 - ton of undeliverable emails Hi, Every day there are a few hundred undeliverable emails in the adminstrator inbox for users who do not exist in our domain. I have always figured these were just failed attempts by spammers fishing for valid email addresses. For example, we'll have emails to mark@ourdomain.com joe@ourdomain.com horsby@ourdomain.com Some of the names are pretty crazy. Anyway, these email addresses don't exist so they go to the admin box as undeliverable. Should I be concerned or is it just really failed attempts by spammers. Do other have this problem?  - Connecting From Hotel I had a laptop configured to use VPN and then connect to my company's system. It works just fine using a modem connection but it can be quite slow...so had a user connect to their hotel room broadband service...got fast net access but not able to get to the citrix session again or login to any secure webpages. I brought the laptop home from Europe and hooked it up to my DSL connection. Everything worked fine. My tech people blame the Hyatt Hotel in London, and the hotel people blame my people.  - Email Error company.local I have sbs2000 installed. Domian name is company.local users are: sandy matt etc. My email client outlook 2003 has to email accounts one pop3 account and 1 exchange account. When i try to send an email to Matt using the global address book I get an errorr sending the email stating something like "user could not be found?".  - Event Viewer logs empty Sorry if this seems really simple, but I'm trying to find an answer to this and I keep coming up dry... When I go into event viewer in SBS 2000 I notice that the "security" and "frs" logs are empty.  - Cannot send console messages to SP2 XP PCs SP2 update changed something in regards to the pc receiving a console message. After upgrading some XP Pro PCs to SP2, these pcs cannot receive console messages anymore from a Small Business Server 2000. The firewall is OFF on the XP SP2 PCs. The only changes to these PCs have been the SP2 upgrade and subsequent patches from Windows Update. The Alerter and Messenger services are Automatic and are On on the SP2 PCs. The message from the server is "Not all recipients received the message. This could be due to an invalid computer name, or because the recipient computer is unavailable. Check each recipient computer name and then re-send." What am I missing? SP1 PCS are still receiving console messages.  - removing exchange Hi ! We have a sbs2000 server with windows sp4 and exchange sp1 and I can not install any service pack to exchange. currently exchange says Build 4629.1:service pack 1.  - Workstation User requires SBS credentials to access Internet? My regrets if this has been covered recently...tough topic to search on. We have a SBS 2k acting as our file and email server as well as the PDC on the LAN. We haven't (intentially) implemented ISA or any other web server stuff on the thing. It is not pointed to as a gateway by the workstations...it just sits there behind the router/firewall like all the workstations (which point at the Router IP as the gateway). Of course, server console access to the Internet works fine. Question is: Why should a workstation local User who doesn't have a Domain account (the WS does, but not the User) who is logged in to the WS (not the domain) have to present domain credentials to use IE to access websites on the Internet (WS is XP pro, SP1)?  - Internet connection goes down, network runs slow, how to fix? Hello All, SBS 2000, 2NICs. We are currently having problems with our ADSL connection, the router connected to the external NIC has an intermittent fault. When the internet connection is not working users are experiencing long delays in being able to log on to the network from their workstations and opening Outlook. I'm pretty sure this shouldn't be happening! I have re-run the ICW and the internal network is defintely bound to the internal NIC. What other steps can I take to troubleshoot this issue? Where else does the internal network "rely" on the external one? What settings should I be checking?  - login script not running... In our user "profile" AD settings I am running a login script for all users. When they logon to the domain using a terminal services session, this is not being run. Why would that be? Where would I place a script so that it will run anytime a user logs into the domain - regardless of whether or not it is a terminal server session they are running?  - dhcp server While working on another problem, I was checking system logs and discovered a large number of warnings with the error "DHCP server warning event ID 1020. Scope 192.168.16.0 is 100 percent full with 0 IP addresses remaining." We're running SBS2K with double nics. I went into the DHCP server and the scope reads scope[192.168.16.0] The address range is from 192.168.16.1 to .255 and the reserved range runs from ... 