Don't know if its the same or not but I read an article recently regarding
one of the AV vendors programs [could have been McAffee, but that's from
memory] which suggested that the program creates a scheduled task to carry
out the auto updates but does so to run without a user. This apparently
isn't what W2K will look for or like so it needs to be manually set to run
as a specific user or the admin account.
Could be worth checking out in case it's something similar?
Sorry I don't have more exact info to hand - the reference is in the office
and I'm at home...
