SBS/Exchange 2000 and Yahoo.com email problems
Suddenly about a month ago, we started having problems sending emails to
Yahoo.com addresses. These are typically followups to telephone inquiries
that we get. The intended recipients complained about never getting the
emails. We have had a few problems with Pacific Bell, AT&T, and SBC emails.
We are not having this problem with outbound emails to other domains.
I set up a test Yahoo email address and found out that test emails were
getting placed into the spam/bulk folder. I tracked a few lost emails
(through Exchange System Manager) and found that they were all delivered to
a Yahoo.com server, sometimes after a few hours of retries. My guess is that
Yahoo is falsely labelling our emails as suspected spam for some reason. My
further guess is that the Yahoo.com recipients do not know enough to look in
their spam folders and do not know enough to figure out if they told Yahoo
Mail to discard suspected spam rather than place it in their spam folder.
Our SBS 2000 server sends the emails directly under our domain name. We have
a fixed IP. I checked the IP against the spam blacklists and we were clean.
We have an SPF record and Google Mail says we pass the SPF test. We do not
have anything set up for DomainKeys -- I am not sure that we could with
SBS/Exchange 2000.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any solutions? Any ideas for
further diagnosis?
Thanks,
Joe M Tag: Shopping Deals Tag: 180137

It is no longer present in Active Directory, I think this has been removed a

would it need a complete rebuild and setup up the AD from scratch again? Its
not to much of a problem at the moment but in the future we probably will be
upgrading to SBS 2003 via a swing migration, but if the schema if faulty
then there is no point doing a swing as that will be corrupt too. Tag: Shopping Deals Tag: 180133
10061 - Connection refused OWA
Hi there,
I have an SBS 2000 with ISA and trying to configure so that OWA works. I had
it working fine then had to reun the ICW for another reason and now I am
getting the 10061 - Connection refused page. When I ran ICW, I selected to
use ISA packet filtering and ticked the boxes of all the services that I
wanted to allow though. This seemed to work OK although I had to add a custom
rule to allow internal clients out onto the net.
When I ra-ran the ICW today I made sure that I selected "do not change my
firewall config) so that nothing would change and yet I find myselg now not
able to connect again.
Am I missing something?
Thanks

Upgrading from SBS 2000 to SBS 2003 Suggestions
Hi there. I have a client who has purchased hardware and software for
upgrading our SBS. Does anyone have any overall advice about the
upgrade process? Since we are moving to new, more powerful hardware, I
think that there might be some issues.
I have heard of a "Swing" method.. I went to a site and they have the
process for sale. Wondering if that is a good idea or not.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

User cannot connect to Exchange 2000, using Outlook 2002
Hi there. I am posting this in the SBS200 forum hoping to get some
suggestions. Here is the issue:
We are running SBS 2000. Clients are using Outlook 2002. My client
VPN's into the environment and can access network shares no problem.
However, when he starts Outlook he cannot connect to the exchange

else has the same issue.
I have asked him to send over the exact errors, but he has not yet
done so.
Any idea's on what this guy did to his PC?

upgrading to SQL Server SP4

Upgrading the Analysis services to SP4 is a completely separate download. We
do not use analysis services at all. WOuld you recommend that I install SP4

installing the latest SQL Server service pack on SBS
We have Shavlik Netchk Protect ver 5.9 that allows you to use a remote SQL
Server DB for the backend. The product is much more robust when configured
this way.
Before configuring however, I need to upgrade our instance of SQL Server
installed on the SBS to at least SP3. A quick search tells me that the
latest SQL Server 2000 service pack is SP4.
When I looked at the MS documentation for the service pack, it did not list
Small Business Server 2000 in teh list of "supported operating systems".
Can someone confirm for me if it will be ok to download and install SP4 on
our Windows 2000 SBS machine?

Firewall Client/Proxy Server Question
We are using SBS2000 --with ISA Server 2000. We only have XP Clients.
Is there any reason to have both the Firewall Client and the Proxy
Server setting in Internet Explorer set to point to the ISA Server at
port 8080? Or, is the the Firewall Client alone sufficient for
Internet browsing? We think that setting the proxy setting is ony
necessary if for some reason (such as the OS or browser in use) the
Firewall Client cannot be installed.
As it is now, we have both. However, periodically, but very
infrequently, at random websites, the user is prompted for a username/
password for the Proxy Server. If we remove the proxy settings, the
prompts do not occur, but we sometimes get "page cannot be displayed"
or similar error. We are not sure why we are prompted as the same
webpage may or may not prompt the user?

