 - Remote access SQL database on SBS2000 server I have a SBS2000 server running ISA Firewall with 2 nics (lan and wan). How do I configure SQL and ISA to allow the SQL database to be accessible on the WAN side (i.e. to be accessible via the internet) of my dual nic SBS2000 server? How do I minimize the security risks?  - Server Hung We had to reboot our SBS2003 server this morning and it came up with a screen that says 'Rebuilding Active Directory Indices'. It's been running for over four hours now.  - OWA info for setting up on SBS 2003 Can someone direct me on what is the best setup for OWA on SBS 2003. I have a small site, 5 users, which I plan on putting a Cisco 501 up on a DSL connection.  - Mail Stuck in InForward Folder with POP3 Connector HELP!!! I have SBS2000 configured and working for about 2 years now, downloading using the POP3 Connector with a Global account, and mail distributed to four internal exchange users. On the 5th of Oct, mail stopped flowing. After investigation and Microsoft KB324236, I found out that the mail is stuck in the Inforward folder. It is downloading properly from the ISP, but than it does not get routed, it just stays in the folder. I followed the instructions in the KB, moving the messages out, etc., but in the end, all that happens is new mail keeps going into the folder without getting routed either. I reran the ICW to see if that helped, but to no avail either. I am not sure what else to try? I am close to purchasing the SBS2003 upgrade and performing an inplace upgrade to see if that fixes it. (I'm assuming that's painless, but I'm sure a whole other thread). If anybody can point me in the next troubleshooting direction, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure what else to try.  - Auditing Problems Hi all, I enabled auditing on a windows 2000 SS using the default domain policy. I am only getting a few login/logoffs in the security log, and nothing since 10/13. If I log in remotely I don't even see my account. Any suggestions? The client wants to have a record of any users that are coming in over the weekend.  - SBS2003 Copying Contacts from GAL I have approx. 15 computers on a network w/ one SBS2003 server and can copy contacts from the GAL into each users' Outlook 2003 contacts folder except for one user. I get an error that says "Some names could not be added to contacts. The action could not be completed."  - SBS2003 Remote Access I'm gettingready to get remote Access set up for our new server ... are there any good, user-friendly whitepapers/technical documents that I can look at to make sure I do everything I need to do .. I poked around TechNet and couldn't make what I want come up, since I'm looking for a few specific things. We want to have the remote e-mail access and server access for those who need it, but we'd also like to set up a way to have remote file access, so that people can get documents and such off the server itself, just as if they were sitting at their desks.  - license problems We have a SBS 2003 server with 45 per server licenses. We also are trying to configure a Windows NT 4 server to be a file server.  - SBS 2K shared fax service stopping After a re-boot yesterday our shared fax service keeps stopping of its own accord even after I have re-started the server and manually re-started the service. It also looses the tick against receive faxes and also does not route the incoming faxes to a fax folder as it is setup to do.  - Recovering Mail from BSOD Machine (Safe Mode works fine) The situation: I have a PC with Windows Small Business Server 2000 on it which has decided that it doesn't want to boot up in normal mode now (safe mode works fine). The error I get during bootup is a BSOD which I've looked into and primarily points towards hardware failure but some things I read didn't discount the possibility of corrupt drivers and other software issues. I have accepted that this machine has questionable components and was in need of upgrading anyway, so I have set about building and installing a new Windows SBS 2000 server which is well underway. My question is this: How can I get all the Exchange email and public folder information from the older server to the new one? I have tried running ExMegre (which I have a bit of experience of) on the old server whist in safe mode, but it doesn't work. IIRC, the time I had success with ExMerge, the server was able to boot in normal mode, meaning that the exchange services were all running and the two stores were mounted.  - PAT / NAT with ISA? Due to limitations with my Open Networks 501R ADSL Router, I require ISA on SBS2K to do Port Address Translation. The 501R does PAT for incoming SMTP, POP3, RDP - but will only allow for the port number to be assigned once - even if you are using multiple external addresses. I have additional public IP's in the 501R NAT global pool which need access to an internal Terminal Server. As I need remote RDP access to both internal servers, I require ISA to listen for RDP connections using the standard port (3389) and as well as a different TCP port. Then using ISA server publishing, I would then route this connection to the internal terminal server which uses the default TCP port number 3389. i.e. [the 192.x is considered ext int on SBS][the 10.x is the int network] 165.x.x.x:3389 > 192.168.10.2:3389 >10.4.2.1:3389 203.52.x.x.x:3389 > 192.168.10.3:3390 > 10.4.2 Small Business Server 2000 w/ ISA, Exchange. Windows 2000 Server w/ Terminal Services. Public IP address 1 is NAT'd to Internal IP.