    - Contacts Hi Everybodies, Not sure if this is the right place, but will see if someone can help me. I have a client who has SBS2K, what he wants to do is create like an "Organisational Contact" list. Essentially what he wants to do is that if they need to send an email to someone in that list, they click on new mail-TO- and from the drop down list where the GAL and other contacts live pull up the "Organisational Contact List" and then send the mail. Also they want to be able to have one designated person make that change and then that change flows on from there. I do hope that made sense. Any ideas? Tag: SBS2000 and Software Assurance.     - Windows Explorer I'm at the testing stage for VPNing into an SBS 2k box. All service packs and updates are installed on the server, VPN has been configured as per MS KB's 320697,292822, and 306802. When I test the connection the client is able to access the server, my remote session can be seen in the Routing and Remote Access MMC, Outlook on the client connects to Exchange, ISA client detects the server, my Anti-Virus client connects with the it's Server, Word etc. can access files (and create folders) on the server, and can print to a printer on an internal workstation. But if I try to browse the network through Windows Explorer/Network Neighbourhood I get the message "<MyDomain> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact The Administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."     - licensing Hi! I have a client who has about 60 computers, but maintains 250 or so email messages. Bar associations will often create email addresses for all their members and allow those members to pop their mesages, but those members reside at their own offices and maintain their own equipment.     - Please Help I am trying to install the Microsoft Firewall client to one of the client computer. I am unsure of the location of the file or name of the file. So, I tried another method, without success. The method was that I open the Small Business 2000 Server Console followed the following navigation: Favorite Tab --> Set up client computers --> select the client computer that I wanted to setup by highlighting it --> Selected add software to Computer --> Then went through the Setup Computer Wizard selecting Microsoft Firewall Client After going through these steps there was no difference, even after a re-boot.     - Desperately require help with VPN configuration We have a pretty bizzare 2 server network configured as follows- SERVER 1 We have a small biz2k server which runs a very memory hungy SQL ERP system. This server is the DC and also has DHCP, WINS and DNS installed. The server has one NIC for the Internal network. It has a static IP adddress of 192.168.16.2. The server assigns IP address' to the rest of the client PC's on the network, including server2. Subnet Mask is standard 255.255.255.0 SERVER 2 We also have a Windows2k member server which runs Exchange2k and ISA2k. The server also has WINS and DNS. (DHCP is installed but not configured). This server has two Nic's one facing the internal network and the other facing the BB Router. Internal NIC - IP address this server receives via DHCP from server1 is always 192.168.16.22 External NIC - The external NIC is configured to use static IP of 211.XXX.XXX.252 an address leased from our ISP. (This is the address of our external NIC we VPN into). The External Nic is configured to use DNS of 6x.xxx.xxx.200, our ISP's DNS server. Subnet mask of 255.255.255.248 RRAS is installed on this server to allow VPN traffic. We also have a range of leased IP address' from our ISP 211.xxx.xxx.250 to 211.xxx.xxx.260 ROUTER We have a BB router configured for IP routing connected to server2. This has an IP Address of 211.XXX.XXX.251 Problem - I have setup a VPN for our sales team to access from outside our company HQ. I have right clicked "Allow VPN connections" in ISA and also configured the users via AD to allow them remote dial access. They can dial in, authenticate and connect via VPN but that is all they can do. Here's the result from the client PC when we do an Ipcongig/all. This was when the VPN client had established a connection to the VPN server(server2). Question 1 - Why are VPN users being assigned 169.254.19.240 as their IP address when they dial in and why from the default gateway of 169.254.82.127? (This does not even relate to our internal network IP range) Question 2 - How do i change it in order that i can have VPN clients receive one of the leased IP address' we have 211.xxx.xxx.250 to 211.xxx.xxx.260 ? Question 3 -When a user connects via VPN they can only browse the network via Windows explorer. They see the VPN server (Server2) but the connection is drastically slow even when they come in over their own BB connection.     - Undeletable mailbox Hi all, I have an SBS 2000 box where I imported the mailboxes from SBS4.5 (ran exmerge). All 35 mailboxes imported ok. The clients were all able to access their mailboxes OK except one, which was corrupt. I was unable to remove the mailbox or delete the contents in any way soooo..... I created a new mailbox and associated it with the user account and then imported the messages again from the .pst files....no problem. However, I now cannot delete the old mailbox, I have tried allsorts and run the mailbox cleanup, all to no avail. I now get an error message on the backup because it is unable to backup the mailbox and yet I am unable to remove it........any idea's??? TIA Terry Tag: SBS2000 and Software Assurance. Tag: 148672

    - Changing Point & Print drivers The consultant that setup our SBS 2003 selected the Windows 2000, Windows XP version for the Point & Print Driver. We however have one NT 4.0 client. Reviewing Microsoft's Knowledge base I discovered that the Windows NT 4.0 should have been chosen since it contains drivers for 2k and XP clients. Is it ok to deselect the WIndows 2000, Windows XP version and then select the Windows NT 4.0 version? Or is there a procedure to follow? Thank you very much!     - Configuring Network Fault Tolerance I need suggestions on how to configure SBS2K to automatically use a dial-up Internet account if the Cable Modem connection fails. As far as I know this is possible with ISA, but this customer's configuration does not include ISA. We will be upgrading to SBS 2003 soon, does the new version have any provisions for this?     - OT: VHS to DVD conversion I'm looking for a device to help one of my customers convert some of their old old VHS training tapes onto DVD. Apparently trying to convert analog to digital is not as easy as some people think it should be.     - FTP SIte problem We have a windows 2000 server and I have created a read-only FTP site where users can come in and copy files from our site to their local machines. Originally, I had only one directory set up and was allowing anonymous login to the site. I had specified a user account which has no access to anything but the FTP dir. However, now the requirements have grown such that we want other users to get on our site and download information from various directories within the FTP site structure. (it has grown) I've decided to can allowing anonymous access and have want to force people to log on with a particular username/password. In this way, I can then control what directories on the FTP site these users have access to. My problem is this, I have modified the properties of the FTP site by unchecking the 'Allow Anonymous Logon" checkbox - but it is still allowing the anonymous user access without having to specify a username/password. What might I be doing wrong? AM I missing something? Also, do I have to specify somewhere who can access the site or does it simply use windows authentication and basically any user could log on there that we have an account for (provided they have security access to the FTP dirs...)     - Exchange Install Bombs I am trying to install Exchange on a new PC. I am running SQL Server 2000 on Win 2000 Server. I have DNS correctly configured and Dynamic Updates are enabled. But when I go to install exchange, it says "Multiple Components cannot be assigned the requested action(s) because -Setup is unable to access the Windows 2000 Active Director -Failed to contact the Schema Master server for the Active Directory Forest Active Directory is installed, but I know very little about it. I did not set up AD nor do I know what is required for it. When I go into AD Sites And Services, under Sites -> Default First Site -> Servers, my named DNS Server (SQLSERVER1) is not there, looks like a NetBios name (D9M....1) instead. That seems important. When I run the utility "DCDIAG" for Active Directory, man it looks bad. All sorts of stuff not connecting and running, but some things are OK. I'm sure it's something simple. I have tried Uninstalling DNS Server and reinstalling the server with the same name as the NetBios looking one, but it wont let me do anything but select the one I'm trying to get rid of.     - Repost: Shared fax problem Hi all, I'm having a weird problem with faxmodem. The modem can connect to data just fine, but if I try to send a fax, it does dial but then the fax console reports that "the remote machine did not answer in a timely manner" (or something along those lines). Watching the modem I can see the Carrier Detect light blinking, and Tx/Rx light also at times. I have tried this with two different modems with the same result, so I guess that pretty much rules out hardware/phone line issues (+ the fact that data connection works fine). So it looks like Windows 2003 is having trouble communicating with the modem when sending a fax. How do I troubleshoot that ? Thanks for any insight !! Petri Tag: SBS2000 and Software Assurance.     - Can't use FTP/real audio/telnet/shoutcast etc... Have no idea why our new XP machines can't seem to access all this information when the Win2k and Win98 were fine. I have an Allow All/All/All rule on the server. I also have ftp allow rule that came with SBS. I also set up real audio to use 'http no proxy' - which again worked fine with window 2k but no longer on windows XP. The XP machines and 2K machines have the same group membership (just checked). The same people log into them (so it is not something funny with that). We have several windows XP machines, a few gateways and dells of various vintage, and all have the same problem. I tried to install the ISA firewall, but the machine just hung and windows reported that the installer is no longer responding. Should you install the ISA firewall on XP machines? I think that someone is using my server to relay messages, but I'm not sure. Does my receiving these messages have anything to do with relaying?     - Disk defrag My SBS2000 servers C drive needs defragged. I tried to do this over the weekend but did not seem to start actually defragging.     - Small Business Server 2003 - What's included? I am currently running Microsoft Back Office Small Business Server 4.5 and am thinking of upgrading to Small Business Server 2003. Can anyone tell me what is included in SBS 2003??? i.e. does it include Exchange Server???? I know SBS 4.5 includes Exchange Server 5.5 and was wondering if 2003 is the same.     - Additional sub-nets 192.168.1.x We are adding another server(192.168.16.x) (linux) for a time clock program a vendor provided. This time clock needs to be accessed by two networks on my system, SBS2K's 192.168.16.x, and my static IP's on the 192.168.1.x network. How can I let SBS2K see the 192.168.1.x network, and visa versa? If I change the other non-SBS2K (Win98) wkstns to dhcp, then they loose the default gateway of the router, and can no longer browse the Internet. I would also have the advantages of letting the non-SBS2K wkstns of pulling down anti-virus updates, and other things. Is it doable? Do we need to modify the LAT?     - Health monitor issues Setup: SBS2K on Dell Poweredge 2600, PIII 933Mhz*2, SCSI RAID 5, 1 GIG RAM.. Software: SBS2K, SQL Server (running a very small acctg DB with very few concurrent users), Exchange, II All the Service Packs and patches have been applied I realize that every time I reboot the server which I try to do every other week or so, I get critical warnings in Server Status in SBS Admin Console. E.g. Severity Date/Time Data Collector Threshol Critical Boot Time Cache Error Code (from WMI Critical Boot Time Memory Pages Input/sec > Critical Boot Time Memory Page Reads/sec > Critical Boot Time Memory Pages/Sec > 8 The list keeps going.... Then when I go into Health Monitor there are critical red x's all over Windows 2000 Performance monitor. (Backoffie Application Monitors, Example WMI Monitors, Network and Website Monitors, Windows 2000 Event Monitors, Windows 2000 Service Monitors all report Ok. Within Windows 2000 Performance Monitor Here is the situation REDx File Syste OK Logical and Physical Disk REDx Memor REDx Networ REDx Processo REDx Securit REDx Syste Ok Web Service Within each category with a critical Red X mark, there are more Red X's. I have not experienced any performance on the part of the server, and everything seems to be running smoothly. None of the users have reported problems either. How can I get rid of these annoying X's I have seen that people were recommended to upgrade memory in previous threads... Could that be a solution to my problem Any help would be appreciated...     - Disk Imaging & Fragmented NTFS Volumes I'm getting "Disk defragmenter could not initialize" error message. MS doc #kb 274106 says its due to a high fragmented ntfs volume & MFT. The resolution is to do a complete backup & restore of the volume. Would a disk imaging program such as "Ghost" or "Drive Image" work easier & faster? Anyone familiar with imaging programs and any advice? I have SBS 2000 c/w hardware RAID-5, 2 logical drives 1 & 2 1 - Basic C: (high fragmented boot drive) 1 - Basic F: (exchange files) 1 - Dynamic E: (data files) Can I create an image on another partition like E: & then restore it to C: Tag: SBS2000 and Software Assurance.     - Problem with Windows 2000 Sever Media We bought windows 2000 Sever with 25 client license software from directdeals.com December 17, 2003 cost us 1082.25 dollars with shipping. when we open the package we found software media (CD) got a 1/2 inch crack starting from one edge on both side. Now I can not use the brand new product. DirectDeals.com is very unprofessional it about and refuse to help. I like the replacement media but they are refusing any help.     - 2 Admin accounts Slightly odd one. SBS2k - if a site has 2 part-time Administrator posts (job-share) is it feasible to set up 2 accounts (say 'Administrator' and 'Administrator2' ) which have equal rights?     - Newbie Help - Setup Well where to start. I am the lone IT clown at my company, and the IT manager wants Exchange install on our new SQL Server so we can IM in office and other things. I am running Windows 2000 Server with SQL Server 2000. I know NOTHING about Exchange, Active Directory, or DNS Server, etc... I am a programmer trying to administer a network I donâ??t yet understand. I have been reading extensive Knowledge base stuff, and have an idea of what I'm doing. Before I install Exchange I must 1) Set up DNS Server (I Think this is done, seems to work 2) Set Up Active Directory(Which I know NOTHING about, and was already installed before I started here 3) Then Install Exchang I have tried to set up the DNS Server as best I can, and it seems to work, but documentation says four folders should be present _msdc _site _tc _ud I don't even know where these folders should be, never mind if they are there.     - Hard Drive space I have a SBS 2000 server running with Exchange 2000 on it along with some other stuff included with SBS 2000. My problem is that I keep losing space in my hard drive. A month ago I had 1.5 Gb, last Friday - 750 Mb, and today 30 Mb. I checked on some mailboxes and found a few that were kind of big, but they have always been big. Does anyone know what could be going on or what I can do to stop this. I ran virus scan and couldn't find anything. At our site we pick up via POP3 and send out via SMTP. Either way we do not have a D efault Virtual SMTP server.     - SBS2003 IIS6 & ISA2000: Cant create a new website accessable from the internet Hi Al I am having a major problem creating a website accesable from from the internet. Background info: server was upgraded from SBS2000 and therfore has ISA2000 on it. It has two netwrok cards, one internal, and one external, bot static. Since upgrading I need to create a new website for a new stream of business. I have contacted my ISP to create a new domain for this site and mapped it to the servers exteranl IP. All fine Now I go to IIS in the server management console, right click in the "websites" pane and sleect New-->Web site. Follow the steps choosing the the exteranl server IP address and typing in the new domain name in the host header field. Finish the wizard and voila, the site wont start. Get the error message "The network location cannot be reached. For more information about Windows network troubleshooting, see windows Help." Right, now trying to troubleshoot this, if i change the IP to the internal one it starts. I have rerun the the Internet Connection wizard and selected Yes to the firewall bit. In the bit where it asks what parts of the server to make availble from the internet, I have selected all, including the website (wwwroot). still no luck. tried a bit of fiddling with ISA but i'm not too hot on it so didn't come to a solution Something I find quite wierd is that the "Default Web Site" (wwwroot) is only set on the internal interface but IS accessable from the internet Can anybody reccomend anything else I can try Thanks for your help Luke Tag: SBS2000 and Software Assurance.     - OWA on SSL I an currently using the procedure on http://www.smallbizserver.net/sbs2000/How_do_I_configure_OWA_with_SSL.aspx to give OWA on SSL. However, can anyone clarify how the authentication process is controlled? Is it the same as VPN'ing into the server and opening OWA, when you get a login dialog box for authentication?     - VPN & Kb 292822 I've followed Kb 320697 & the last point was to install hotfix 292822 - do I have to even though I've SP4 installed? If so & being new to this Registry editor lark, I have come across a few niggles that I can't work out. I can add the Value Name & Data Type but in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlo gon\Parameters - how do i add the Range? Is this just a data entry of 0 in the DWORD editor? Also in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Remot eAccess\Parameters\IP - what data do I add? It says 1 or 0, 1=DisableNetbios. Do i just enter 1? Next Question!! In the WINS database entries - when it says delete the IP addresses if same as dial in interface - is this the internal NIC subnet?     - Importing Remote Computers Hi all I am changing our server to a new improved version!?!?! and I need to import all the computers. However, we have a couple of laptop users situated at a remote site where they use VPN to connect to us that will also need importing.     - Microsoft Licensing Hi, I work for a non-profit. We serve disabled adults. There are approximately a 100 pc's at our organization. More than half of those are NOT on the SBS server. They have been assigned static IP addresses and are used for Internet access (again through the cable router, NOT SBS). I have a question about licensing. I don't want to violate any licensing, but I would like to take advantage of using the dhcp server to assign all the computers on both networks IP addresses.     - Basic VPN question Sorry if this is a stupid question, but this is the first SBS server I have worked on. Internally the server is working fine, but we now want VPN access and / or OWA.     - Service Packs and Downloads We have a SBS 2000 server and a Win 2000 TS server. Is there a quick way to determine what service packs are installed for each of the applications that come with SBS 2000 ?. I tried looking under the SBS Admin console. I know I have got SBS 2000 SP1 and Win 2000 SP3 on the SBS and SP3 on the TS. Are there any issues in using either express or network installation when downloading the latest service packs ? We have only got the 2 win 2000 servers and all our 25 WS are either 98 (soon to be upgraded) or XP.     - move win xp pcs from nt4 domain to sbs2000 I have 10 winxp pro pcs that are currently logging on to a single NT 4.0 file server. the xp pro pc's are members of the nt 4 domain (the nt 4 server is a domain controller.) the nt 4 server is going to be decommissioned and a sbs 2000/2003 server will replace it. I want to preserve the users desktops, settings, apps etc and have the win xp pcs log on to the sbs domain. I have seen "netdom" mentioned as a tool to do this.     - Frontpage ISA settings? Hi - my website is designed & uploaded in FP to a shared server run by my isp. If I upload using pc directly attached to adsl router then no problems - however if the pc is on the SBS network & therefore behind ISA, the upload gets to the point of asking for the Username & password for the site & then fails to do anything more. I assume that FP on the pc & the FP site at the isp must have to do some sort of handshake(?) and that ISA server is blocking/filtering that. Any suggestions as to how to deal with it?     - roaming profiles I have an SBS2000 network with win98 and win xp pro. They want roaming profiles. I know the preferred method would be using a GPO and redirection. But I don't think that works with win98. I setup a folder called profiles and configured all users to point to this share in active directory. But the xp clients are not working. they get an error at log in about could not find profile will use local copy. Can someone tell me how to make roaming profiles work for both clients. Please point me in the direction of what I need to do to allow the POP3 email as well as the News Group so client can have access.     - VPN Firewall through ISA I have a SnapGear firewall which I will be using as the VPN end point for my clients, rather than ISA/SBS2K. I intended to run the firewall through the second NIC and ISA Server so I could use the reporting features of ISA. The problem is that because the firewall is a VPN Server it needs to issue IP addresses out from it's subnet, which is 192.168.0.255. The LAN IP range is totally different to this. What do I do? I haven't actively tested this yet as I am still in the early stages but need to prepare before I go too far to turn back. If the VPN clients are issued the 192.168.0.255 address will they still be able to acess the LAN? Any suggestions, comments or further questions most welcome. Thanks. Tippy. A software assurance question:

One of my clients bought software assurance when buying sbs2000. He wants to
get the premium edition of sbs2003. How does this work?

He bought software assurance for sbs2000 with 5 cals. And then software
assurance for each of the additional 4 packs of 5 cals. 25 users. But then
he bought later a single 5 pack of sbs2000 licenses, without the software
assurance on that. Don't know what happens to that extra 5 cals.

Total on the server will be 30 users.
