Hi

I'm running SBS2000 on a dual xeon 2ghz server with 1gb
ram and 2 x 36gb scsi hard drives, we have 9 client
computers and 2 of these are wireless. The software being
used is Sage Line 50, Exchange and Veritas + 1 of the
hard drives is used for all files and an Access database.
I have two problems which may be related

1. The client computers take anything from 45secs to
3mins to log in, but the wireless computers are almost
instant.

2. The performance count for free memory when rebooted
starts at approx 50% then over the space of approx
48hours reduces gradually to 1% free at which time the
whole network slows down.
Any ideas
Many thanks
Pete

Hi Pete,

I assume that you have 2 nics and that dns is *only* pointing to your
server-IP. The clients ipconfig/all also shows that everything is pointing
to the server-IP, right?
Are the clients on XP? Sometimes it helps to put those nics on anything but
autosense.
You might have a look at www.smallbizserver.net, SBS 2000, workstations, I
get an error when I save an Office file.

Exchange will take up a lot of free memory but it is upposed to give
it back.

How much free space on the partitions and what percent free?

How much virtual memory and on what partiton? Generally recommended at
1.5 times physical memory.

How large is the Exchange database and where is it?

As Marina mentions, post ipconfig/all from server and workstations.
Looking at workstation performance issues at the web sitecited can
solve some problems.

Their web site says you can buy Sage Line 50 at Staples so it should
not be a product loaded on the server. I assume that the server is
just holding files for the workstations. That should not cause any
performance issues.
