SBS 2000, SP4 installed
2 identical IDE drives (on same IDE channel) with MS software RAID1
implemented.
The mirrored drives resynch every time the server is rebooted.
No errors in the event logs.

Anyone have any ideas?

Software RAID1 drive resynch on each reboot by Neil

Ive had that happen a few times - but I remember it
stopping after about 3 reboots (and resynchs)

It did go away eventually

Hmmm... This one doesn't seem to be going away. :-(

Thanks for the input Neil.

I did nigh think o that, good idea.

other thing I'd try is to stop ALL unnecessary services manually then
shutdown, does it again rebuild on restart? (I'm wondering if something
isn't being allowed to complete it's shutdown so therefore is marking the
disk as 'dirty')

REALLY, I'd be looking at replacing your crummy IDE software RAID with a HDD
subsystem which is suitable for a server (READ SCSI, hardware RAID).

Larry, SG... I'll give your suugestions a try.

Replace server... These were the first words out of my mouth when I took
over this client a few weeks ago. Not a great setup. Server is basically
workstation components in a cheap server case. Fairly light use but they
have only 512MB and are running a couple of small SQL databases. They've
been using Yahoo for email and now they want POP3 via Exchange and external
access to mailboxes via OWA. The company who set it up (recently gone out
of business) had AV software scanning the M: drive and other problematic
areas. Backup device is a tired Travan tape drive. Tapes haven't been
replaced in 18 months.

As usual, no money in budget for new hardware... could be a challenge. :-)

Hi Larry,

Unchecking the Write Cache box looks like it solved the problem! Only one
drive (the secondary drive) had this property checked. Not sure why one
drive had it checked and the other didn't, but it's not resynching now (at
least after one reboot).

Thanks for your help.