[This Works!] Public IP address 2 is NAT'd to internal IP using different TCP port on ISA.???? This emulates the "drag-and-drop" behavior that can be used to create a malicious file on the client system. This vulnerability is being actively exploited in the wild. (e) IE's Active SetUp technology is designed to improve the process of installing software updates. This technology helps speed up the installation process by downloading only the files that are necessary. The Install Engine ActiveX control(inseng.dll), which is part of the Active SetUp technology, contains a buffer overflow. The flaw can be exploited to execute arbitrary code on a client system. The discoverers of the flaw will release the technical details in January 2005. Status: Apply the patch referenced in the MS04-038 advisory. The patch also fixes other information disclosure vulnerabilities. Council Site Actions: All but one of the reporting council sites are responding to this vulnerability. Most plan to deploy the patches on an accelerated basis. One site said the majority of their systems have already obtained the patches through the public Windows Update site. There is one site that is having some challenges with deploying the patches. They have an internal software development group that has refused to QA the patches against their web-based applications and upper management does not want to risk deploying a patch that may affect user applications. Until this situation can be resolved, they will rely on their malicious code protection strategy.  - OT? Serial port card for SBS 2000 Shared Fax I would like to use the Shared Fax service and need an extra serial port to do this with an external modem. I would appreciate recommendations of add-in cards that have given you success and/or ones to avoid. SBS2000 is running on a Dell PowerEdge 2500 with some empty PCI slots. The two onboard serial ports are used for an APC SmartUPS and an external modem for RAS. I am hoping to find something that will successfully add a port and share some interrupt without conflicting with IRQ 3/4 being used by the two onboard ports. I am also hoping for something that uses an MS driver or whose manufacturer driver has a good reputation in this community. Some boards I have looked at (SIIG, Vitex) use some multi-function controller (NetMos) that requires additional manufacturer software to run.  - sbs2000 services don't stop, vpn won't connect and so on... hi i have been running an sbs2000 installation for 2 years (compaq proliant = dl350, 512mb ram). recently, several components of the server failed simultaneously. for = example when i try to stop a service, the service manager tries to shut = it down and then states that it cannot get the state of the service and = service shows up as "Stopping" forever (accessing the properties of a = service is also impossible: the MMC stops responding). I cannot access the "network and dial-up connections" window nor does = the network icon appear on the system tray. The server does not respond = to incoming VPN connections and severall other odd behaviours. The strange thing is that from the client computers everything looks = fine: login is normal, outllook works fine (although most of the times = exchange cannot deliver outbound messages) and we can access all file = shares on the server perfectly. Whenever I try to reboot the server takes a very long time to boot up = when compared to another Windows 2000 Server (not DC) that exists on the = network. The server is running ISA (on which I already limited the caching = behaviour since it was using a lot of memory and was showing a 700mb = pagefile), Exchange and has some file shares.  - SBS2000: Question about "Windows File Protection" Hello everyone. We found the "Windows File Protection" message on the SBS2K server today requesting the SP4 CD. I have some questions about this. 1. Must we have a CD for this? I originally installed SP4 from files I put on the hard drive, but there doesn't seem to be a way to point "Windows File Protection" to a directory. Am I right in assuming I need to burn the SP4 files onto a CD to fulfill this request? 2. How can I determine the file it wants to replace? There's nothing in the event logs related to Windows File Protection. The only error that I can find is a group of entries from early this morning about the hard drive having a bad block. I'm guessing that Windows File Protection must have been trying to read a file on this bad block and, when it couldn't, it wanted to replace it. Does that sound plausible?  - Permissions issue with users in Domain Users not able to see profi History: - I did an upgrade to my servers, basically I had SBS 2003 with 50 users on it, the server was old so we bought a new server. I built the server to be a 2003 Server in the same domain, server name, same settings the lot etc and then installed Exchange with all the same settings etc etc I then manually re-created all the users (easiest way as I only have 50 users, didnâ??t want to swing or migrate, wanted to leave current config in place while I built the other). I then Exmerged all the email, copied all the data and profiles, switched off the old servers plugged in the new, re-added all the PCâ??s to the new domain. Issue: - When I log in (with admin privileges) my profile comes down correctly, my email works, printers are available and policies are present. All works fine. When a