Hello,

I've been using OfficeScan SBS since SBS 4.5

Now i am trying to understand if the InterScan Suite

http://www.trendmicro.com/en/products/gateway/iwss/evaluate/overview.htm

is a better product than Client/Server/ Messaging Suite for SMB

http://www.trendmicro.com/en/products/suites/csm-smb-suite/evaluate/overview.htm

Interscan doesn't use ScanMail and yet scans emails for viruses?

What are the reasons to choose one suite over another and why? I also see
the NeatSuite product.

What is the best choice?

Thank you

Hi!

I don't have much experience with Interscan... but the way I see Interscan
can complement CSM, but not replace it. What a interscan does is simply sees
web traffic and scans it for virus. A quick glance shows that it only works
with 2 protocols HTTP and FTP. You can't rely on this for AV alone.

From the top of my head I can think of a couple of cases where Interscan
would not work (but CSM would):
-The user carries a CD/Floppy/USB device with a virus-infected file
-Mail with viruses (I didn't see SMTP or POP3 scanned)
-Somebody brings a virus-infected laptop to the network
-Sombody uses RWW/OWA/Terminal server from an external source and transfers
a virus-infected file.
-Probably more...

CSM is the way to go... personally I would not buy Interscan, but if you
have the money and the willingness to spend it: go ahead! :-)

Hello,

I am a heavy user of interscan and the new IMSS.

It is a great product. Javier is correct. It compliments Scanmail etc.
This is why Trend Micro make Neatsuite+ which has all these great
components.

Interscan is border/gateway protection for email. It scans emails before
it hits the mail store and scans emails leaving the site, out to the
world.

Scanmail has a schedule and roams around the existing mail store looking
for viruses.

they compliment each other but do different things.

Is it still the case that Trend recommend the Interscan portion not be
installed on the same SBS box as the Officescan/Scanmail portion?

Regards,

David

I believe so - check their support site. I wouldn't do it even if I could.
