Folks,

With version 8.0 of Symantec Antivirus Corp Edition, System Center
never showed any infections on our server. Now with version 9.0 about
4 times a day our server catches a virus (usually Netsky) with it's
Real-time protection.

Furthermore, I've experimented when sending an email from a client
machine and witnessed briefly the email scanner popup on the server!
We use our server as a shared drive for our in-house software apps.
Our Antivirus and mail servers are on different machines.

On a final note, the SBS2000 application log is filled every few days
with tonnes of Symantec alerts. Version 8.0 never did this.

I'd appreciate any suggestions about where to start.

I have just installed V9 onto a SBS2000 server and have
also started getting lots of Netsky virus warnings
too....hmm strange that one. I did a live update today
using the server client software (not the symantec
centre) and it download a 9mb update file. Since then I
have had a lot less warnings - - might be worth a try.

I have a theory that with the new email real-time protection in
Symantec Antivirus Corp Edition 9.0, our server (which handles all
thru-traffic on our network) is polling ports 25 and 110 (used by our
email server). Maybe it's now finding a good share of infected emails
where before clients were.

Our IT manager reports that fewer of our employees are reporting virus
quarantine messages on their computers.

Am I right anyone?
