    - SMTP problems... We are having SMTP outgoing email problems as our ISP is on a Blackhole list with RBL or www.mail-abuse.org. People have said that we need to run our own mailserver.     - Mac on SBS I need to get a mac on our SBS NW temporarily, According a knowledge base article it says I need to add "services for macintosh", however if i try to add this it doesn't appear to be available (it isn't in the list).     - OWA slow Hi, when external users try to access OWA across the Internet via a VPN or directly into the server using http://server_ip/exchange they find while its quick to prompt for login credentials the actual page takes a while to load. On the internal network it works fine. Both sides of the connection are using ADSL. Is there something I need to twaek or configure?     - Cache Problem I have a new SBS2000 installation with 3 XP clients. On two of the clients Internet Explorer seems to stall after about a minute, sometimes longer. Up until this point new and cached pages will be displayed. After this point it appears that only pages in cache can be displayed. Nothing new is downloaded from the Internet. Only IE on the server and on one client can browse new content. SBS2000 was installed with all the default settings and each workstation is configured the same way. Any pointers would be appreciated.     - Items in Sent Items Folder May Show As Sent When the Items Were Not Delivered I have this problem as in the subject Client is using XP Pro and Outlook 2002. The server is a SBS 2000. the message is sent to an internal receipent (the sender and receipent is in the same domain) it has occurred only once so far.     - SBS 4.5 Router problems I have a network which used an ISDN dialup modem. I changed this to a router. I added Gateway to the TCP/IP setting on clients. Lo and behold some clients browse the Internet some dont (usual cant display page message) I have chage Internet setting not to use proxy server.     - Anti-Virus Question We are running Symantec's Corporate Edition on the SBS2000 and all clients, where updates and schedules are tweaked on the server and relayed to all clients. At the moment, two machines on our LAN do not have AV on them, as the users insist that AV slows down their machine...in fact, he showed me a program he ran on a large database file (GB's worth) and it took double the amount of time than it did with no AV running. Although we disabled the Heuristics in Symantec's BloodHound technology etc..., it still made a difference. I am concerned about these two machines running no AV. I want to install a "light" AV so at least I know that the machines are covered but will not interupt or slow down programs being run (data processing!). Can someone help me and tell me what is a good "light" AV product to buy that is easy on processing power. The machines in question are Windows2000, SP4 patched with all updates and Blaster.     - Public Folder has unvisible owner - no access for other users Hi, I'm having problems with my public folders. After a complete SBS 2000 re-install (we had a major server crash last week) I've restored all mailboxes and public folders. The mailbox restore went ok, but all public folders now seem to have owners that do not exist on this new system: instead of a real username, in Outlook it displays 'NT User:S-1-5-21-32906815...' as the folder contact. No matter what I try, I cannot get access to the folders. It appears as though the invisible users have access only. I want to remove these invisible users and replace them by either an administrative user or one of our 'power users', like they were in the past. I've tried replacing the permissions in the Exchange Server Manager, and have 'everyone' having 'all rights', as well in Public Folders as in the Public Folder Tree, but that does not seem to change anything. I've searched Google and this newsgroup and although this question has been asked, I could not find a suitable answer. Can you help?     - RAS No Domain Server could be found I have a new SBS 2000 server. The remote dial up clients could access the previous SBS 4.5 server. The remote system connects and is issued IP address and settings via DHCP correctly (DNS WINS mask). However, the whenever the user name, password and domain are issued the error "no domain server can be found" occurs. I can continue past this and ping the server. I can ping the Internet router (separate) and browse the Internet. The IP, WINS and DNS server addresses are correct. I can access the Exchange Server and send mail (Occasional retry required). If I use an invalid user name then I am advised of that. I have configured the hosts and lmhosts files on the clients with the SBS server IP and domain name details. This problem happens with Windows 98 SE clients and Windows XP Pro (SP1) clients. I have granted RRAS group policy access. I have configured other Windows 2000 SBS RAS servers before. (We have one in our office that I access regularly - I have tested remote client access to our office server without error). We have loaded Windows 2000 SP4. (had error before (SP3) and after) TCPIP only protocol at server or clients. Have released network card protocols on remote client pc network card. Running out of options - any suggestions?     - Client PCs lose their connection to the server Hi, I've been having problems with my SBS2000 setup since downloading Microsoft's upgrades relating to MsBlast. Every so often, my client PCs lose their connection to the server. In Explorer I get a red X across the drive so, for example, when I click on my K drive I get the message "K:\ drive is not accessible. The networkpath was not found". Clicking on the drive letters several times does not get back the connection so I don't think it's the time-out issue I've read about. It's not always every PC on the network that loses the connection but, more often than not, it is. The only way that I seem to be able to get around it is by rebooting all the machines, starting with the server. I haven't noticed that I am doing, or using, anything unusual in the sense that the only thing that has changed over the last few weeks is as a result of the Microsoft upgrade (coincidence?). I'm running SBS2000 with a maximum of four client PCs. The server has one NIC and has the ADSL modem attached. Three of the PCs run Windows 2000 and the fourth runs Windows 98.     - Backup Software Choice Hello I am going to be backing up our SBS server to a DAT or DLT. I am trying to decide on backup software at the best cost. Backupexec is a common one but comes with various add-ons for different functions. A bit complicated. The other I have looked at is Tapeware. They have a product called the Small Business Server Pack. It appears easier and cheaper. Questions. Does anybody have any preferences ? If so why. Is backup software bundled with backup devices these days ? Does the "full" backup / disaster recovery (as indicated with HP drives)....really work, and is it the software that does it ?     - Odd internet connectivity problem What is happening is periodically the internet will go down. The setup is a dual nic to a router as per Merv's excellent instructions. When we make some investigations here is what we find. 1. we can ping the external NIC. (192.168.16.2) 2. We cant ping the router (192.168.16.1) 3. We reboot the router and we have the same problem. 4. we Reboot the server and we can then ping the router and the internet starts to work.     - REQ: What am I doing wrong? I can't get deleted item retetion to work. Hey gang! I was wondering how to get the "Recover Deleted Items" function to work with Exchange 2000. I had it working previously with Exchange 5.5 and Outlook 2000, but when I did a fresh installation of SBS 2000, with Exchange 2000, it no longer functions. I believe I turned it on correctly. I have been experimenting with the SMTP filter that comes with SBS2000 but it is saying that because the SMTP server and ISA are on the same computer it is not going to work.     - Report generation problems Hi I am having problems generating regular reports from the ISAS. I follow all the steps in Mr Brelsford's book (re Naughty and Nice reports), and manage to create the report definition OK, but get a failure everytime when it comes to actually generating the report. Are there some other settings that have to be switched on before I can do this? I am sure I was able to do this before, but seem to have lost the ability now (and have no idea what has changed).     - Upgrade SBS 4.5 to SBS2000 on new hardware - Questions I've read the MS document on how to do this, as listed in many replies to this class of question. However, I don't see a method to do this whereby you do not need to remove/join domain on clients. My Client has 50 pcs, and I don't want to remove/join, as well as setup the users profiles on PCs. MY Client has software installed that requires special settings for the users. Creating a new Domain SID would mean that each user gets a new profile on their workstation. This would cause me to have to perform many steps on each PC after moving to SBS2000. I thought that perhaps the following would work: 1) Install Win2K Server as DC on existing domain. 2) Remove SBS 4.5 from network. 3) Install SBS2000 on Win2K server box to keep AD info. or 1) Remove SBS4.5 from network. 2) Install SBS2000 on new server. 3) Use AD Migration tool to migrate data from existing NT BDC.     - Active Directory...... When add the client computers to the domain, they're put into the default container 'computers' under Active Directory. At this point, I am able to install programs to the clients via the wizard. I then added another OU called computers under the My Business OU. This was so I can use Group Policy on the workstations. When I moved these computers to this OU, I am not able to push programs down to the client via the wizard. I get an error saying that the computer is not available on the network. Do I have to keep the computers accounts in the default container in AD and not move them to another OU in order be able to use the wizard to push programs to the clients? Is there something that i am missing or something that i can do in order to have group policy to work on these clients without going to the domain level of the AD?     - Upgrade from Win 98 client to XP PRO client for SBS2000 Can this be done seemlessly by preserving all the settings in Outlook and the fax client? Upgrade utility tells me Outlook won't migrate and has to be uninstalled ! @#$#@! What? Isn't there an easy migration path? Thought I would give it a try. Backed up Win 98 partition, Deleted Outlook and fax client. Ran into problems with Outlook on XP after upgrade and decided for now to restore my previous Win 98 partiton. To my surprise the fax SERVER disabled itself on the SBS2000 and is flagged red in the services. Attempted to restart the service on the server. WILL NOT START.     - Transfering SBS to new server I have an old server that is running SBS 2000 (It's actually an upgrade from SBS 4.5). I am going to buy a new server and want to use the same installation disks to set up the new server in the same way, with SBS 2000, having initially installed SBS 4.5 and upgraded to SBS 2000.     - VPN Clients Can't Access Network I have a SBS 2K server, all SP's installed. Now my VPN clients can't access the network, Exchange, etc. It worked untill the last couple of months. Apparently, one of the Microsoft updates "fixed it." Any ideas how to give network access back to VPN clients? They cannect and are registered, they just can't do anything once connected.     - HTTP 500 Internet Server error I very urgently need asnwer to this plzz z if anyone can help me out i will be more than greatfull to him/her. I have installed Win2K Server using the Win2k SBS CD ROM. Now the prob is I have installed IIS but when I try to run a .asp file from the browser it gives the error mentioned in the subject. This is a standalone machine with no network card. The settings that I have tried are 1. Properties of the default web site in IIS and the IP address option was unassigned. Then documents tab has indes.asp added in first place. Home dir is c:\inetpub\wwwroot (I have my asp files in there) then Execute permissions are scripts only. Thats all the info I tried running the file in browser this ways 1. http:\\127.0.0.1\index.asp 2. http:\\localhost\index.asp 3. http:\\personal\index.asp (where personal is my comp name).     - RPC Problem?! I had a nice running Small Business Server 2000 system. At=20 least till last Wednesday. The Problem: When I start the Server, I receive the message that=20 several services couln't be startet. So I go and see! DHCP=20 Server is not startet, DNS neither. There are to many=20 errormessages - so I can just add some. The point is that after starting the DHCP Service and the=20 DNS Service everything works fine!! But somehow they can't=20 start at the beginning!     - Trying to install SBS SP1 getting error I'm trying to install SBS SP1 and I'm getting this error "Service Pack 1 (SP1) Setup Requires 125 MB of disc space on the containing the ClientApps shared folder in order to deploy Windows 2000 service pack 4 to client computers. Delete unnecessary files to free up disc space, and then run SP set up again" I'm a little confused. My ClientApps shared folder is on a drive (D:\) that has 2.32 Gig Free. ClientApps is located at D:\ClntApps\ClientApps5 Is it possible that this is my problem (different name ClientApps5 not ClientApps). And if so can I just rename this file.     - trend virus question I have trend and it is working great (the old sbs version). It is catching the so_big virus and delteing the attachments. I am getting hundreds of these a day though and the clients are not happy. Is there a way to prevent anything from reaching the client computer?     - Computer not recognized on network.... I have my SBS2000 all set up. I have 3 workstations attached to the domain rihgt now. The only problem that i'm having is that when i'm in the Admin console, and I'm under 'computers', I can't add software to the computer that i'm highlighting.     - SCSI or IDE Hard Drive Replacement I posted a question earlier about upgrading the HD im my SBS 2000 machine. I was considering trying to ghost over the info from a SCSI drive to an IDE. After reviewing the responses I got the impression that even though IDE drives have come along way I should still stick with a scsi drive.     - What Virus pkg? After yesterdays debacle with the Nachi virus, my client is finally willing to spend a few buck on a virus pkg. Does anyone have advice on what's out there and what they cost? I don't want to just blindly buy from the big boys if there's something better that only pros know about. What about Sophos? I used their download to fix our problem and it worked well. On the cheap side, can you install homeowner type ($50) on just the server and not bother with the clients behind the server? Or do those cheap packages not install on Server OS?     - sbs 2000 domain joining across cisco vpn tunel Hi, I am working on joining remote xp clients to windows 2000 domain across vpn tunnel established between cisco routers. The main site where SBS 2000 is located has an ip scheme of 192.168.0.x and the remote site (only xp clients) has an ip 192.168.2.x. I can ping the server from the remote site and vice-versa. However, I am not able to join the domain or perform anything else except ping. SBS 2000 server has exchange 2000, dns,dhcp,wins and ISA running with firewall services disabled (functioning as web caching engine only). Client are mostly xp machines. XP clients located at main site have no issue in logging or joining win2k domain. Only clients at remote site are experiencing this problem. Both sites have dsl and static ip. Cisco claims that there is nothing wrong with the tunnel or routers config (1700 with vpn pack and 800 models). This error is recevied when trying to join remote site clients to domain: The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain boyertwnymca.local: The error was: "DNS name does not exist." (error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR) The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.boyertwnymca.local Common causes of this error include the following: - The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS. - One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone: boyertwnymca.local local . Our SBS 2000 server was down for 2 days due to a crash caused by a =
virus. It has been brought back to life and cleaned of viruses.=20

The issue now is that I try to connect via Terminal Services, I receive =
this message:
"Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconncted. Please =
try to reconnect."

All services are running. I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting =
this. Do I need to run the ICW again? Is there a problem with the ISA =
server configuration?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
