    - submissions to symantec blocked I have Norton Corporate edition installed on my SBS. Part of the setup is Central quarantine. The standard install submits any virus found to Symantec. However my SBS is reporting the following error: Event Type: Error Event Source: Central Quarantine Event Category: None Event ID: 34053 Date: 12/02/2004 Time: 06:12:55 User: N/A Computer: PROSSORNT01 Description: An error was detected in a Central Quarantine sample. I understand this is to do with ports being open in ISA. There is a symantec article referring to this Document ID:2003091010413848 which states that I need tohave ports 2847 and 2848 open outbound be able to reach the following addresses: To test connectivity, go to each of the following addresses: a.. http://gateways.dis.symantec.com:2847 b.. https://gateways.dis.symantec.com:2848 If the connection is successful, the browser is redirected automatically to the Security Response home page. If you cannot connect to both ports, verify that the ports are not being blocked by your firewall. I am currently able to reach the first but not the second.     - backup and crash isa Hi, For some reason, for 2 weeks, we have this strange behavior. When we run a backup (colorado tape) on our sbs2k, it stops the dsl connection, and it's impossible to get Internet during the backup. No strange message, exept it says it cannot connect. Any idea?     - Internal OWA producing error message Hi, I'm trying to get OWA running internally on an SBS and I get a "You are not authorized to view this page" 403 error message. I'm guilty of having this server setup with my ISP's DNS servers on the external card, which I'm a little afraid to change. Other than that, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I do have port blocks on 80 and 443, because the idea is to access this internally or via a VPN externally. I've been through several documents and threads, but I can's seem to get at the problem.     - Replacing Network Card - it's gone but NOT forgottton I want to add a gigabit network card on server. Everything started fine. Added Intel Card started up and had numerous errors - (bad card likely) I shut down pulled the card and restarted. Now Netlogon and Exchange do not start on reboot, I need to start them manually. The gigabit card (now removed) still shows up in Remote Access Admin. When I reset the onboard card to 192.168.16.2 warning appears not exact error, I am not at the server) - Another Card currently not visible has this IP address if it becomes active you will experience trouble do you want to continue? I have the server up and running OK but before I do anything else I would like to get rid of all references to this now non-existent card. Any suggestions or pointer would be appreciated.     - web proxy crashes Still having a problem with web proxy crashing and my clients call and cannot get out to the internet. Exchange via SMTP works great, but OWA is not accessable when web proxy fails. Any ideas would be great. Setup is CISCO Router T1 ==> PIX506E ==> 2nd NIC 10.0.0.x 1st NIC 192.168.x.x is plugged into switch. Only started getting this problem when I saw an event log for cdat.dir is corrupt or did not have enought time to shut down bakc in October. MS SBS techs had me clear out cache and it worked great for a week. The last run was good for about a month or so... but nwo it is failing this week and last week.     - Publishing website on member server Hi Group, I have a customer who has a web application that must sit on it's own webserver. I have tried to publish this website to the outside world, but with no joy. (SBS2003 Premium) The internal webserver is 192.168.0.3, the SBS 2003 server is 192.168.0.2, we have a fixed external IP on a 2nd NIC. If you http://192.168.0.3 the website loads internally. The website is in the 'default web site' in IIS. The member server is Windows 2000 server. What are we doing wrong.     - Default Gateway Disappearing Hi, Have a small problem with a Win2K SBS. Have recently moved from Satellite to ADSL for internet access. Have disabled the Satellite connected NIC (with old default gateway), configured ADSL router with NAT and now have only a single network card in the server with the ADSL router as the default gateway. However twice in the last week the users have complained of lost internet connectivity. Upon inspection there is no default gateway set. Inserting it again and all comes back to life.     - Cant receive SMTP mail from new domains We recently added 2 new web domains in addition to the 2 longstanding domains we have registered. We can receive an smtp email feed via exchange on our original domains, but the new ones is getting blocked. We use SBS2k, fully patched including ISA, with 2 NICs, the external NIC connecting directly to the ADSL Router - no external firewall. I have set up the new domains in recipient policies, and that appears to work correctly for internal users. Our ISP suggests that their server, which they confirm is pointed at our SBS2K servers external NIC IP is blocking access to their smtp server. They have confirmed they are unable to Telnet to our server, and suggest that I need to enable them as a trusted domain. I didn't have to do anything to set up my original 2 domain addys for them to recieve email from the same ISP, so why can't it receve the additional email domains?     - Problem Hi, We are using SBS2000 and we have a client on the network who cannot create an outbound VPN connection. I have been blowing my brains out but nothing is working.     - DNS record Hi all, I have a problem with a computer's DNS entry. I foolishly deleted the DNS entry from the SBS server which was 192.168.0.47 relating to this PC: Exactly what i did was as follows: Went into the DNS via my computer > Control Panel> Admin Tools > Reverse Lookup > 192.168.0.X - Subnet, deleted the 192.168.0.47 entry for this PC. (PC Name - Starsky) The PC had a couple of DNS entries and i thought if i deleted the DNS records for this PC from the reverse lookup zone it would then reset the DNS record for this PC when i rebooted the PC....Silly me. I have rebooted the PC and the server but don't see a DNS entry for that particular PC (starky) PC in the DNS via my computer > Control Panel> Admin Tools > Reverse Lookup > 192.168.0.X - Subnetnetwork.     - Outbound emails stuck in queue Hello, I am not able to have outbound email flowing anymore. This started happening a week after we had to change our server external IP. Things were working fine for a week until now. Our setting is : SBS2000 Exchange 2000 SP3 W2K SP4 I tried to run ICW but unfortunately it doesn't change anything I tried to setup the "SMTP virtual server" to use weither our ISP mailhost ( by setting the fully qualified domain and smart host to our ISP mail server name ) or by using the server itself SERVERNAME.MYDOMAIN.COM I also tried to setup the "Smallbusiness SMTP connector" to use our ISP mailhost as well. Without any success. I also tried to restart the server multiple times. When checking the Queue in the "SMTP virtual server" all the emails are being queued or in a "retry" state. When I tried to connect from the command prompt to an outside mail server ( telnet mail.outsideserver.com 25 ) I get a successful connection. When I setup outlook express and create a "dummy account" to send email using our ISP mail relay , things are working fine. Any idea ? Tag: Service Problem Tag: 151309