Allowing FTP access for clients
Using SBS2000. Currently, all client PCs have the Firewall Client
software installed and the "use proxy" is checked in Internet options.
No clients can access any FTP sites but the server can. In order to
get the server to access an FTP site we added a Packet Filter to Allow
TCP on 20 Inbound and 21 Outbound. As we understand, we need a
Protocol Rule to allow the clients access, so we added one to Allow -
FTP-Any request. This did not work. What is a solution to this
problem?
Secondly, we have another SBS2000 set in another office without this
problem. In its ISA server config, there is not an FTP Protocol Rule.
However, in addtion to the "Allow FTP" packet filter, there are a
total of (4) Custom Filters "BackOffice FTP 20 In/Out" and BackOffice
FTP 21 In/Out" listed. What would be the difference?

How do I track a user's surfing habits?
Is there a way, on SBS2000, to track a specific user's Internet
browsing habits? I have one user that is taking advantage of our

their workstation). Or, is there a way to prevent them from covering
their tracks on their workstation (WinXP)? Tag: Shopping Deals Tag: 180066
Problem with Hosts file
I'm attempting to redirect a url by adding an entry in the hosts table.
Neither the SBS 2000 server nor workstations will resolve correctly and I
end up with the dns location.
This is confirmed if I ping the address by name; it goes to the dns address.
If I change the entry to 127.0.0.1 or even 0.0.0.0 then pinging by name does
reflect those values.
The entry works fine at home.
I have re-created the hosts file in notepad, flushed the dns and purged and
refreshed the remote cache.
I have also checked the resolving order in the registry.
Any thoughts please! Tag: Shopping Deals Tag: 180065

VPN not connecting ISA broken?
Hi All,
Scenario
Just got handed a set of SBS 2000 cds and a box and told 'build' whicj I
dutifully did.
All went well until I went to setup VPN. The router is all configured OK
with 1723 and 47 etc but still can't connect. Other services are getting
through fine.
I have 2 NICS. When I try and run RRAS and say 'make me a VPN server' it
kills the LAN but with it set as a LAN, VPN can't get in. I have set the LAN
NIC as the entry point in RRAS but this is where it gets weird.
Normally one would configure VPN through ISA server but there IS NO ISA
server to be found on the server. Nothing under Programs etc. Ther is a
reference in the Server admin console but when I click on it throws up an
error indicating that the Snap in can't be found, won't load etc.
So questions are:
Is ISA supposed to be installed as part of SBS 2000 and if so how can I go
about doing this after the fact?
Can I get the VPN to work anyway without bothering with ISA? ie. manual
config of RRAS and NICS
I have read heaps of stuff on the net including some posts that say use RRAS
and others that say turn it off to get VPN to work???
Thanks in advance

Installing the Exchange SYstem Management Tools
I want to install the Blackberry Enterprise Server software on our Win2K SBS
machine. One of the steps they want you to do is to install the Exchange
System Management tools on a dedicated management workstation - which would
be my XP machine.
Is there a way to get these tools either off of our SBS machine or from the
Win2K SBS installation disks or would my best bet be to download them from
the internet?
I typically manage all exchange stuff directly on the SBS machine but it
would be nice to manage it from my own machine instead...

SBS 2000 Terminal Service Licencing
Hello,
Currently I'm using a SBS 2000 sever with Terminal Services on it and
running in application mode. Since I need 5 users to connect to it. I was
wondering about the TS cals issue. I can currently connect 2
users/workstations to the TS server. The other 3 users can't connect. I was
wondering do I need to buy addition TS cals? The reason I ask is that I had
thought that SBS 2000 had included 5 remote access TS cals in its package.
Thanks in advance.

Releasing SBS2K licenses back to floppy
I am replacing the OS on a Win2KSBS server with Win2003, making it a member
server of the domain (I have already replaced the DC with a Win2003SBS DC,
demoted this Win2K SBS server, and physically isolated it from the network).
I have four SBS2000 CAL diskettes, and I recall reading that there is a way
to return the licenses to the floppies from the server , but that they have
to be done in reverse order - the last floppy first - but I cannot find
instructions on how to do it.
This is just so I have the licenses available in the unlikely case I need a
Win2K SBS somewhere else. I have not yet wiped out the OS on the old server,
but need to do it soon. Tag: Shopping Deals Tag: 180000

"The team at 1st Logo Design has provided us with precisely the logo
and corporate look we had envisioned. The fact that we are located on
the opposite side of the globe in Australia was by no means an
obstacle or hindrance in the design process.
1st Logo Design redefines the definition of customer service
excellence and in so doing, has set a new benchmark for all businesses
and companies, to "strive to achieve". So impressed was I, that we
fully intend to incorporate the positive experience we have had with
1st Logo Design, into our own training manual for new employees.
Finally, it would be remiss of me if I did not comment on the
steadfast honesty, integrity, patience and professionalism displayed

SBS 2K corrupt(?) mailboxes
All,
Is there a way to 'compress/re-index' a single mailbox in Exchange 2000?
Using POP to grab email into OE on a Client PC, and get many errors.
Also, on another PC (using Outlook 2000) there are some emails which
cause Outlook to lock-up/freeze if you try to delete them.. Even leaving
machine for a number of hours, it doesn't come back from egg-timer. Have
to Ctrl-Alt-Del out of it.
Have had (in recent past) problem of hitting 16GB limit, but Eseutil has
cured the problem. - Plus educating Users to NOT use Outlook as a file-
store for large attachments!
TIA,
Phil Partridge.

