Maximum # of TS Sessions and Printer Redirection
Hi,
We have a client who has been using SBS 2000 with 4 Clients on the LAN and 2
remote sites who login remotely using Remote Desktop Connections and redirect
their printers to the local printer at the remote sites. Printer redirection
for RD sessions had been working just fine.
They have recently added a third machine at a third site which has a Dell
922 All-in-one as the local printer connected via USB and they are having
printing issues which affect all remote sites.
Not only does the Dell printer not work but it also appears to
corrupt/displace the port assignments for the printers on existing two
original sites.
The host server has USB ports and we have installed the drivers for the Dell
AIO922 onto the SBS2K.
When we look at the port assignments for the original remote printers the
TS001 and TS002 ports which originally had Epson and HP printers assigned now
have the Dell printer assigned.
Reading other posts in the forum we suspect that either they are exceeding
the number of TS/RDP clients allowed or the number of printer redirections
supported by SBS 2k.
Please can somebody confirm or shed some light and perhaps suggest a fix.
Please ask for any additional info that you require and we will provide by
return.
Thanks in advance

SBS and ISA problem
I have a office that has SBS 2000 and it runs ISA server. I am not too
familiar with ISA server and I have an issue with a Cisco VPN. It appears
that all the necessary ports are open for teh Cisco VPN but yet it still
won't connect. When I take the internet connection (business Cable service)
and take it right to the workstaion teh connection works just fine however,
when I put it back thru the server I can' connect. Is there a way to see
what ports are getting blocked on the way out so I can figure out where teh
problem is?? Like I mentioned before, it appears that all the ports are
setup corectly in the ISA erver. Is there something else I should be looking
at? Anyhelp is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

SBS2000 Problem am so stumped rev 2
Hi Everyone
About a month ago I posted this message up here and many of you were very
helpful i tried the following
removing the following updates 883939, 890046, 896358, 89642
I can't seem to be able to install anything.
I've looked at my anti virus software.
I'm really stuck can any body help further.
cheers Peter
Am totally stumped on this one.
Our office has a 10 workstations connected to a Server running SBS2000 up to
date with all service packs.
The workstations log on to the server ok and applications on the
workstations are all ok.
The problem we're having is with the server and login on.
If you log on as administrator, it's really slow to execute applications,
when you try to browse the program files or winnt folder the system locks
up.
I had created another user to use the server, when login on using this user
it gets to a point on the desktop then just sits there and doesn't do
anything.
I have looked at the event log and there does not seem to be a problem.
Have run in safe mode and it works ok.
Anyone got any ideas at all

This wasnt a problem until recently but I am unable to see what is causing it.

Exchange problem after upgrade to SBS 2000
OK, I didn't do my usual approach of just backing up the data and running
a clean install from SBS 4.5 to SBS 2000. I haven't had to do this for a few
years, but since this customer is/was/still is so far behind the times, I
ran just the upgrade. It went fine. The system is up and functional, all
except for the mapi logins for exchange. I am getting a event 9175 every min
or so. If I try to go in to the systems manager and look at the exchange
stores, it shows the private and public stores down. Yet the "M" drive is
there. The public and MDX folders are there. I can do a
http://%servername%/exchange and get right into the users mailboxes. I can
send mail, receive mail etc. So it would appear that the exchange server is
operational. If I try to open outlook, You know, I get the store cannot be
opened. Permissions are correct everywhere that I can see. All of the
exchange services start AOK without errors and are logging in as the local
system account. It would appear to be an account or login issue to me, but I
am at my wits end with this one. HELP!...Anyone ever seen this one? or if
not do you have a work around?

Slow web sites
Hi all,
We have an SBS2K server which all appears to be working beautifully.
However, over the last few weeks 1 particular web site (ebay.co.uk!) more
often than not takes ages to download, quite often with page errors, or
just
wont download at all. I cant find any other site that has this problem.
This is being experienced on all the PCs on the network and in addition
they
are all kept clean with various anti spy/malware programs.
The server has 2 adapters. One for LAN & the other for ADSL via a router.
It
is fully patched as of about 3 weeks ago.
I would generally just assume that the site, or the route to it, is
experiencing some problems however, if a standalone PC is plugged directly
into the router at the same time as the server then this PC has no problem
accessing the site at the exact same time that a network PC is struggling
to
get the pages.
I have rebooted the server & deleted the contents of c:/urlcache. Beyond
that, being no expert, I am stumped. Can anyone suggest what might be
causing this?
Thanks

Sharing a SBS2000 DVD drive
I am unable to access a shared server DVD drive from an XP2 client.
I shared the server DVD drive in the normal way (to everyone). The XP2
client can see & use other DVD drives on other clients on the network.
But if I try and access the server DVD I get a "\\server\DVD is not
accessible ... " message when I try and open the drive. The XP2 client
can see the drive and examine properties - but not the contents.
It will also allow me to map the drive on the client - but again not
access it!
Is this a SBS2k 'feature'?

