When will SBS 2000 no longer be supported by MS?

No one has mentioned an Exact Date as yet, but for an indicator see:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;%5Bln%5D;LifeWin
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifesrvr

Given that mainstream support for component servers like SQL Server 2000
don't expire till 2 years after the launch of the next version (SQL
Server 2005), ISA 2K support ends in April 2006, and Exchange 2K in Jan
2006, I'd say it has quite a few legs in it yet.

I'm aware of SBS 2003 I'll be upgrading my hardware or i.e. buying a new
server soon and I don't really want to load two year old software on it.

Hi Dave

You wouldn't buy a new car and put a second hand engine in, why do it to
your server...;-)

2003 capabilities and options far outweigh 2000. Support is up for at least
another 5 years.

Who knows what server will arrive after longhorn gets released which has
been delayed another year...

Go for it... the benefits and products are cool...

Re: SBS 2000 Support expiration? by Henry

Henry

Next cab off the rank is SBS 2003 SP1 due in the next few weeks.
( for SBS Premium customers this will include ISA Server 2004 )

Then there will be a SBS 2003 SR1 shortly after Windows Server 2003 SR1
Planned for 1st half/mid of 2005.

Next is Windows Small Business Server 2003 "Cougar"
Planned for 2nd half/end 2005

Then Windows Small Business Server Longhorn
Sometime after ( the shorthorn version of ) Longhorn eventually
releases.

Personally I'd not be too concerned about waiting for future releases.
What we have now ( with SP1 and ISA 2004 ) is pretty fantastic for our
space, particularly if you couple it with other offerings such as CRM
( see the Special on the SBS CRM Bundle from microsoft ), Custom
Sharepoint Apps, or Quality Accounting / LOB Applications.

The big news going forward in my mind ( for our space) is not 64 Bit
O/Ss and Apps, but the Hardware. Dual Core Hyperthreaded Processors -
Microsoft have agreed to change the licensing to -per socket- instead of
Per Processor so that would mean we can run 8 CPU systems. Couple that
with new SAS and or SATA Mini Drives and your box becomes a monster that
will easily handle all those Servers and Applications on it. ( and
probably a few in VSs as well )

Henry,

Following the link you posted, I find that Windows Server 2000 support
expires at the end of next month, therefore SBS 2000 becomes impacted
severely at that point.

http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifewin

Product Name General Availability Date Mainstream Support Retired
Extended Support Retired

Windows 2000 Server 31-Mar-2000 30-Jun-2005 30-Jun-2010

that does not seem right. When did SBS 2000 appear, I mean how many
months after Windows 2000? It wasn't within a month was it?
