Laptop question. XP sp1, cannot find exchange server
Hello,
I noticed that on some users laptops, they are "losing" their lan
connections after standbying and resuming their laptops. I know that there
is a network connect timeout value on Win2k server connections, when you
open my computer you see a "disconnected network drive" but if you click the
drive, you see all your files. Is this same value affecting the user's
connections to the exchange server? It does not happen on the Desktop pcs.
What do you think? All the desktops are Win2k, laptops XP SP1.

Faxing multiple documents
Quick question regarding faxing multiple documents from SBS 2000 Shared faxing services. Is there a limit on the number of files a user can fax to one user at the same fax number at the same time. Say for instance Joe Blow wants to fax 35 different Word documents at the same time to the same fax number and user. Is this a possibility. I believe WinFax limits the number of documents to 12, and I am not aware if the SBS version has the same restrictions.
Thanks in advance for the assistance. Tag: Software Assurance and Upgrade Media Tag: 140712

ISA Server timeout on evaluation copy
We run ISA server not from our SBS Domain Controller but
instead from a member server.
Prior to purchasing our copy of ISA server we have been
running an evalutation copy and all works well, internet
access is fine etc.
My problem is this:
The three month evaluation copy is about to run out and i
need to know wether when it runs out it will just kill ISA
altogther or will it be like Macromedia products and say
something like "Your evaluation copy has expired please
upgrade or punch in the serial-key which comes with a
valid product".
Does anyone know if this will be the case.
I would rather just be prompted to puch in a serial key as
installing and configuring ISA was a little frustrating
and time-consuming last time round. Tag: Software Assurance and Upgrade Media Tag: 140709

Memory Problem on SBS Server
I have an SBS Server which is getting very low on memory. It looks like the
biggest portion of memory is going to the Exchange Information Store.
The company has committed to buying a new server in the new year, but of
course I need to manage the situation now. Can anyone tell me a way I can
free up some memory via maintenance or configuration, or is the situation
not remediable except by adding new memory?

FTP through ISA
Our SBS 2000 server has ISA and IIS with an ftp site
running. I can connect to the ftp directory using IE and
can upload and download just fine from different remote

their office can connect either by using IE or a ftp

files. The error is "can't open data connection".
I found a KB article about this:

Mcafee Anti Virus updating
Has anyone had as many problems as I when it comes to updating McAfee
Antivirus products loaded on a SBS2000 box?
My environments usually include a hardware firewall sitting in front of the
SBS 2000 box. Firewalling is turned on with the SBS 2000 box as well. All
internet browsing, downloading, etc... works fine except when it comes to
updating McAfee.
We have Groupshield 5.2 and Virusscan 7.1 Enterprise on the server. I have
turned off updating for Groupshield - opting for Virusscan to do the work.
I can ftp to ftp.nai.com and manually grab all the updates and bring them
down to my server, but when I setup VirusScan to do this through its
interface I can't seem to get anywhere. NAI seems to be at a loss too and
says its related to the configuration of my Proxy. Doesn't seem to make
sense if I can manually grab the dats.
Under Edit Autoupdate Repository lists - I have enabled NAI FTP and NAI
HTTP.
Has anyone had any success with this? Tag: Software Assurance and Upgrade Media Tag: 140693

Outlook To name coming from where?
I have a strange problem.
One of my users complained that when typing an e-mail and starting to enter
the recipients name outlook automatically fills in the name.
But the name has no e-mail address attached to it so can't be sent.
Strangly the name doesn't appear anywhere in outlook contacts or any address
books I can see.
This also happens if another user types that name so it's a contact name
known to the domain.
I've looked everywhere but can't see any reference to the name.
Where could be hiding so I can delete it.