VPN Access with a new router
We have been using VPN without problem for about 4 years now. Recently our
DSL modem went on the fritz so we had Covad come in and they replaced it with
a new one (Netopia). While they were here I mentioned to them that we need
port 1723 open to allow VPN connections. The technician searched through all
the settings on the old modem and could not find anything specific for this
port. On the new modem he setup a port forwarding rule to send all VPN
traffic to the External NIC (192.168.1.2) on the SBS 2000 server. Much to
our dismay we are still unable to establish a VPN connection with this new
modem.
Is there anything else I need to tell Covad to configure on the new modem
that I missed? I don't have the password for the modem so Covad will make
the changes remotely.
Thank you,

terminal services disconnects
I have a SMB2000 providing a handfull of TS sessions to remote PCs. Has been
working great for 2 years. Now all TS connections are be dropped every 25-30
minutes like clockwork leaving nothing in eventlogs on server or PC. Users
only get "TS connection has been broken" pop up. No changes have been made
to the server. Scanned for virus and malware using Symantec Enterprize,
online Housecall and others but found no viruses. Local server and LAN
function is awsome with no hick-ups at all. Just the TS sessions over WAN.
There are 2 TS sessions operating on LAN with no problem. Fortigat and T1
have been refreshed and stress tested and showing no problems there. Does
anyone have other ideas on where to look next. I'm lost.

Send/Receive through pop3 SBS2000
I've got a customer who is trying to access their e-mail from home in the
evening via pop3. They can receive just fine but when they send a message
outside the SBS exchange environment (like to somebody@hotmail.com) they get
an immediate 5.7.1 error and there is nothing in the options area to see
where the email went. I googled a note that said that Exchange doesn't
support relaying to third party sites via pop3. Is that true?

Windows Advanced Server 2000 included in SBS 2000?
After plenty of unsuccessful attempts to search for these answers I have a
few questions regarding how a customer could have purchased a retail version
of Windows Advanced Server 2000?
1. Is Windows Advanced Server 2000 always a standalone product?
2. Did Windows Advanced Server 2000 ever come bundled with Small Business
Server 2000?
3. Can you provide any customer facing website links supporting your
responses?
Thank you!!

Strange Exchange configuration
I've recently taken over this account which apparently has had several
"experts" over the last 10 years. The customer at one time had sbs 4.5 with
a server name of server and an internal domain name of company, not
company.local, just company. For purposes of discussion, let's say their
public domain was company.com. They upgraded to SBS2000 in 2003.
Now in Exchange, there are two servers listed, one called server and we'll
call the other newserver. I cannot access server, when I click on it, I get
a time out. I can click on and configure newserver. However, I discovered
that server was setup as the master and I have changed that with newserver as
the master and server as a member. I have been unable to delete the old
server.
When I send mail, I get the normal SMTP connector. However I'm also getting
a strange remote mail listing under queues. The queue name is server.domain
(which is the old server name) and when I click on that, I get the sent from:
newserver-IS@company.com. There are several of these messages queued up and
if I delete them, more appear. I don't know who they are going to and I
can't read the message.
My questions are:
Is there any way to read the messages in queue so I can figure out what they
are?
What is the origin of messages with the from being newserver-IS? What does
the IS mean.
How can I delete the non-functioning listing of the old server in Exchange
2000.
y'all have been great. Thanks for your help.

OWA & migration from SBS2000 to Exchange 2003
Hello.
I've just discovered that something my client is trying to do is not
supported by MS, so am wondering if anyone has had any success with trying it.
Have an SBS2000 server from which Client wants to move all mailboxes to a
standalone Exchange 2003 server. We did that using the standard move utility
from Exchange 2003. All mailboxes were moved successfully and are working
fine, except OWA does not work from remote workstations to the Exch 2003 box,
regardless of what we do with the Exchange2000 SBS installation.
Has anyone tried this with any success? Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

Install error for SP1a
I've recently taken over an existing installation and am getting all the
patches and updates applied. It's a SBS2000. 2000 SP4 has been applied but
SBS2000 SP1 has not. I'm trying to install SP1a but I get the error message
that I need 125 meg of available space on the partition that has clientapps5
and the process aborts. I've got 400 gig of space available so what am I
doing wrong?
