    - XP Pro cannot browse network I have a client who's Xp Pro machines cannot browse the network when going to My Network Places.     - *Slightly OT* - SBS4.5 > SBS2k - Excel XP won't see workgroup templates? Hi again, Very weird one here. Had SBS4.5 - backed up all data - flattened server - clean install of SBS2k - restored data - shares with same names/locations created LAN clients running Office 2000 can use workgroup templates exactly as they could previously LAN clients running Office XP can use workgroup templates fine in Word but not in Excel - simply don't appear! Can browse to the relevant template files and open them directly OK however. Have even tried moving the template files to an entirely new folder with the shares being custom created so as to ensure that none of the 'old' security and/or access level permissions of the 'previous' server were copied across. Then used login script to map a network drive to this new folder. Pointed the Options/General tab in Excel to have the 'At statup, open all files in:' entry pointing to this new mapped drive. No change. Starting to pull hair out. Settings are identical on both the Office 2k and Office XP Excel clients but the XP ones simply won't use the workgroup templates. The Excel XP clients are new - all clients were Office 2k before SBS upgrade... Anyone got any bright ideas?     - VPN Fails - Wipe & Reload Server? As per previous threads, I cannot get VPN to work. I can make the connection to the server (authenticates OK), but then cannot see any folders, run any programs, etc. The same thing happens connecting to the internal LAN via VPN. I've tried everything I can find: worked through the knowledge reviews referred to me by this newsgroup, still can't find anything amis. There must be some hidden conflict in my settings somewhere which isn't being fixed by following the KBs, and other advice given here. To avoid a complete wipe (which seems a bit drastic), what parts of the server should I delete and reload to ensure any conflicts are deleted and reset back to the default. Presumably this needs to include ISA server, RRAS, WINS, DNS, NICs, etc (by which time have I effectively deleted the main bits of the server?     - Host-A record pointing to unknown IP address I open my DNS server properties and check under "Forward Lookup Zones" to view the Host-A records. Everything looks normal, I can see the computer names and their IP addresses, several Host-A records are named "same as parent folder", one is pointing to the external NIC, the other is the internal NIC, but here's where I'm confused, one with the name "same as parent folder" has the IP address 192.168.16.200. When I ping-a 192.168.16.200 it says it's the Small Business server (which makes sense since this is where the Host-A record is pointing, problem is I can't find anything on the SBS that is using this address.     - Group Policy I have been playing with Group Policies and I have noticed that there are hundreds of options to tweak. Is there a link to a website somewhere that explains all of the terminology for each setting and which to use in a typical networked environment - where the clients are given limited rights to their machine - i.e. they can only use their machines and applications, but cannot open the CD-ROM drive, open Control Panel, change the Desktop, or plug in USB pen drives or Add/Remove Programs?? In SBS Admin Console, I can right click on a machine on the domain (client), click Manage...and I can basically see their credentials as if I fired off Control Panel>Computer Management. I want to rename the Administrator (local Admin) on each client and set a new password for the renamed Local Admin. Is it as simple as r-click the Administrator user, rename, then set new password for him? Also, I saw an article on the web that suggested disabling the Guest account. What is the Guest account???     - VPN and TS problems One acount has a sbs on the 192.168.15.x network. They could not VPN out from a workstation until I set up their server to accept incoming vpn connection by running the RRAS vpn setup. Now that does not make sense to me. The frustration is that they can VPN to an account but they cannot ts to the servers private ip. When the vpn connection is running they can rdp to an exteranl real world ip on other servers. I have not tested this situation on my SBS to see if it is something special on their SBS install. Jim B. When viewing properties of a service the following error occurs : Configuration Manager: The specified device instance handle does not correspond to a present device. The services in question are : Seagate Page Server and Seagate Web Component Server These are part of the Seagate Crystal Reports 8.0 installation. The Seagate Web Services run on IIS which is also installed. The services "Path to executable" are the folowing : C:\Program Files\Seagate Software\WCS\pageserver.exe -service -cache C:\Program Files\Seagate Software\WCS\WebCompServer.exe -service and they are in fact correct.     - Proxy Problems I have a client who has been purchased by a larger organization. My client has a SBS 2000 server up in a 2 NIC arrangement with ISA installed in the standard way. When they are visited by representatives from the new owners, the reps want to check their e-mail at the corporate office via OWA. When they try to log into their server (the corporate one, not the local one), they are prompted with the normal OWA log in box where they enter their username, password and domain. I can see that the server they are attempting to log on to is the corporate one (the name of the server is listed at the top of the box). The problem is that after they click OK to log in, they just keep getting presented with the log in box again. In the background we can see OWA loading and the screen being populated by the mail, be can't get to it because of the log in box. I believe ISA is blocking access to their OWA.     - IPSEC help with ISA - anybody have success? I am working with a large multinational that requires I access their site by passing IPSEC traffic. I was unable to get this working through ISA - so I've dropped ISA for now and am using a LinkSYS hardware firewall. This obviously does not provide the same benefits of ISA. Everyone else is a mix from 98, 2000, to XP PRO. The server is SBS 2000.     - Symantec Corporate 8 clients not in server list I know this isn't a Symantec group, but hopefully you can help me with this Symantec "Small Business Version" question. Does anyone here know why I can't get the full list of computers on my network to show up in the Symantec System Center list. Out of 8 machines on the network, only 3 show up.     - Default 'Outgoing' EMail Addresses Hi all, SBS2000 installed at the weekend - all went nice and smoothly, so starting off OK [for once!] - strange query here - kind of a 'how to'... When setting up our users, I opted for the same login config as we'd had previously on SBS4.5 - namely InitialSurname01 as their username. That's all fine and thereafter once we'd done them all we went in and added the range of other email addresses we wanted to arrive at each user's mailbox also. Again, fine and dandy. Problem is really with regards outgoing mail addresses. I've tried setting firstname.surname@company.co.uk as the primary but this keeps getting immediately [or thereabouts] with initialsurname@company.co.uk Only thing I can think of is that this is being overwritten by the tick in the box for 'Automatically update email addresses based on recipient policy' on the same tab. When we go into Exchange System Manager and look at the default recipient policy it *appears* to offer only the option of setting the SMTP type as @company.co.uk [which I presume is causing the email addresses to be automatically updated as login_username@company.co.uk] - are there any settings either in here [kind of a fields thing - you know <firstname><surname>@company.co.uk] or anything anywhere else that we could set to resolve this? Or do we have to amend all the logins for all the users [which no doubt will mean chaos with the profiles etc on all our XP Pro clients] :-( Anyone got any bright ideas?     - SPAM - Changing email addresses Hello All, One of my clients is having trouble with spam. I think much of it may be due to the email addresses having been published on their website and that their email server was being used as an open relay before I came on. I stopped both of those and installed GFI to try to filter. It has gotten a better, but it is still pretty bad. I am wondering what are the necessary steps to change email handles from, for example, BobA@thecompany.com to bob.bobslastname@thecompany.com. I am not wondering so much the exact steps to do this as I believe that is straight-forward, but rather, is there a way to allow the user to check old and new accounts separately for a period of time.     - ADSL and ISA take 2 Last week we installed ADSL (Speedtouch 510,ISP is Demon). We have one IP for the router and one for the 2nd NIC in the SBS server. I ran ICW and got internet connectivity but my ISP could not telnet to port 25 for email. I could telnet from the internal network but not from a remote pc. I had to rerun ICW to get back to my ISDN router (again on the second NIC).     - rebuild AD and get exchange working Hi all, need a bit of help with a situation. using sbs2000 with AD (about 15 users) and exchange 2000. if i had xmerged the exchange information and removed my sbs2000 system disk (exchaneg is on another drive) and then installed a new drive and installed sbs2003 on it, how much trouble would i have creating AD users again? i cant imagien it will take that long and i could weed out the permision issues/ group policys later on..so thats not to bad, but here is my main question, once sbs2003 is installed and i exmerge all my 2000 data in exchaneg 2003 how would i tell exchange what AD users use what mailbox so they can have their mail again ... is such a thing possible?     - Sbs 2000 upgrade problem. Hi everyone, I have a SBS 4.5 on site and want to upgrade SBS2000 now. I tried to follow the white paper from microsoft that how to upgrade a brand new server to SBS 2000. I have a old server runs SBS 4.5 and I have a new dell server install SBS 2000 with workgroup now. My frist question is when I join the new server to the domain now, and since the MS white paper said it should join my new server with workgroup, so I can transfer all of the data from my old server to the new one such as the pri.edb and pub .edb by exmerge. However, if I runs the Exchange 2000 with my SBS 2000 which already have Active dirctory install, then how can my new server join the domain with workgroup then?? Second, since my new server runs AD now, but somehow I want to change my server name to other, can I run dcpromo.exe from SBS 2000 like Windows 2000 server does?? Thank you for all advice.     - SMTP Problem with exchange Hi All We have a problem that I hope some one can help me with?. We have sbs2000 with 2 nic one to the LAN on which we have a router to 64k ISDN the other is disabled now till we move office for ADSL. 1st problem exchange is downloading up to 40 pop boxes & I need to setup exchange to receive the mail directly from our ISP i.e. our ISP forwards all mail to our server. 1,a can any one let me know how to setup the server for this type of mail delivery or post a link to relevant Tec info i.e. what ip address do I need to give to our ISP for mail delivery? 2nd or exchange server keeps sending email delay reports to the sender i.e. our office workstations and dose not send the email blank or with an attachment. to the recipients?. in exchange manager when you click on servers it pop up with an error about SMTP relay not available?.     - other emial domain (not via exchange) Hi, My boss decided to start another company and now we have 2 new people working in our domain, not using exchange (nor outlook), but using a hosted POP3 server and an external SMTP server we own and manage. Using outlook express I get 550 "unable to relay.." errors while the SMTP server (that requieres authentication) is correctly configured. When I use a dialup and the modem it works fine. Also when I go through the hassle of reconfiguring IP and connect the laptop directly to the ADSL router. What does ISA do, so I cannot send email using authentication? I can ping the server... Also, when I use the full outlook client, I disable the exchange service and only have internet email, configure the accounts, the error when sending messages looks exactly the same as an exchange NDR. Therefor I suspect that exchange picks up the message and tries to relay it, while stripping the user credentials.... Help! I have an error when trying to download files: Problem connecting to tracker - HTTP Error 407: Proxy Authentication Required (The ISA Server requires authorization to fulfill the request. It used to work well when I connect with only the "Connect and Download" tab details configured (i.e. log in name and password to my ISP's POP3 server). Does anyone know of a guide or link that will explain, how
to have 2x 2000 Servers share one Active Directory?

I have one 2000 server, that has an activedirectory
already, and the second server I'm building i would like
to sync upto this server.

The end result being: I install exchange 2000 on the
second server, allowing me to configure all my users in AD
with email addresses!

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

You can install the second server as a domain controller and the =
replication is pretty automatic of AD information
When you install the second server you simply choose the roll it will =
play in the domain.

Just as FYI this particular NG is not for users of regular win2k but =
rather a specific version called Small Business Server which has =
Exchange as well as a couple of other programs built into it

Does anyone know of a guide or link that will explain, how=20
to have 2x 2000 Servers share one Active Directory?

I have one 2000 server, that has an activedirectory=20
already, and the second server I'm building i would like=20
to sync upto this server.

The end result being: I install exchange 2000 on the=20
second server, allowing me to configure all my users in AD=20
with email addresses!

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