Recovering Exchange Data from Mirrored Drive Copy
Hi all,
Long story but to cut it short we now have:
Clean install of SBS2k
Mirrored copy of previous SBS2k install including Exchange databases
Have tried:
Copied the 'clean/new' Exchange databases to a temp directory [and backed up
to tape]
Copied the previous Exchange databases [and logs] to the current Exchange
directory
Ran the following as per Q327156:
eseutil /p on both priv1.edb and pub1.edb
eseutil /mh on both priv1.edb and pub1.edb
eseutil /d on both priv1.edb and pub1.edb
All ran OK
However, when we attempt to run ISINTEG -S Server_Name -FIX -TEST ALLTESTS
it simply won't run at all.
We cannot mount the previous copy of the Exchange databases and this is
starting to cause confusion...
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers,

I've walked into a server with the same public and private domain name.
I've done the fix suggestted by Mariette and Susan etal at

SBS 2k server with Exchange 2k to respond to mail for two diff. domain names
Hello All:
Hope some one acan help me with this.
I want to setup my exhange 2k server so that is receieves mail for 2 diff
domains, say for example domain-old and domain-new.
Whenever someone sends e-mail to the old domain-old, I want the server to
forward the message to the user at domain-new and also to auto reply the
sender with a message saying something like "as of this date our new domain
name is domain-new".
I loked it up a little on techenet and it seems that creating two Virtual
SMTP Servers may do the trick, but I'm don't know if it will only work for a
sub-domain or if it will handle a completely different name. In addition I
don't know it out ISP can have 2 different DNS records for two diffrerent
domain names pointing to the same public IP address.
Can anyone help?
Much Appreciated

strange OWA behaviour
I am running OWA and ISA.
I have set the default website for basic authentication as suggested in the
knowledgebase.
OWA works fine for all users except one - where I get a dialogue box that
prompts for credentials three times and then gives me a not authorised
error. I can't see anything obviously different in the properties for this
user account v the others wich work OK.
Any suggestions?

terminal server as a print server?
hi,
up until now i have been very conservative with our terminal server, mainly
because i am afraid of losing it really... :)
however i am noticing a performance decrease with our sbs since we added 2
more printers to it. Since out terminal is a powerful machine i am
considering sharing one or two printers through this server.
can anything go wrong by using the server for this purpose ?
thanks

Software Update Service - Installation and IE issue
Installed SUS on SBS 2000 Server with SP1 and IE 6.0
installed. I have 2 questions:
1 I can't get the SUSAdmin window to load no matter what I
do by following the white paper instructions. I have
already tried removing and re-installing. Any ideas?
2 Post loading SUS I have noticed that our IE home page
does not load on first click when opening IE and you have
to re-click the home icon on the IE menu. Again any ideas? Tag: Software Assurance and Upgrade Media Tag: 140588
Attempted Security Breaches
Periodically we have attempts to gain access to our network. This is
observed in the event logs as Event ID's 529 with the workstation name being
the server. The attempts read like this:
Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: Security
Event Category: Logon/Logoff
Event ID: 529
Date: 11/7/2003
Time: 7:04:02 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: SERVERNAME (Not the real name)
Description:
Logon Failure:
Reason: Unknown user name or bad password
User Name: abc
Domain:
Logon Type: 3
Logon Process: Advapi
Authentication Package: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0
Workstation Name: SERVERNAME (Not the real name)
It's obvious that it's some kind of program that is running that every 3
seconds tries a generic username like abc, data, backup, admin, sql ...
The logon type 3 is equal to "Network" versus lets say 2 which "Interactive"
as in a TS session.
These attacks usually last about 30 minutes or so.
What I'm confused about is these originating from outside or inside our
network. Is they're any way to detect a program that may be on our network?
Thanks,

VPN - LAN resources not available
I am sure I have something configured incorrectly so could use a bit of help
in identifying the problem.
Running SBS2K with SP3. Configured VPN as per the MS whitepaper. Trying to
connect to the server remotely with a notebook computer which also works on
the LAN. The remote computer works fine when plugged into the server hub
and all resources (e.g. Outlook and shared folders) are available when the
notebook is on the LAN locally.
However, when connecting remotely via a high-speed connection, the VPN
connection works fine and I log on fine but I can not see any server
resources - no shared folders, no user folders, no firewall connection, etc.
In the VPN connection properties on the remote computer, the use default
gateway is NOT checked.
On the remote computer, I can ping the broadband router and "external"
interface NIC but not the internal LAN NIC.
On the RRAS server, the RRAS IP settings are set to a different subnet than
the server (server uses 192.168.0.x on the LAN side, 192.168.16.x on the
external interface and RRAS assigns 172.16.1.x for remotes) IP routing is
enabled and DNS, DHCP etc is set to be assigned from the LAN interface
rather than the WAN interface. The 172 series IS in the LAT.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Remote Access using ISDN
SBS 2000 server has ISDN line connected giving 2 channels but only some of
the clients connecting in have ISDN.
I have RVS-COM running which allows me to set up one of the channels as a
virtual modemon COM Port 4.
What I want to do is have ISDN TA listen on first port only and have ISDN
clients connect on that and have virtual modem listening on second port for
non-ISDN clients.
Is this possible ?