normal user logs in (with Domain User privileges) firstly the group policies aren't coming into effect. No got any more info than this at the min, no errors no nothing! I backed up and restored my GPO's from the last server. Secondly when my users log on and download there profile form the server they don't see all of the profile. I restored there profiles from backup. When I look on the PC when they are logged in in documents and settings at the profile they can only see certain folders: - Users Documents Desktop Favorites Start Menu WINDOWS They can't see: - Application Data Local Settings etc etc I thought at first it wasn't downloading those folders but if I log on as an administrator and click on the cached copy of there profile all the folders are there, it's only when they are logged in that they can't see it. It shouldn't be a permissions thing on the folder as they can download it. It's not that they are hidden as I clicked to show hidden files and folders. This is causing outlook to fail as they can't see the application data folder. Also no printers etc Anyone any ideas as to whatâ??s happening here? Not sure if thereâ??s an overall permissions issue because the way I got round this problem was to put all my users into the Domain Admins group, everything works fine now but I need to get them all out of Domain Admins asap!  - migration from sbs2k to wserver2003 I have a client who wants to update their wan office servers. One server has sbs2k including exchange. Other server at remote location has windows server 2003 std installed. I would like to upgrade both servers to run windows server 2003 std, but dont want to lose exchange settings on sbs2000. Is there any way to upgrade sbs2000 and keep exchange, or do i need to buy exchange server 2003, and migrate records. Also, the person who installed the network, used wrong domain, would like to fix domain of the servers.  - Who is logged in to my SBS2000 Server I did recently redo my SBS2000 from scratch. All the old bugs are gone and the server works fine except that all my old utility collection is gone. I find out that a pure Windows2000 SP4 does not have a utility that shows who is logged in to the server and enables the administrator to force users logoff as did the good old WinNT SP6 Server.  - Address List Error Event ID: 8331 For the past couple of months, I've been seeing App. log errors as follows: Source: MSExchangeAL Category: Address List Event ID: 8331 The service threw an unexpected exception which was caught at y:\dsa\src\lra\abv_dg\lservagent.acpp (4664). While in this error state, new users added to Exchange are not seen in the Global Address List by the Outlook clients. All the references (especially KB 837444 and the related hotfix) I've come across for this error mention it in the context of SBS 2003 and usually multiprocessor systems. What I'm running is SBS 2000 on a single processor Dell PowerEdge 2600. The first two times this cropped up the error was repeated once a minute. In both cases, the problem went away after restarting the server - at first for 5 weeks, then for 2 weeks. The current error state is slightly different in that I got 4 8331 errors in 11 minutes a day and a half ago, after which they stopped - though the Address List problem remains.  - sbs2000 and the File Replication Service Hello, I cloned a scsi drive with Ghost 2003 unto I am getting some File Replication Service errors, which I should be getting since the clone'd drive is online as well. Can I STOP the File Replication Service if I only have one sbs2000 server online? I have stopped this service already on a test server without issue but want to make sure. Do I use the File Replication Service in one a domain, server kind of world anyway? The error I am getting is a warning, Source NTFRS, error 13562, "Could not Find computer object for this computer. Will try again at next polling cycle."  - Setting from 'send on behave' disappear after restarting outlook Hello, question. -SBS 2000, 20 clients, Windows 98se, Outlook 2000 All works fine if the user just uses it own things. Now if we login as the user on the local workstation of that user, and we open Outlook select the option within <extra> <options> <security> and select some users to give those users the rights to send on mybehave and save this and then look back into it, it is still there. But if we closedown Outlook and restart it again, the selected users are gone, and trying (on the other workstation to send mail from the other parties mailbox, we do not have the right. Anyone?  - 2K Server Downgrade and 30 Day Trial Media Hello, I telephoned Microsoft in the UK and they confirmed that I could "downgrade" from 2003 Server to 2000 Server in order to add this machine to my 2K SBS Network (without buying any extra CALs). Apparently, I should use the 2003 Serial Number and ANY 2000 Server Std Media. Microsoft in the UK said that they could not provide me with the media and suggested this should be available from my System supplier (sadly, it is not). They do not ship 2K Server anymore. Unfortunately, I do not have any 2000 Media (except the SBS). Some posts on here talk about contacting Microsoft "Fulfillment", but this is a US operation isn't it? Somewhere at home, I (think) there is a 30 day trial version of 2K server that was distributed with the 2K trianing kit. Do you think I would be able to use that disk? When I look in documents and settings at the profile they can only see certain folders: - Users Documents Desktop Favorites Start Menu WINDOWS They can't see: - Application Data Local Settings etc etc I thought at first it wasn't downloading those folders but if I log on as an administrator and click on the cached copy of there profile all the folders are there, it's only when they are logged in that they can't see it. It shouldn't be a permissions thing on the folder as they can download it. It's not that they are hidden as I clicked to show hidden files and folders. This is causeing outlook to fail as they can't see the application data folder. Anyone any ideas as to whats happening here? Not sure if theres an overall permissions issue or DNS issue here!!  - OT - XP SP2 changes networking slightly - watch out... Hi all, Just a short heads up on this. XP SP2 *apparently* changes certain aspects with regards networking. Although its possible that most people may not even notice this, we experienced a particular issue regarding VPN working which I thought was worth flagging up in case anyone gets anything similar. XP Pro SP1 laptop would VPN into our SBS2K network - no problem. All OK so far. We would then connect an IP softphone on the laptop to our VoIP PBX [Avaya IP Office] which resides on our LAN. Again, all OK so far. VoIP operation worked fine both inwards and outwards. Upgraded to SP2 Again, VPN in works fine. However, although VoIP operation outwards was fine, inwards was VERY choppy. We tried numerous things such as disabling the SP2 firewall entirely and reinstalling the IP softphone, in case either of these would help. Neither did. Ended up having to go back to SP1. Have emailed MS about this and am currently awaiting a response. From reading on various websites and other newsgroups, we understand that there *may* have been certain changes to certain parts of the 'standard' MS networking code and that various 3rd party VPN client software is also affected by similar delay issues. Although its in the final analysis down to the 3rd party vendors [in our case, Avaya] to resolve the issue by releasing fully SP2-compliant versions of their software, I though it was worth bringing to everyone's attention just in order to pre-warn them more than anything in case they are running anything over a VPN which is delay-intolerant such as VoIP.  - smtp mail dual-homed backup Hello everyone, Does anybody know of a company that offers a service whereby I might be able to have my smtp mail routed to 2 different mail locations. Here is my scenario. I would like mail coming to our domain to be sent to our ISP, as it currently is. This mail is retrievable by webmail. I would also like a copy of all mail sent to our exchange server. The exchange server would be what we use for normal mail operations. However, if our exchange mail server goes down, we would like to be able to revert to checking mail on our ISP's webmail server, _and_ we would like that there would be a history of all mail received even before our exchange server crashed. You might be wondering why we might want such an elaborate fall back mechanism. Our business operates with many very time sensitive deadlines. Much of these deadlines revolve around emails. It would instill peace of mind to be able to know that if our internal mail server was down for any slightly lengthy period (fire, flood, hurricane), we would still have immediate access to all mail, including mail we received in the weeks before the failure.  - Exchange old SBS2K to SBS2K3 The old SBS cannot be logged on to due to registry error. They cannot find their SBS software to run repair. I cannot get logged on in any way to move or perform a migration of any type. The situation: I setup a new SBS 2K3 server with all the bells and whistles. Got the company backup and running and they started using their e-mail on the SBS 2K3. I have been able to copy all the old data off of the old server, it was on a spare drive, to include the priv and pub edb data bases. The question is; How do I put the old pub and priv into the new exchange? Can I use exmerge to export out the new.  - sbs2000 printer newbie question I'm trying to connect a copier/printer to my network. The copier is shared between two businesses, two networks. I have the copier connected into a hub/switch, then into my network switch. The connection to the other biz network works fine - they already had the copier hooked up to their network and adding the shared hub/switch didn't alter anything. My network is set up with a router and two nics. The internal nic is at IP 10.0.0.2 so all of the network devices and clients on my network are using 10.0.0.x. The printer I want to connect to is set to an IP of 192.168.1.99. My question is, what do I need to do for my network to see this address. I can't ping the address and I'm assuming there is an entry on the internal NIC or LAT - somewhere. Should my network be able to see it automatically? I know I'll need to create an LPR port when I try and add as a printer - but I need to figure out why I can't see and ping the IP. Thanks for any help. I set up sbs 2k for terminal services for remote ad ministration, but i
cant connect to the server. i cant ping the server, but i can telnet to port
25. i have re run Icw but to no avail. any suggestions would be appreciated

Internally or from the Internet?

That just means port 25 is open & SMTP is listening.

Open up port 3389 in your firewall or ISA and point it at the internal IP of
your Exchange server.
