are absolutely huge...

What is the best way to remove file like this?

Thanks,

Brad

Depends on the O/S.
Safe Mode / Command Line only and Delete *.* or RD the directory.

You might also need to take ownership of the files/directories before you do
that.

Thanks for that. We are using a win2K small business server and a win2K
member server. I've never booted either server into safe mode but am
assuming it can be done? Both have files I am unable to delete....

Thanks,

There should be no need to boot into safe mode...
Are we talking about roaming profile folders on the server, or regular
workstation profiles?
If the first, logged in as (an) Administrator, you can just take ownership
of the folders (as Javier pointed out above) if need be.
If the second - Have you tried deleting the profiles from (right-click) My
Computer>Properties>User Profiles ???

Actually these particular files are remnants in an old shared profile
directory that I am not using... SO, basically they are files just "out
there" on the drive that need deleted..

Thanks,

I see - probably quickest to just take ownership of the directory (replace
owner on subdirs) and do the delete. Just a handful of clicks...

Cheers,
Dave
