Hello

Hope somebody can help. I have an SBS 2000 installation on A Dell server
running dual processors. When I look at the administration console it reports
four processors running at 95- 100% constantly.

My customer is experincing problems with a particular application running
slowly on the LAN.

Anybody have any suggestions

MAny thanks

It's hard to diagnose a problem without more information ..
Which processes are taking up the resources?
What application are they using that is running slow?

You may want to check out SysInternals -- they have several free utilities
that will allow more control and detail in viewing and monitoring running
processes, which files they are opening, etc.

Johnniemol,

I agree with all that Kevin has said.

However, IMHO, we need to know how many users are in the AD domain, how many
desktops, are you running ISA in a (preferred) Dual-NIC configuration.

Each time I have read a post like this, my suspicion immediately turns to
AD/Mal ware.

These insidious processes "suck-down" even a powerful processor and server.

I have been trying out the Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta and LOVE it.

It is finding thins that Spybot Search & Destroy AND AdAware miss. It is
very easy to install and use.

Many thanks for your response

I will run our preferred product Sypdoctor on the server, however the server
has been in this state for some time.

There are 25 users in the AD and ISA server is running but not being utilised

many thanks

single or dual NIC?

What do you mean not being utilised?

A dual processor Dell should be running at less that 25% assuming that you
are running SBS/exchange/IIS/ISA.

How much RAM... and what type of disk structure..i.e. # of physical drives,
RAID? Y/N

how big is the pagefile.sys?

As a guideline, I have a PowerEdge 2600 dual xeon 2.4 GHZ P4's w/ 1GB ram
(2) 36GB SCSI RAID 1 boot disk
(3) 36 GB SCSI RAID 5 data
dual NIC
ISA
IIS
EXCHANGE
and I rarely see Greater that 40% processor utilisation