16.1 to ...16.9. When I check the stats, it indicates 245 addresses in use. I think there is a problem here but I'm not sure what it is. I'm sure we shouldn't get warnings in event logs but I don't know where to go next to correct it. We recently moved from a dynamic to static IP.  - DHCP Server I know this is similar to a few other posts, but I think I have a different problem. My DHCP server has started shutting down. When I check the event log the error says "Encountered another DHCP server with IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx". xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the gateway address for the cable company's DHCP addresses, the only thing is I have a static address from them, and am fully configured for static only. There are no other devices on the network that could even hand out an IP. The cable company says everything looks fine. this had been working fine until last week and then started acting up.  - Fax Running SBS 2000 and had Shared Fax setup to route to e-mail. New Tape Drive was replaced in a Dell PowerEdge 2600 and did a Firmware update. Now I can not get faxes to route to e-mail. I have checked the settings to make sure that the correct e-mail address is in the properties and it was. Has anyone had this type of situation and if so what did you do to correct this?  - Laptops and Internet access OK... I'm running SBS 2000. I have the Firewall Client installed on all my computers. Also, IE is configured to use a proxy server (ISA Server). Everything works great. However, how are laptops supposed to access the Internet when the users are not in the office? Right now, I've told laptops users to disable the Firewall Client and go into IE and select Tools, Internet Options, Connections Tab, LAN Settings, un-check Proxy Server and click OK. Then exit IE and restart it. Upon return to the office, set everything back. Please tell me I'm doing it the hard way! This can't be the best practice. First of all, consider who has laptops: sales people and upper management. At my company, this group of people is barely capable of operating cell phones. It's so funny watching their faces when I tell them to right click the Firewall client and explain to them that when it says "enable" it means the Firewall client is disabled. Uhh??? What???  - Add user wizard not creating mailbox Hi all I have an SBS2000 box that seems to be having a problem with the add user wizard. I have rerun the SBS part of the set up to try and fix this but to no avail. The wizard runs through all the steps then when you get to the finish button you click finish and the wizard just dissapears doesnt run. it creates the user but no mail box or email addresses for the user and yes the create mailbox is ticked on the wizard.  - XP SP2 on SBS2000 Clients Hi all, Has anyone experienced this problem and how do I disable or fix it? Ever since SP2 was installed on certain XP Pro workstations in one of my clients SBS2000 network, employees can no longer download necessary files from client banks that provide a [DOWNLOAD] button that is received as part of an e-mail in employees's outlook. I have tried adding the bank site to trusted sites but that doesn't work. When they click on the [DOWNLOAD] button in the e-mail they receive, a error message tells them that the security settings do not allow this action instead of beginning the download.  - Trend cgi browser hijack I have a client with a workstation that looks like IE has been hijacked. Any url you enter gets replaced with: http://[url]/officescan/cgi/cgiChkMasterPwd.exe Trend has a fix for OfficeScan at http://kb.trendmicro.com/solutions/search/main/search/solutionDetail.asp?solutionID=13353 but I need a fix for IE on this system.  - windows xp pro userenv problem I have three windows xp pro client machines on my sbs 2000 network. two of the machines are dells and one is home built. i only have this problem with the xp machines and not with the clients that are windows 2000 pro or the single windows me machine that is on the network. here is the problem(s) 1. it takes these machines (xp's) as long as 10 minutes to log onto the network. 2. after a period of time @ 30 minutes if not active on the network the machines seem to "loose" connectivity to all the network resorces including mapped drives and shares. after a fresh log on they work fine for a while then they just seem to loose thier connection. all local programs and applications seem to work fine and outlook stays connected and recieves emails constantly, but unused or non active connections or shares are lost. on all three of these machines i seem to be getting the same three event log reports shown below. i have looked at the windows xp pro newsgroup but don't see any reports like this. the event logs make me thing maybe i have an issue with the sbs2000 server. any one have any ideas?  - How do I allow clients with Remote Desktop inside ISA to access external server? URGENT, please help All the info I can find on this is about how to access a network or desktop FROM outside by publishing a terminalservices server, I need to configure ISA to allow internal clients using XP's Remote Desktop to see an outside resource on a remote server over the web via the ISA server. So, XP PC via Remote Desktop to SBS2000 with ISA 2000 to web to external server with terminal services running. I have tried everything to try to get access out thru ISA, but just get error "cant connect". It is allowed through the firewall at the other end, if I http://ipaddress to it they can see the correct IP trying to get in. I have tried adding protocol definitions for 3398 via tcp and udp, in and out, I have added a destination set for the server at the other end I have added Server Publishing Rules for tcp/udp 3398# I have added IP packet filters for 3398 tcp/udp in/out I have added protocol rules for all the protocol definitiopns to do with RDP on 3398 In fact I have added allow all to everywhere to everyone which should allow EVERYTHING, but to no avail Please help, the quicker the better please because this has been dumped on me at the last minute and needs to work ASAP!!  - Pop3 delivery failure I am running Small Business Server 2000. I use Pop3 connector to retrieve mails from outside ISP pop3 mailbox and then deliver to internal users' mailbox. It was working fine until suddenly Exchange failed to deliver outside mails to users (it does successfully retrieve mails from outside mailboxes, but users did not receive them). From every PC we create an ODBC System DSN, the Server drop-down lists both unique servers. However, we have a machine that lists a duplicate.  - DHCP problem I have a new build of SBS2003 with all the relavent services installed (RIS, DHCP, TFTP etc.) A workstation that is a member of a separate workgroup can get an IP address from the DHCP server with no problem when booting into windows normally. If I load into the PXE boot system however it is unable to get an address with "unable to connect to DHCP server". This is using either the hardware LAN manager or the RISBUILD floppy and I have tried it on two different computers with the same result.  - Virus infected email from internal user Occasionally we are receiving emails that appear to come from one email user to another. However, I have anti- virus on our email server and on clients. It is detected when the recipient receives the email, so I know the other internal user is not sending the infected email. After looking at the virus infected email, going to <View> <Options>. It appears that they are comingn from another server and it lists the IP address. It is received by our email server and delivered. The domains sending the virus are lily.com, lily.org, lily.net, pavilion.org, and bosslady.com. How can I disallow these emails from being delivered in Exchange? Is it possible? Also we've received emails from a domain name that is the same as ours, but with a different IP. What is up with that? Any repsonses would be much appreciated.  - Modifying user profile settings... We have a strange situation where occasionally a user logs in using a terminal services session and see's multiple copies of the Quick Launch toolbar. They then have to go in and uncheck one of the Quick Launch instances... I do not understand why this is happening but it is annoying for the users. Where exactly are tool bar settings stored?  - Email Flood Since early hours of Oct 31, our mail server is experiencing mail flood from a variety of IP addresses spread throughout the world. The mails are coming to anyname@ourdomain.com. Thus our server is receiving them as domain name is valid. However they are building up in the queue for directory lookup as the names are invalid. Yesterday, we received about 3500 emails per hour.  - CPU 100% after HP driver upgrade The Windows Update site recommende updating some of the HP2300 drivers. I did this and all pritning stopped. I could not seem to remove this update. I did try restarting the print spooler and then the machine. Finally I blew away all the HP2300, HP2300N, HP1300N, HP1300 and HP1200 and loaded up with a PCL5 drvier.  - Rolling out DSN We have a SBS2000 Network with around 40 clients running 70% Windows 2000 Pro and 30% running Windows XP Pro. In HKEY/LOCAL MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ODBC/ODBC.ini (or in Control Panel DSN (System DSN)) we have some custom DSNs which we wish to roll out to all the machines on the domain. How do we do this? However, when i log onto a workstation connected to the domain the time
changes to a different time.

Have set the user rights to administrator and changed the time that way, but
within 5 minutes it changes back.

Any ideas?

Can you check your time zone? If the time zone on the server is not the same
on the workstations it would look like the time is wrong.
