Hi everyone,

I have an SBS2000 server running SQL2000 and Exchange
2000. For the last 2
weeks after the exchange implementation my server has
becomes short on
memory. I came back today from a 2 week vacation and got
this surprise with
a message on the health monitor a warning from Paging
file.The % Memory
Available is 11MB from 1GB that's too low, why is this
happening and what
can I do to solve this?? My C drive space is 4.2gb with
38% of free disk
space and my E (share Drives) drive is 32 gb. with 56% of
disk space. When I
go to the System properties in the performance options
this is what I have:

Virtual Memory:
Total Pagain file size for all drives 1830mb. When I
click on change this is
what I see:

Drive C: Pagin File Size(MB) 1536-3072
Drive E :

Paging file for the selected Drive:

Drive C:
Space Available 6087MB

Initial size MB 1536
Max size MB 3072

Total Paging file size for all drives

Minimum Allowed 2MB
Recommended 1534MB
Currently Allocated 1830MB

Current registry size 20MB
Maximun registry size 90MB

Please this is urgent. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks to all in advance.

Denise

It's normal for Exchange to consume all of the server's available RAM,
releasing it to other apps as needed. For example, my SBS' store.exe
process is currently using about 400mb RAM, about a third of the total.
This is normal and generally works as it's supposed to, so if that's what
you're seeing, don't worry about it.

Probably not a big deal one way or the other, but I prefer to set a fixed
size pagefile at 1.5 times physical RAM. Dynamically increasing the
pagefile size (yours started out at 1536 and now is at 1830) uses system
resources and results in file fragmentation.

Dave thanks for taking the time to loook into my problem. A couple of
questions for you..where in the server can I see how much store.exe is
using from my resources? What will be the right amount to assign given your
recommendations and base on the numbers I gave you from the page file size??
Everything seems to be working fine, SQL, Exchange, printers, etc. None has
complain so far about server being slow.

Thanks again

Denise

Not sure you can see about resources, and it really doesn;t matter. As you
indicated, if everything is running fine, and nobody's complaining - why fix
something that's not broken?

As to the size of your pagefile, what Dave said is the usual response - 1.5
times your physical memory. You don't indicate how much memory your server
has. But let's assume it's 2gb - (which would be what you should be runnning
with SQL and Exchange). In that case, your page file size should be set to
3gb (2 x 1.5).

It's normal for Exchange to consume all of the server's available=20
RAM,<BR>&gt;&gt; releasing it to other apps as needed.&nbsp; For =
example,=20
my SBS' store.exe<BR>&gt;&gt; process is currently using about =
400mb RAM,=20
about a third of the total.<BR>&gt;&gt; This is normal and =
generally works=20
as it's supposed to, so if that's what<BR>&gt;&gt; you're seeing, =
don't=20
worry about it.<BR>&gt;&gt;<BR>&gt;&gt; Probably not a big deal =
one way or=20
the other, but I prefer to set a fixed<BR>&gt;&gt; size pagefile =
at 1.5=20
times physical RAM.&nbsp; Dynamically increasing the<BR>&gt;&gt; =
pagefile=20
size (yours started out at 1536 and now is at 1830) uses=20
system<BR>&gt;&gt; resources and results in file=20
fragmentation.<BR>&gt;&gt;<BR>&gt;&gt;<BR>&gt;&gt; "Denise" &lt;<A =