IP Conflict Win 2000SBS
Had a major power failure yesterday server shutdown OK by APC workstation
died.
Windows 2000SBS with 10 workstations running Win 2000. Vigor Router on
second NIC to internet.
When I restarted everything Server initially seemed OK but workstations very
slow connecting, no internet and printer not connecting.
I then found that the server was showing IP conflict error with 10.0.0.1
which is Local network NIC. I could find no conflicts, all workstations are
dynamic and above 10.0.0.10. I reconfigured router just in case its DHCP
had be turned on and this was conflicting with server.
This did not resolve anything everything still very slow and repeatedly get
IP conflict error

SBS2k, no ISA, slow logon
All,
New site to me with SBS2k. - Tidy install, not a lot going on, file and
print mainly.
It appears to have been setup by someone who did not know SBS..
Workstations(WS) connect through a DSL router to the outside world for
Internet, and POP email.. WS are XP Pro, and logon to domain, but S L O
W L Y.
ISA is not configured. I have put a 'new' XP machine in, and set it as
the others. This machine is a little quicker, but comes up with other
errors/messages whilst logging on to the domain. - I think these give
things away. Also, the event logs are very quite on the SBS.
Workstations have static IP's and the DNS IP's are set to those of the
ISP.
The WS I put in comes up with a .NET passport message, and says it is
connected to the Internet whilst booting/logging on (sorry, not sure
which, was working until 1am) :-(
I think all the WS are having to go to the ISP for DNS lookup, and this
is what is slowing matters down.
They Client has obviously had issues with their present supplier, who
has not been able to resolve this problem.
They want as little as possible doing (initially, until a relationship
between myself and them is built up) to resolve this issue.
Any pointers, or online resources, to sort DNS Please?
Initially;
1. I would like to get the error logs working properly. - Is there a way
to reset the lot to 'default' logging?
2. Resolve the slow logon problem. - Set up local DNS, if this is an
issue.
Once I am happy, and the machines connect / logon more quickly, I will
be able to look into sorting SBS and ISA to work properly. The Client,
as stated, wants as little as possible doing. - They have told me that
they are unhappy with present support etc. But do not want a series of
people 'fiddling' too much. If I can go back and improve the above, then
I will get the Client.. If not they try someone else.
Refreshing to have a candid Client who tells it like it is!
All pointers/suggestions gratefully received.

Phil Partridge

Server hard disk complete/Ghost copy....
We were, in-house, discussing backups of the entire hard disk on our server
and it
was suggested that over and above our Dat tape backups we could Ghost a copy
of
the servers hard disk, say weekly. (From this you may deduce we have had
hassles with Dat tape restores in the past.).
If we adopt such backups it was also suggested that if we use hard disks of
differing capacities eg originals say, Maxtors 80gb, it was important we used
the same manufacturer and size of hard disks (the latter may be difficult as
time passes), otherwise SBS MAY recognise it as different/new hardware and
give a few hassles upon booting up ?????
Could anyone advise us please what the outcome of the above would be.
Thanks for any help. Bob

sender mail address must correspond to local mail domain (#5.7.1)
Last time I asked for help on this question I got SBS2003 replies. I'm using
SBS2000.
For some reason our SBS2000 Exchange is trying to send email it shouldn't.
The problem occurs if an external source sends an email addressed to one of
my users (collected by the SBS Pop3 connector) AND other external addresses.
The server collects my user's copy of it, delivers it to their box, and trys
to send it to the other external addresses!!! It of course fails as relaying
is disabled, and so sends out NDRs.... Fortunatly I have configued it so only
I get NDRs and not the sender.
Example NDR:
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
tony@externalemail.co.uk on 22/03/2005 10:46
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's
email server. Please contact your system administrator.
<XXX.XXX.local #5.5.0 smtp;554 sorry, sender mail address must
correspond to local mail domain (#5.7.1)>
I've no idea why this started happening, it did go away at one point before
returning, nothing changed as far as i'm aware.
And yes i'd love to use smtp but I am unable to forward the necessary ports
at the moment.

Moving Client Apps Folder Help!

what should I charge for some side SBS work?
What kind of range is acceptable to charge a client for consulting
work with SBS? I don't want to give it away and I don't want to scare
the potential customer off by asking for something outrageous.
If anyone here would like to share that info I would be most grateful.