RAS server Interface connection speed
Please excuse me if this is the wrong group, I can't find anything specific for SBS2003. I have a working RC and am testing remote VPN access. My tester is connecting using the SBS connection provided by remote access wizard and the SBSpackage.exe. The connection works fine, but when I look in Task Manager at the RAS Server (Dial in) Interface, the connection speed shows 28kbps. My tester has a 64k ISDN connection to his ISP. Is this an adjustable setting on my SBS? or is this a "problem" with the ISP Tag: Software Assurance and Upgrade Media Tag: 140577
SBS2K3 Remote Access VPN and Ports
I've successfully setup SBS2K3 Standard w/out ISA. I have only 1 NIC. I
ran the Remote Access Wizard and configured the VPN access.
Will this work with only the 1 NIC?
If so, what Ports do I need to open on the Hardware Firewall to forward the
VPN traffic to the server in order for external clients to make the VPN
connection?
Please let me know.
THanks,

Size restrictions in SBS 2003 (Exchange 2003 & SQL 2000)
Does any know if there are any size restrictions applied
to the SQL databases or Exchange Databases ?
I seem to remember in 4.0 or 4.5 that a 10GB limit was
applied.
Nothing seems to be mentioned on the MS Web Site.
Thanks

Migrate SBS 2K From Old server to NEW server
Hello,
We have an old SB 2K Server at work, and we are buying a
new HP server for it to run on.
I will have the problem of brining everything across (user
accounts / passwords, mailboxes, permissions and user
files (private & company)
Can someone please tell me the best method to do this?
I think there should be some tools to aid with this.
I was going to.
1) Perform a backup of the data only on the old server.
2) Install w2k/sbs on the new hardware. (configure
exchange, isa etc)
3) Create all the accounts by hand & set the passwords.
4) restore the data from the backup. (inc exchange edb)
The reason is that the old server is very old, and getting
slower by the minute.
Can anyone point me to some info on a better way to do
this?
Many thanks in advance
Paul

ping and nslookup different: ISA problem?
Hi,
We use SBS2K with ISA.
We manage some servers outside our lan, with TS. These servers are on the
Internet with dyndns, not a permanent IP.
Sometimes, we have to reboot theses machines, and their ISP give them a new
IP when they reconnect to the Net.
They send automatically this new IP to the dyndns, and everything is fine so
far.
When I try to ping from our LAN :
From our server, the new adresss is correct.
But from my PC (XP), if we ping, it still has the IP adress before
rebooting, except with nslookup.
The problem is we can't reach the outside server with the new IP for a
period (a few hours), and then it works again.
I guess there is something with ISA that send the old adress, without
verifying the new IP?
Does someone had this problem and resolved it?

Problem receiving faxes via SBS fax sharing setup
All,
I have an SBS2000 setup utilizing fax sharing using a
external US Robotic 56K modem. Clients can send faxes,
but no one can receive them via the server. I have the
fax manager configured have incoming faxes routed to
print to the network printer. Modem will answer
incoming call then go into a study long tone for about 3
to 5 minutes then shut off as if the caller hung up.
Also notice fax service stops. Rebooted the server,
restarted the fax service, set it to autmatic start at
start up, still no help. Any ideas? Anyone?

POP Connector and e-mail accounts w/Qwest
Our ISP is Qwest and they are telling me that they cannot
route all e-mail for our domain into one group, e-mail
box. This seems odd to me.I've done this with other ISPs
with no problems...Qwest is telling me that I have to
create e-mail accounts for each user on their system
which means I have to manage email accounts (for each
user) on Qwest and with the POP connector. Is this
unusual? Will it casue any unusal e-mail addressing
problems when replying to messages, etc.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Tag: Software Assurance and Upgrade Media Tag: 140540
