What would happen if I install Windows 2000 Server over my SBS 2000 Server?
Would everything still function (Exchange, SQL, IIS) Would my data and
programs be ok. My SBS2000 won't let me put SP4 on and I can't get updates
from Web. Any help will be appreciated....

Bob, I hope you're kidding, or asking out of frustration. Of course you
CANNOT install W2K Server over an existing SBS 2000 server and expect to
keep everything.

So, let's back up -- and tell us what you and what error message(s) you are
getting when you try to install SP4. And please explain that you can't get
updates from the web.

When I try to load SP4 from a CD it hangs and hangs, it says it is
inspecting, but it never returns. When I try to do a Windows update it goes
to the site and hangs there. I inherited this server from a previos IT
person who couldn't figure it out. Ultimately I am going to install SBS
2003 on a new server box, but I would like to migrate the old data.....

How many users are involved?
Jeff's SBSMigration that Frank mentions is great, especially if you want to
avoid having to visit every computer and make changes to every computer. It
allows you to build and test your new sBS2003 server offline, without
affecting anyone else. Then, when you are ready to cutover, you simply need
to move over your data files. Best thing is that the user's simply turn on
their workstations and never know that anything has changed.

Otherweise, you can simply build your SBS2003 server from scratch, recreate
manually all your user and computer accounts, and shared folders and
printers. Then you would need to rejoin each user's workstation to the new
server, which will require copying each user's custom settings (desktop,
cookies, favorites). This is fine if you have a hanfdul of users.
