 - VPN Connection to SBS2000 Possible? I'm trying to configure a Linksys VPN router to initiate a VPN connection into my SBS2000 server, via RRAS, in order to connect a remote office (3 PC's) Is this type of setup possible using SBS2000 and if so how do i configure the VPN router tunnel encryption and authentication methods?  - VPN Connection from remote office - Possible? I'm trying to configure a Linksys WRV54G VPN Router located in a remote office to connect to my SBS2000 server / network via RRAS using a VPN conenction. Is this type of setup possible using SBS2000? There are several PC's in the remote office all needing connection to the SBS server, i've used the MS PPTP previously to conect a single PC to SBS but this does not seem practical for multiple computers.  - XP Pro misaligned print outs. As we are rolling out XP Pro and replacing Windows 98, printing to labels and forms are getting out of alignment. Both networks are SBS 2000, but I doubt it is a network issue, probably something weird about XP Different apps and printers are doing the same thing, everything was fine in Windows 98, now with XP extra blank lines are inserted throwing off the alignment on labels and forms. Even printing to a file with the generic/text only printer gives misalligned results. The printers are both tractor fed dot matrix, one is a panasonic the other is an oki.  - Off Line File Folder Problem I have a SBS 2003 install, users with laptops running WinXP. The all have a folder on the server that is set up for Off Line file use. Most all files seem to work fine, they go away and make changes and the changes end up on the server. However, they produce Power Point Slide shows that have 50 Plus photos. If the photos are in the Offline Folder and they work disconnected from the network, the Power Point file never saves. The same file produced on the network will save. If we put the Photos on the local disk of the laptop, The same file will save when disconnected from the network. Also: If you make the powerpoint file from the local copy of the photos (while connected to the network and then disconnect), you can save the powerpoint file to the offline folder to the original name without a problem. But you cannot "Save as" this will hang up and never save. Any suggestions on correcting this behavior? I would like all of their files avaliabl in Off Line folders.  - webDAV in sbs 2003 Hello all, We have a fresh installation of SBS 2003 premium. A w2k3 member server runs our public web sites (this is not the http://companyweb on the SBS box). We use host headers to identify the sites. On one of the web sites, I am trying to set up webDAV. I have enabled the webDAV extensions in IIS. I can browse to the site and the virtual directory without a problem. It uses Windows integrated authentication and that seems to work. When I try to add this as a web folder in "my network places",from a client machine, it asks for my username and password endlessly without ever allowing me to connect to the site. If ISA server can pass my credentials while browsing to this site, why can't I add it as a web folder? Does anybody have any thoughts? Thanks in advance.  - RRAS I have SBS2003 setup and have only one NIC. I am using serion modems and I have setup an advanced connection to allow remote access via one of the modems.  - Exchange 16Gig Limit soon approaching I have a SBS 2k environment. My questions are about the exchange application, I know that there is a limitation of 16 gig of information total and that the *.edb and the *.stm files are combine to equal this amount. So what I currently have it a *.edb of 5.8 gigs and a *.stm of 7.6 for a total of approx 14 gigs. So I am not in critical mode just yet but I do have questions about reducing the file size or maybe moving them. I run the eseutil /d on a monthly basis to recapture wasted space and run daily backups. But I have noticed that the total amount of mail in mb listed in the Exchange System Mangager, ( the sum of all mailboxes ) is 3.6 gigs of mail. t This is the confusing part, since the Exchange System manager shows a cumlative total of all mailboxes of 3.6 gig, and the priv1.edb shows a total of 5.8 and the *.stm is 7.6 how can that be explained? Is there something I am missing in recapturing my space or some utility that will more accurately report information on my databases? All experience, suggestion, inquiries and solutions welcomed.  - Can I create a symbolic link in SBS when I move a folder? I have a shared folder on a SBS 2000 server that everyone maps to. I want to move that folder to a 2003 server. Is there a way I can create a symbolic link so when people try to go to the old share path it is autmoaticcly redirected to the new path? I've already set up a log in script to automaticcly remap the drive letter to the new path. Some people have a shortcut to the old location on their desktop.  - Exchange Info Store Corruption (Update) Hello, SBS2K. On March 3rd, I submitted a post about possible corruption in my Exchange database. Basically, I moved the database to a new SCSI drive I purchased and install. The move went well and the users had no problems with their mailboxes, but when I checked the backup log after the first backup, I noticed the following error: WARNING: Portions of "\Mailbox Store (HI-SERVER)" cannot be read. The backed up data is corrupt or incomplete. This file will not restore correctly. After some research and some outside help (thanks Dave), I discovered 474 errors. Also, ntbackup will not allow me to restore the database from the backup. When you look on support for error 474, you come up with the following articles: XADM: Event ID 474 Error Indicates a Hardware Failure http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;327334 XADM: Extensible Storage Engine Event IDs 474 and 477 Are Logged When You Try to Back Up the Information Store Database http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;810411 Both of these articles eluded to a hardware problem with the drive. I called tech support for Maxtor and was told that one possibility is that I needed a twisted (if that is the correct term) cable. That said, I am going to purchase the cable. Until I can get the cable in and installed, I have moved the Exchange back to the original drive it was on. It is still corrupted according to the backup log, and I continue to log 474 errors. When I was reading the article, I was looking for the "State" line to say something to the effect of 'consistent' because that's what the article refers to. When I received 'State: Clean Shutdown', I didn't know what that meant, but I know that it doesn't sound corrupt to me. That said, where do I go from here? Should I begin following the other steps in the article? I haven't because I am not sure if the results from the first command tell me to not run any of the recovery options. The users can still access their mailboxes and nothing appears to be wrong at their end, but I cannot back up the databases and that is not a good thing. Also to note, if I go to the folder that houses the priv1.ebd file, I see log files which, according to their modified date, go all the way back to the day I originally installed the new disk and moved the database starting all this mess. I am not sure if that is relevant, but I figured I would mention it. If nothing works, I may have to call PSS (another result of Dave's help) which is not a problem, but I figure there may be a way around this that someone would know if I provided the correct information and enough of it. ISA Management, Servers and Arrays, <Server>, Extensions, Application Filters, SMTP Filter, Users / Domains (tab). and in the Rejected Domains bit, I have entries like: .ar .cn .cz .kr .ru etc but none of them are working. I'm still getting email from those domains. Why ???  - Outlook XP Account I have set up 2 accoounts in my Outlook XP 1) Exchange Server 2) an Internet Email account from ISP (e.g. smtp.mail.yahoo.com, pop.mail.yahoo.com) I set the Inertnet Email as the default account. However, when I click reply on the email received from the Exchange Server account, the email is not sent by Internet Email account. can I send email by the Internet Email account for all emails (Automatically, without choosing the "Account Tab", even when replying the email from the Exchange Account?  - SBS 2003 with Application Server BCM I have a SBS 2003 Installation with an added application server. I installed the Business Contact Manager Update to Outlook 2003 on the app server. When I attempt to run outlook off the application server, I am informed that BCM will not work on profile and needs SBS.  - Seeing secure faxes from Share fax Hi there, I thought I was being very smart by configuring one of our fax lines for accounting/purchasing (secured data) and routing this to a separate Exchange Public Folder with specific permissions. To my horror, I've just discovered that all staff can still view the incoming fax from this secured line by double clicking the Shared Fax icon in Printers & Faxes. Updates installed fine and server restarted and came up fine. Only problem, the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service as been on Start pending for quite some time now.  - Mirroring hard drives Please can someone help me. I have a 2000 server running which has no mirrors or raid array. It has 2 36Gb hard drives, 1 is partioned (10 and a 26 ). I need to mirror these hard drives but can't get to the add mirror click as it is greyed out. How do I, can I mirror these partitions? If i need to reformat the 1st hdd I will but would rather not.  - is it possible to log into 2 SBS servers (please read before answering) Hi I have a server that is set to dual boot between a standard SBS2k (with a standard Citrix farm installed) and a default SBS2k install. Is it possible for a client machine to be set to log into BOTH servers. I know a SBS client can only log in to ONE SBS2k server. I currently have a Server running SBS2k with Citrix installed in our training offices (separate network from our main "production" SBS server). I would like to dual boot into a Basic Default SBS2k server and have the training machines log into that as well. Notes: one SBS2k (+10 user licence) with the Citrix installed is a legit bought copy which is only getting used for training and the other licence is one we have recived in our MSDN subscription (For development use only). The default SBS2k install has been installed but not used at present. We need would like server to have the option to boot between them and be accessd by the client machines for software development and testing. The "SBS2k Citrix" Server is also for Inhouse and client training when required but it is sitting idol for most of the time. Just wondering if it is possible?  - Deleted Mail Returning to Inbox Hi All, Apologies if this issue has already been threaded. Had to sort out a misconfigured SBS2K installation on Tue, Boss at Site A had been set up with Outlook accessing his mail account directly via a POP account (!) I disabled this account and set up an Outlook Exchange account. Well! All his deleted mail came spewing back into his inbox! As fast as he deleted it it all came back again. As a temp measure just went back to the non-standard config. (sigh.) Then today, Boss at site B (what is it with bosses these days) - who has been set up correctly - rang and reported the same issue!  - Using XCopy to Move Files to a New Drive in the Server Hello, SBS2k. I bought and installed two SCSI drives into my server yesterday to add to the single drive I had in the server before to make a total of three. I decided to move the SQL databases and Exchange databases to one drive and the User Shared Folders and Company Shared Folders, as well as my roaming user profile folders, to the third drive. The transfer of the SQL databases went okay. Exchange also went okay, or so I thought until I did a backup and it is telling me the file may be corrupt, but that is a different post in this group. The problem I am referring to here is when I tried to transfer the files to the new drive. I have three sets of files to transfer: C:\Users Shared Folders C:\Company Shared Folders C:\Users Profile Folders The users shared and company shared folders are pretty evident. They are the ones installed by SBS setup. The third folder, users profile folders, is another folder I created on the C: drive to hold the Roaming User Profiles for each of my users. The problem is that when I try to xcopy the Users Shared Folders over, it begins to work and copies the Administrator shared folder (the first one), but when it gets to the first user (AFoy), it created the folder, copies the first two files (one being a Power Point doc and the other, the desktop.ini file), then I get an 'Access Denied' message. Then, when I go to xcopy the Users Profile Folders over, nothing is copied (there is not Administrator roaming user profile) and I receive the following message: Access denied Unable to create directory - F:\Users Profile Folders\AFoy On the Company Shared Folders, the xcopy command works well and copies the files with the appropriate permissions. The problem is that in the past, I have moved users shared files and folders (users no longer here) to a folder called 'Old Files' in the Company folder and when the xcopy command gets to those folders, I get the same permissions problem message. I am sure the reason it is not working is the same reason the Users Shared and Users Profile xcopies are not working. I know that it is some sort of permissions thing. I need the permissions changed just long enough to copy the files over. I don't want access to these people's files and I really don't want to. Any ideas on how I get these files moved using xcopy? On the subject of moving all these files to the other drive, I have one more question. XCopy seems to do a good job copying to the new drive retaining permissions, but of course shares are a different story. To complete the process of the move, after the xcopy, do you just delete the share on the C drive and recreate it, with the same permissions, on the new drive? The reason I ask is because I have lots of shared folders within the files I am moving (in the company folder, plus, all the files I have set up for caching on local laptops) and want to make sure that no user maps are lost in the process.  - Exchange Information Store Corruption Hello, SBS2000. Last night, I moved my EDB and STM files for both my Mailbox Store and Public Store to another drive on my server by following the directions in the following articles (they all say essentially the same thing): http://www.msexchange.org/pages/article_p.asp?id=535 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=270693 http://www.smallbizserver.net/Default.aspx?tabid=76 I did not move the transaction logs because the MSExchange.org article eluded that they should not be on the same drive. That said, I left the transaction log location alone and only moved the databases. Anyway, the move went well. All users can get into their mailboxes without a problem, but when I checked the log from last night's backup, I received the following message: WARNING: Portions of "\Mailbox Store (HI-SERVER)" cannot be read. The backed up data is corrupt or incomplete. This file will not restore correctly. This makes me very nervous. Does anyone have any idea of what's wrong here? Any help would be most appreciated.  - Vanishing Emails using pop3 connecter Hi Just a remark using POP3 connector with SBS 2003. There seem to be an issue with vanishing emails: - You have set up POP3 connector using individual mailbox accounts - No messages are delivered to the Exchange mail boxes, but all messages were downloaded from ISP POP3 accounts. Email will vanish if the delivery-to address of the email is not found in the Exchange mail addresses. We had setup an ISP mailbox wwwinfo@xxx.yyy, but not entered that address into any exchange account. No messages were delivered to ANY user account. After we have setup a distribution group, everything was fine again. I hope this solves some of the users trouble.  - POP3 Connector fails to start Hi, One of our clients are running Windows 2000 Small Business Server, their mails are retrieved from a POP3 box every 15mins, as of yesterday the POP3 Connector Service has faild to start. I have tried a reboot, and when the server comes back up i get the "One or more system services failed to start". In the SBS Admin console at the bottom it shows the service as stopped, when i try to start it in either the administrator console or the services console i get the following error; Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7031 Date: 01/03/2005 Time: 10:10:03 User: N/A Computer: LORD-SERVER Description: The Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes service terminated unexpectedly. And when i try it start it from the services console i get the following; Could not start the Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes service on Local Computer.  - Delayed mail I am having a problem with mail sending in SBS2K. I send mail to India and Singapore and I don't get the delivered reciept for over a WEEK. This is also when the customer recieves the email. I sent 3 emails between 2/15/05 and 2/22/05 and all 3 were actually delivered on the same day, 3/1/05. It appears that all mail going out of the US is several days late. It does not appear to happen with email in the US. Where can I check to see if they left my exchange server on time? Although much of the question is hardware related, I imagine those here would be able to help me at least with the software portion of my question. I couldn't find a NG for MS Server 2k3... The following information is all being asked in reference to a MS Access Database that will be run in-house only. Thanks for any help. I work for a relatively small business, and we are setting up a server specifically for the purpose of storing and protecting our main company information database. This is to be accessible only within the office (so no remote management needed), and I had a couple of questions, as I'm relatively new to the world of server hardware and software. We will have 1-25 (probably no more than 10 at most times) accessing the database via a fronted placed on each user's system. What sort of processing power will it take to run this? 1GB Ram? Less? More? Second, we will be purchasing MS Server 2k3 to run this. Are there any specific advantages/disadvantages to using MS SB Server vs. MS Server? I've noticed that MS Server Standard is more expensive then MS SB Server, but that the additional CALs for SB Server are much more expensive. Finally, I would like to implement a RAID solution, as I understand that means we generate a 'mirror' of the data for both system stability and backup reasons. However, I don't know what sort of 'controller' I need. The system I was looking at here at Dell didn't offer a controller that was compatible, so I had to choose "No Primary Controller". Is that OK?  - Different printer settings for different users I have a client who wants to track who is printing to their networked printers. They have seperate ids for the print driver to identify them but they don't want the users messing with the print driver all the time and they have to clear it out when they're done. Is there a way to set-up usres with specific printing preferences so that if the user logs into XP or 98 boxes the printer preferences are set from the server?  - Really naive licensing question which I haven't researched yet (hows that for being honest up front!) I've got an SBS-2000 installation which is not presently using the Sql server portion. We've had a proposal from a vendor to move an app from a dedicated Unix server to Windows, and the Windows piece runs on SQL Server. So, their proposal includes SQL Server @ $666, and 6 Sql Server User cals @$146 each. Since I've already got Sql Server, how much of this can I save? Do I need the cals? We've got either 15 or 20 SBS cals, as I recall--the sub-operation that will use this software is probably 6 users max, which is why the spec. Pointers about where to read to understand limitations of Sql licensing welcome. As I recall from previous research, I'm not allowed to use the SBS SQL Server as a backing to a Web site.  - OT: disk speed Hi, We are looking to add a new server to our domain. It will primarily be used for storage. I am looking at getting a RAID 1 controller with 2 250GB drives. What is the main difference between SATA and SCSI drives. I know the SATA doesn't spin as fast but is it that noticable? The cost difference is pretty large. I can save over 1k by going with SATA. I originally was thinking about getting a storage server (storage server 2003 OS, can't run applications) but down the line I may need to move sqlServer to this new server (not a ton of people hitting it, just ~10 developers. I know I will need to purchase a seperage copy of sqlServer). Our SBServer is a SCSI drive so I can't really compare anything. If the server is primarily storage, do you think a SATA drive would be sufficient? I have a client using sbs 2000 with the shared fax subsystem being used. It
has been working like a champ for +/- 18 months. just lately the sybsystem
hangs and does not answer the incomming call. When this happens the only way
out seems to be a reboot. There are no errors in the event log.