How can a computer that connects to the office network through a firewall VPN appliance (such as a sonicwall or watchgaurd device) be authenticated on the domain to provide full access to network resources.     - Upgrading to Small Business Server 2003 I am assisting a small business in upgrading from Windows 2000 to Small Business Server 2003. I was told we were going to have to format the drives and do a fresh install. I will have a complete tape backup to restore data, but will I be able to restore my Active Directory information? What else must I do to prepare my clients for this upgrade? The documentation I have found talks about migrating from 1 server to another, but we only have 1 server and do not have the $$ to purchase another just to upgrade the OS. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. There are 5 clients and about 30 user accounts. So it would not be a great deal if I had to recreate them all, but I was hoping their may be an easy way to restore my AD info into SBS 2003 I am also changing the server from a single drive to a raid 5 configuration, so reformatting the drives are not an issue, because I have to do this anyway in order to get RAID setup.     - OWA Question and sending SMTP Got a user who is trying to allow users to get into OWA to check email, but we don't want these users to be able to send external email. If I remove their SMTP address in Exchange, it still allows them to send (but not receive) external email. I tried changing their email address from their domain.com to domain.local - and then blocking the .local domain using the SMTP forwarder... SOON. 1. Reboot your server before patching. [okay I'll admit I don't always do that, so I'll let you slide on that one] 2. Manually go into services and shut off Exchange as a precaution [start, admin tools, services, anything with Microsoft Exchange, click STOP] 3. Using whatever tool of your choice [PREFERABLY www.shavlik.com hfnetchkpro limited or MBSA which scans for all sorts of patches but in this case with 04-007, Windows update will do just fine] scan for patches and apply them. 4.     - MyDoom: Undelivered mail Since the MyDoom.A virus has been in action I have been receiving up to 250 undeliverable messages to my postmaster every day! The emails are addressed to random names which of course do not exist within the organisation. Previously I only got about 10 undeliverable per day. Is there something I can do to stop this?     - System path and MDB log files I am at a client that is currently running SBS 2k on a system with 2 18Gb mirrored drives and 3 36Gb RAID5. The MDB and stream files are on the D: drive and the OS, application, Log files and Chk (system path location) are located on the C drive. Was this set up poorly? Should I move the logs to the D as well. I noticed last nite that the logs have been filling up the C drive and not beign removed.     - Can you switch Terminal Services from application mode to Remote mode on SBS safely? Wow! I just another inherited another SBS 2000 with some tricky weirdness. The previous IT company did the following (I only need help with the last): 1. Installed SBS on an old box with a three year old single hard drive! (owner of company said she would have bought ten if it woud have helped) 2. Named the local domain exactly the same as their external website! 3. Disabled ISA so he could sell them a fancy firewall with a ton of ports wide open! 4. Installed Terminal Services in application mode just for the fun of it! I wouldn't be surprised if this server has one ear and answered to "Lucky." Sorry, I had to vent. Anyway, has anyone heard of reverting TS back to remote mode? I would like to offer this feature, and I can't install certain features of Symantec SBS 8.1 AV because the server is in application mode. I didn't know if this is terribly risky or not. Thanks!     - Outlook client on SBS 2003 server I am wondering if it is safe to run an Outlook client on an SBS2003 server if I implement dll/com redirection. Despite the warning when you start Outlook, Q articles on MS web site seem to indicate that you simply need to copy mapi32.dll to the same directory as outlook.exe and create a blank file called outlook.exe.local. Any thoughts on this? If my rational is correct, what about mapisvc.inf? Would a matching copy of that file need to reside in the same directories as mapi32.dll?     - Printing in Terminal Services & Group Policy Win 2k TS and SBS 2k. 2 printers are directly on network. 4 other shared printers attached to various local workstations. Everyone uses RDC to connect to TS but I am having problems understanding printing from within a Terminal Services session. None of the printers are attached to the TS or SBS. Do I need to install all the printers on the TS for users to be able to use them ? or just the printer drivers ? Do I need to use the Add Printer wizard, when each of the users logs into a TS session in order for them to use a particular printer ? or is there any way of making all of the printers available to all users without having to go thru the wizard for each users TS session ? With regards using Group Policy on the SBS to lock down a TS session, I know I must create an OU but would I include all computers and users in this OU or just the TS or just the users ? I have Small Business server 2000 as Domain and when ever the server is restarted the netlogon service is not getting started automatically even the service is set to start automatic and if it is not started the active directory wont work. What must be the problem and what is the solution for it