NTBackup on SBS2000
Hi,
Having prob with SBS 2000 backup to tape. Every time a scheduled backup runs
the backup starts and appears to work - however when I look at the log file
the next day it will invariably stop mid line eg:
---------------------------------------
Warning: The file \WINNT\system32\wbem\Logs\NTEVT.log in use - skipped.
Warning: The file \WINNT\system32\wbem\Logs\WBEMSNMP.log in use - skipped.
Warning: The file \WINNT\system
---------------------------------------
after running a bit (up to 3 hours) the log just stops. Does this mean the
backup did not work and how can I fix it?

Back-up Server
Having had a problem with a failed disk I am looking at how to deal with
disaster recovery, but not just the usual "keep off-site back-up" approach.
I am aware that SBS can only have one server running, but is it possible to
have an off-line replica server , perhaps using either a mirrored set of
disks that would be moved from the original server to the fall-back? I am
sure this is something that exercises many users thoughts? Any ideas

OT - Win2k prof
All,
Is there a way to install W2k Prof. over the top of an existing
installation?
You could do this in 9x if the OS had gone a little flaky.
Have a WS from the MD of a Client, and do not want to nuke his machine
if I can help it, but it is giving grief.. Almost nothing will run
without Run32dll falling over and 'whatever' closing. :-(
TIA,

STMP and 127.0.0.1
I've been noticing some spam getting relayed off the SMTP server. When
I look at the logs I see a lot of 127.0.0.1 address. I'm assuming that
something is telneting the SMTP server to send spam. How can I stop it
on SBS2k? Tag: Small Business Server 2000 Tag: 174747
Increasing the C: partition size on a SBS 2003 system
The default 12gb c: partion on this system is down to 2.5 gb. I'm still
finding files I can either remove or redirect but I have concern for the long
term space needs for this partition and want to increase it size. This is a
Dell Poweredge 2800 server w/ raid 1. Two phisical disks look like one to the
os. This logical drive is partitioned as c & d. The d partition has pleanty
orf space. If this were any other sys I would have already run Partition
Magic or Diskeeper and been done with it but I can't afford a mistake on this
server and modifying system partitions is not supported by Dell and risky
anyway.
Dell & MS both say the c: & d: partitions will have to be backed up and SBS
2003 re-installed with the backup applied in a specific manner allowing the
old application configurations to be inherited. This will allow, during the
beginning of the new install, the repartitioning of c: to a larger size.
Am I missing anything here? Anybody know a better way. This looks like a
full 8 hour night project if nothing goes wrong.
Additionally, how do you run SBS and all of its component system in a 12 gb
partition? I have redirected the docs & setting folders for all users, moved
the Exchange stores, moved the SQLServer db files and turned off volume
shadowing on c:.
I'm blown away there is not a straight forward approach to this.
Tnx,

Can i make the event log bigger?
I need to make the event log bigger so it doesn't stop recording. I receive
netlogon errors every two hours so the the system log fills up quite quickly.
In which this makes event viewer useless to trouble shoot other problems.
Can anyone help me out?
thanks

Upgrade from SBS 2003 STD with Action Pack CDs
I have a Dell server with a OEM SBS 2003 Standard pre-installed. I'm a

Fax client issues
Hey all,
Got a network that is mixed 2k and 2003 sbs. They want the workstations
upgraded to XP Pro but when doing the upgrade the shared fax client is still
installed and it will not let me uninstall. I've tried manually, tried the
microsoft tools, and putting the msi it's looking for on the server and
letting it do it.
It will not remove at all. Has anyone had this problem and if so how did
you get around it?
Thanks!!!!

SBS 2000 Exchange problem
Hi
We have a SBS2000 server which has been clean installed 5 days ago but we
are having problems when receiving emails that when they have been sent to
multiple email addresses (one of which is in our domain) they were getting
sent out again to the other addresses, we have since stopped the messages
relaying but now the senders have been receiving NDRs as they now don't have
access to relay.
How can we turn this off so that it just ignores all the other addresses as
they are not part of our organisation and doesn't try to send them back out
and also doesn't send out a failed delivery report?
Thanks in advance,
Chris Tag: Small Business Server 2000 Tag: 174721
Can't copy files from server to client when using remote desktop
I'm having a few problems with copying files to/from our SBS server
when using remote desktop even though I have ticked the 'disk drives'
box in the 'local resources, local devices' dialog box.
Where can I look to see what's causing the problem. It was working at
one point but I can't seem to get it to recently. Tag: Small Business Server 2000 Tag: 174719
