I am looking for some feedback from current users of Trend Micro
Client/Server/Messaging Suite.

I am considering their Client/Server/Messaging Suite - 10 users package as
an anti-virus solution for a Microsoft Small Business Server 2000. I want to
be sure I fully understand the licensing before I purchase the product. On
my Exchange server I have about 15 mailboxes configured. However, I only
have 9 workstations. If I purchase the 10 user package, will this protect
only 10 of my Exchange mailboxes or all 15? In other words, is the license
count based on Exchange mailboxes, or client workstations?

If the license count is based on workstations, would I be sacrificing any
protection by purchasing a 5 user license to protect my server and
installing a much cheaper client package like Norton antivirus on each
workstation?

The other question I have is in regards to product and virus pattern
updates. From what I have found I have a 1 year subscription to download all
updates. After the first year is over, what is the annual cost to continue
to downloading virus patterns? I would hope I don't have to invest $600
each year for the latest virus patterns.

Thanks for your input!
Don

Would have to check about the licensing but Trend's ongoing maintenance
licensing is 30% per year thereafter.

The licensing is per workstation. I wouldn't recommend buying a 5-user Trend
and using Norton AV on the workstations... apart from possibly being a
breach of licensing... it would be impractical. You might want to consider
cheaper AV programs like AVG (and others).

We just got some updated pricing [from E92 plus here in the UK] as part of
an overall server update we're carrying out shortly.

C/S/M for 10 users is £397.40 + £18.00 for the media RRP - therefore about
£41.50 a user to buy
Ongoing maintenance at 30% will be about £119.22 or just short of £12 per
user per year thereafter

That's pretty good when you consider its a multiple-tier anti-virus defence
that is centrally managed [and in our own experience damned good]. Price is
comparable [kind of] to standalone desktop packages but overall package is
obviously greater.

I don't think the Trend pricing is at all out of the ballpark at these rates
but each to their own... :-)

Cheers,

David
