We recently had a raid card failure and had to rebuild the SBS server.
Unfortunately the backup software did not include the system state by
default so we had to manually recover the profiles by telling active
directory users which profile on the client machines to use. this worked
fabulously and most users wouldn't have had a clue the server was ever down.

However, I have 2 Windows XP clients that are still taking from 2 to 4
minutes to log onto the network. It looks like its during the profile load
stage that they seem to be hanging up for a couple of minutes.

Any ideas?

Both clients are on a 100MB switch.

I have checked and both profiles are under 400 MB's. However since the
first synchronization after the server rebuilt we went in and removed the
profile path from the active directory users profile and all other machines
are loading profiles in 10 or 20 seconds. Including my own with a 2.5 gig
profile directory.

Thanks for any help gang.

check the binding order of your two NICs on your server, and make sure your
internal nic is listed first. Also, make sure your external nic has nothing
but TCP/IP attached to it.

I am only using a single NIC on the server. Our Internet connection is at a
remote office that connects to us via a T1 directly to our local LAN.

Thanks

DNS on the servernic is pointing to your server-IP, right?
Does everything on an ipconfig/all from the client point to your server-IP
as well?

Yes. Everything points at the server except for the default gateway which
is the router to the T1 where our internet connection is. None of this has
changed. Its run this way for 2 years before and 2 months after the new SBS
2000 server was installed.

Thanks.
