    - Memory and Process Question. Sql Server is a process but I did not install. Hello all, A memory quandry I am in. Not sure if quandry is the right word. SBS2000, SP1. I received some errors in my health monitor, memory errors to be precise. I looked at my processes and noticed sqlservr.exe in my list of processes. I found this odd since I did not load SQL Server on this Server. Do other programs that I am using use sqlservr.exe? Using Symantec Corp Edition 8.1 and BackupExec 9.0. Have lots of RAM in this server, 1.5 gig to be precise. Errors include: Pages input/sec >5, Pages Reads/sec >5, Page Input/sec >5, Pages/sec >80, and they started when I ran last night's backup. Mem Usage on sqlservr.exe is about 50,000K. Is there a list somehwere of what services should not be running or are running and taking memory. Is there a way to simplify?     - Tip on using Snagit Well, my sp4 and other patches went ok tonight, so I have some time on my hands... (hopefully someone out there doesn't know this tip already) If you need to remember those darn screens, error messages, file lists, etc. as they flash buy - consider using that great product Snagit (no, I don't have shares in the company). You can - take a screenshot of a region or the entire screen/window. - automatically print it or send it to a file -or better still, to a catalog folder which is then fully browsable within the app (great for looking through your last 20 moves e.g. when setting up a biggie program such as BackupExec and - if you set it to 'Text Capture' mode, you can 'capture' a horribly long text string on screen and immediately convert it to editable text and store it in the Clipboard, so you can just paste it into e.g. your computer history databse. www.snagit.com (no, I REALLY don't have shares in this company, but I really love their very reasoanably priced product).     - Enterprise and SBS I have read that to migrate from Exchange 200 standard to Enterprise, you simply need to install Enterprise over the top of the standard edition, and then re-install service packs to the same level. I need to know if it's fine to do that on an SBS server. I'm sure you need to purchase CAL's because of the different licensing method on SBS, but is that the only other concern? (ie. Other than installing some Exchange CAL's, is the process exactly the same for SBS as say for a Windows 2000 server running Exchange 2000 standard?)     - File server & CAL's Ok, The following mistake was made due to partially poor planning and necessity. We required a replacement file server for our existing SBServer. What we originally planned was to install SBS on the new system and then migrate everything to it and then use it as our primary (retiring the old SBS). Well as you can imagine there were problems. I had not realized was that two SBServers could not exist on the same network, this has caused us considerable pain. The server will allow itself to exist but it can not be promoted to a secondary it can also not apparently allow more than 10 users to connect to it, this presents a major issue as we do have more than 10 people at any one time will need to connected to it. We have the correct number of CAL's for the existing SBS, but the new fileserver will not allow more than 10 to connect to it (It will also not allow us to add licenses as it is not a full-fledged SBS yet). I did find this article (305138) on the knowledge base but it applies to SP2, and not SP4 so I am unable to apply the hot fix. (Which I assume has been built into SP3/4 anyway) Suggestions?     - Finding Domain Controller I have a freshly set up sbs that I am still working the kinks out of. I keep having DC problems. In the event viewer of my xp clients its saying Could Not Find Domain Controller or Domain Controller Doesn't Exist. I have enabled netbios over tcp/ip and that didn't help. The strange thing is I am able to get to mapped drives, email, printers, etc but sometimes it prompts me for a username and password after I have logged in.     - Using SBS2K as an Email Host OK. I know how good all of you are on here, so here is the scenario. The agency I have just started with use to run a P2P networked which I have upgraded to SBS2K. Their email provider is based in CA (we are in FL) and continually go down. As of now, we use them as the POP3 and the local ISP as the SMTP. I would like to bring everything in-house and use the SBS as the email host for POP and SMTP and get rid of the internet mail side. Not being a "classically trainined" computer person (my masters is in Public Admin) I have an idea of how to do this but nothing clear in my head, and I don't want to lose it. Is it a matter of changing the Server to an SMTP type and bringing everyhitng in house that way? Guidabce would be appreictaed? TIA John C.     - Computer lockups Sorry for repost but still dont know what the deal is Still having problems , help. The past couple of days I am having a couple of xp and 2000 computers are experencing pauses during working. All these computers are CAD machies and during the course of the day while working in acad(as this is the most used program on the computer) they will be working and the cursor will lock up for 5-20 sec and then unfreeze, doing this at random throughtout the day. All computers are updated completely. It started doing this about two weeks ago before that everything worked smoothly. Also am not getting any relative event logs.     - ISA server I have a client running SBS2k and ISA with two NICs in the server. The ISA work fine for everyone except for 1 or two sites. I have one user that must access a site and it fails throught the proxy server. What do I need to do to let this user have direct Internet access? Currently, if I turn off proxy and just point him to the internal address of the SBS system as default gateway, it doesn't work. I just want this one user to be able to bypass the ISA server.     - NNTP Newsfeed I have set up a peer newsfeed via Exchange system manager on SBS, and I actually tested it with this newsgroup. I input all details and in my public folder structure, Internet Newsgroups appears once the feed has been activated. It drills down the tree to the correct newsgroup but there is nothing in there and I get an ndr report in my inbox if I try and post anything to it. The only advice I've received so far was to throttle back the NIC in the PC to 100Mbs Half Duplex rather than auto detect, but this made no difference.     - how secure is my ip setup for internet connection currently I have the following setup in place: sbserver with 1 internal nic and 1 external nic. netgear dg814 ADSL router connected to server only via external nic. internal ip range: 192.168.16.xx server: 192.168.16.2 external nic: static internet ip xxx.xxx.xxx.70(assigned by isp) router: static internet ip xxx.xxx.xxx.69(assigned by isp) Under the internet connection wizard I have allowed isa packet filtering allowing access to: mail server web server web based mail server pop3 ftp SB server box is only server in office and is the file and mail server and therefore contains all critical information for business. everything is working well including internet sharing via proxy server and outlook web access, but I am concerned that the server is open to internet security threats. I have only the standard ISA filters inplace that the internet connection wizard sets up by default. Any advice as to the security of this setup would be greatly apreciated.     - email stuck in queue between exchange 2000 servers We have an (apparently) working exchange 2000 server to replace our SBS. We can move email accounts from the SBS to the new server with AD users & computers. However test email sent from an account on the new server to an account on the SBS just sit in queue on the SBS, with a bounce message.     - Imaging SBS onto removable storage I was thinking about imaging an sbs server C: drive onto a DVD disk using ghost of something similar. I thought it would have be good to use something like an external DVD writer as I could use the same device on a number of sites and the only cost per site would be one DVD disk. The device I originally had in mind was an HP external DVD writer that connects via USB 2 or IEEE1394 - but then it occurred to me that to take the image I must be in DOS and USB, etc would not be available.     - Exchange Drive Size Problems Currently we have a partition on the server that houses out exchange server. This drive is 15gig in size. However I am now finding that after a weeks worth of logs the drive is filled up and exhange shuts down. I m wondering what is the easiest way to decrease the size of the exchange server folder? The backup is exhange aware so the logs are getting flushed. But there are only about 500 meg so it realy does not provide that much space to provide any sort of cushion. How can I solve this.     - SP4 and VPN broken Hello, Fresh install of SBS2K and SBS SP1. Problem: When VPN is established from outside the network, I am unable to view computers in the SBS network or any of it's resources..... but the VPN connection is established.     - Cal license floppy does not work with LS-120 drive When I try and add a 5 clent license pack for SBS 2000 I run it from the floppy as required but after the I agree screen I get a message stating that the driver is either write protected or damaged (of which it is neither) and that this disk cannot be used on a ls-120 drive. This is the second sdisk I have tried does anyone know how to get around this problem? Any help would be great. How can I prevent client workstations connecting to SBS from running certain programs on them, the workstations are XP professional. The problem is that I know what=20 my boss's reaction will be when I tell him the cost of a=20 DLT drive (=A3900 or more), it'll be short, rude, and=20 hazardous to my health. Public external DNS servers host my www record that point to my external web host's site and a MX record that points to my SBS Exchange server. My users tell me that certain people from certain domains can't send them emails successfully. How do my DNS records and zones need to be configured to allow external email servers to find and resolve my mail server? Currently I have a forward lookup zone, workgroup.domain.local that has the SOA and host records for that zone. There is also a reverse lookup zone for my subnet.     - DCOM and EventID 10009 I've recently replaced a server and I'm now seeing complaints from a DCOM process claiming that it cannot contact the old server using any configured protocols and logging event ID 10009. This is being logged on the internal SBS server (not the replacement machine). Source is DCOM, category None, Event ID 10009, User is NT Authority\System, message cut-n-pasted below; DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer anubis using any of the configured protocols. I've had a go at finding and fixing this in the past which ultimately proved unsuccessful, but did eliminate a few lurking references to the old server name. These events are occuring once per minute for serveral hours and then stop for an seeminly abitrary period of time and then start again. (Of course they usually stop a few minutes after I get a fraction of time to look at the problem). I used filemon from sysinternals, and the process that *appears* to be related is emsmta.exe, access to emsmta is bracketting the entry that looks to be writing the event log. So Exchange is my most likely culprit, I've trawled through all the configuration/property panels that I can think of and can find no explicit reference to the old server name. It's causing any operational issues (that I know of) but it is filling the system event log and hence making spot real problems difficult. again....Try again and same error....

Anyone else had this ?

You may try reboot the workstation or try to connect from another XP. This
can isolate whether the problem is that particualr XP or the server itself.

Thanks Ray..sorry should have included this info...

1. Initial problem was on clients remote site, my engineers contacted me and
I tried from my PC (XP also) and same problem...looks like is server only
terminal services though as VPN works fine.
