I have an SBS 2000 server at the home office, a 2000 member server at the
branch office, the branch office has about 4 PCs, and when I try to join the
PCs to the domain, I get the following message: "The specified server cannot
perform the requested action".
What is mystifying is that one of the PCs a laptop has already been joined,
and works ok with no problems.
Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks
Don
PS - I originally posted this under the sbs2003, and I am now correcting my
ways.

What is the IP Configuration of the Branch Office computers? THe DNS Server
for these clients must be the SBS 2000 Server for them to successfully join
the domain. I also assume that the Cisco VPN is a dedicated VPN connection
with Pix or Router?

That is correct. The workstations are pointing to the sbs2000 server for its
DNS server. The VPN is created using Cisco Pix 501's on each end.
In the event logs, there is a consistent message relating to out of
licenses. Can this prevent new PCs from joining the domain?

Thanks

It should not cause this issue. I would check to insure that the 4
computers are not running any type of firewall client, say Symantec or
Trend. Symantec now includes the firewall app within the AV Client. The
Pix 501 configuration is a good vpn solution which I run at many SBS client
sites. I would insure DNS resolution is happening and RPC traffic is
passing through the tunnel. Can you browse from Network Neighborhood on
laptop computer and see the entire domain?

I will go over to the branch office and see. The user of the laptop reports
no problems what so ever. I will also double check each PC for any kind of
firewall that could be defeating the join.
Thanks
