    - SBS2003 server replication I have an SBS2003 web server running IIS6 and SQL2000. My company wants a secondary server that this server can replicate to so if anything happens to it, we can just change a few router settings and the replication server can take over. Ideally I want a second sbs2003 server with the same domain\servername that Active Directory\IIS and SQL can replicate too. I'm not too bother about SQL or IIS configurations yet, I just want o know if its possible. I'm mostly bothered about AD at this point....are there any good documents on replication AD in this way?     - Cannot browse to My Website I have seen this problem discussed here before, but cannot find the thread... I have a client with SBS2K single NIC without ISA(against my wishes). SBS domain: asdfgh.com web domain: asdfgh.com I cannot browse from inside my network to my own website..... The previous consultant had defined an explicit DNS host record called WWW that mapped to HIS web server where the website was hosted. Now I have moved the website to a shared hosting service server, made changed to the website, and removed the explicit reference to his web server. The domain will not resolve. TIA...     - OT: booting to USB OK, sorry for the OT post but I figured that someone here had to have had the same problem or close to it. We have a Gateway Profile 3 computer. (Yes, I know that it is crap but I did not order it). It has been passed around to several different users and started acting squirrely so I formatted it and went to reload XP. Found out then that the CDROM is bad. THis is one of those computers that are built out of laptop parts to make a slim desktop. The replacement CDROM is no longer available. I thought that I might be able to pick up a USB CDROM and boot to that. The only USB Boot option in the BIOS is USB FDD. Does anyone think that this will work even thought it will be a CDROM instead of floppy? GAteway of course has no idea.     - Prob with the services Hi All When I try to use the Services snap-in to start or stop any service, I'd receive the following error message: Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. I am the Domaine Admin and unable to things on this server. I looked at this KB: Error Message "Error 1053" When Using the Services Snap-in http://support.microsoft.com/?id=278712 This wasn't helpful to me because even if I waited 5 hours, restarted the server and so on, not a single service has started. I have a client running XP Pro (as do all my clients) This one client does not recieve it's email in a timely manner.     - Loss of Network Connection We have 12 users on an SBS server network. one of the PCs suddenly cannot detect the network. I have checked the wiring and sockets - they are fine. when i switch on the machine, the lights at the back of the PC which indicate the network cable do light up. but on start-up, cannot access any network files or folders, and PC cannot detect the network.     - HELP!!! SMTP Virtual server queue keeps filling up Hey guys SBS2003 with all SP's and updates. My Virtual SMTP server keeps filling up with crap.. I think there is a virus somewhere there were like 28000 messages in the Q and all seemed to be heading to like 2 or 3 diffrent address that noone in the Company jknows.     - Questions on licensing Hi, We have a SBS2000 Server that now has 51 users. We have purchased CALs for 50 (when you go into BackOffice>Help>About in the SBS Admin Console). We have some temps starting and I am hesitating to add more accounts on the SBS..... Question 1. ------------- Why was I able to add my 51st user even though I have 50 CALs? I expected to see a pop up message to say "Cannot carry out this operation" or something? Question 2. ------------- We have a couple of employees who are going to go away on holiday. I was thinking of disabling their accounts on the SBS (in Active Directory). Does disabling an account free up a license? Question 3. ------------- If Yes is the answer to Question 2, then I will setup a temp with an account in AD. This temp will replace the user going on holiday for 2 weeks. Question 4. ------------- If No is the answer to Question 2, then how do I add a temp account to AD on the SBS, as this temp will require her own login/mailbox to carry out the duties of the employee who will leave on holiday for 2 weeks? The receipient claims she didn't received the message.     - Problems with FTP... User getting 421 error... We have a user who is attempting to log onto our FTP site. He can get to the point where he is being asked for a username and password. He is definately entering the correct username/password and in the FTP log, it even backs this up. However, the connection is being closed after the time out period and there is an error 421 being reported. The time out is set to 900 seconds (15 minutes). Obviously he is able to connect to us on port 21 as he is being able to authenticate - but unable to get any further. This rules out firewall issues on either end I would think... This user is in England - we are in Canada - shouldn't pose any issues. No one else is having this problem and other users are using the exact same username/password as this user is. Has anyone seen this type of thing before?? The log file is showing the connection closing after the time out of 900 seconds (15 minutes) has expired. However, the user is reporting that his screen errors out long before the 15 minutes is up... after only a few minutes. Has anyone had this problem before?     - Two Sites SBS2K 1 Domain Hi, I have inherited this client, two locations both running SBS2K, both with the same domain, with a VPN link between the two.The problem is because they both have the same .local domain and the same internet domain name we can't get a full integration. Users can't email users at the other site, the users aren't in the global address book etc. If a user types in an address of a user at the other site the mail bounces back as user unknown, (obviously). are there any workarounds to sort this out.     - Backup Not Working When I try to start the Backup application on our Windows server, I receive an error that says "Backup cannot connect to removable storage. This service is required for use of tape drives and other backup devices." When I go into the device manager, and look at the removable storage drive it says that it is working properly. I also looked under Computer Management and when I clicked on the removable storage Icon it says, "service cannot be started, either because it is diabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."     - Watchguard 6ct and SBS 2000 I have a sbs2000 for a client that we recently got a 6ct forI have a sbs2000 that we recently got a 6ct for. A few issues... They have 2 offices. Main one is on a SDSL line and the other is on a cable connection. The users at the cable one are not technically inclined. I had them running a PPTP VPN to the main office and then running a TS session to a TS that they worked off of. All good! But the Cable line is unstable, and they complain / do not want to have to redial the VPN connection when it is dropped by the PPTP due to issues. So I figured a Site to Site VPN would be good, as it would allow the devices to reattach whenever the line goes down, with no interaction on their end (other than reopening a TS session). So...I get the 6tc after my CDW rep told me that they will support the Site to Site, as well as allowing the passthrough of PPTP - so I need not reconfigure all other users (like myself when I VPN to them) Ok - enough background... We have 5 usable static IP's. I set the 6ct External interface up with the ISP's assistance and can go outbound fine. I tested sending email (through the SBS server (Exchange/ISA) and received ok by outside address. However, the inbound email is not working. Network is as follows: 65..49 (External Gtway) 65..50 (external IP) 65..51 (External Email - assigned as such by ISP) and I have .52 and .53 available 192.168.1.1 (Internal 6ct) 192.168.1.2 (External ISA) 192.168.0.x (internal ISA) So I created the following routes: Routing Table Destination Gateway Genmask Iface 65.x.x.48 69.x.x.50 255.255.255.248 eth0 (external) 192.168.1.0 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 eth1 (trusted) 192.168.1.2 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.255 eth1 (trusted) 192.168.0.0 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0 eth1 (trusted) 65.x.x.51 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.255 eth1 (trusted) 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.255 eth1 (trusted) 192.168.1.0 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.255 eth1 (trusted) 0.0.0.0 65.x.x.49 0.0.0.0 eth0 (external) For some reason inbound email is not passing thru to the 192.168.0.1 address? Additionally, I noticed in posts by Jeff and others that Site to Site does not work as the end point is outside the ISA. Could I not have a route that allows the traffic to pass to the ISA server and it will allow it on thru? Just seems like this was a waste if that is the case.     - Delayed Emails Hi Folks - We have been running SBS 2000 for a couple of years. We have 10 Outlook 2002 clients that use local Exchange email. We upgraded 5 clients from Windows 2000 Pro to Windows XP Pro. Since the upgrade, clients are not receiving email or have a huge delay in receiving local email. I'd like to collect mail from a pop3 account (at ISP), but not on port 110. In the pop3 connector I can only set the host address of the ISP's POP3 server. When the use logs onto to the client machine a message tells them that they need local adin rights to install apps. I dont want to give users local admin rights. How do I resolve this.     - afd.sys fails to load on reboot My Server fell over last week and I have spent all weekend trying to rebuild it on new hardware. When the server is built (no errors/warnings in the log) and all services running. If the system restarts I get the error message that afd.sys failed to load. The trouble is . . . . I know the fix is to install the service pack but if I do that I can not run the sbs setup as it fails. I was looking at the possibility of configuring a ISDN/Dial up entry in ISA Server(we have it as part of SBS 2000) that we could switch to if this happens again. Strange thing is that it was done at 22:00hrs, when the office was closed & had been since 17:00hrs, & Automatic updates are turned off. My question is how did this get installed without user input?     - Upgrade to Exchnage 2003 Currently running SBS2000 using everything. I have a full copy of SBS2003 AND Exchange 2003. I would like to install Exchange 2003 to get access to the Active Synch for the three of our execs new TREO 650 smartphone. I hesitate to do this or any other upgrade since things are all running perfectly (knock on wood) 1) Can I "upgrade" the Exchnage portion only? 2) Advice (real life experience please) on "Upgrading in place" of SBS2000 --> 2003?     - Exchange 2k3 Hi, It seems most of my clients SBS2k3 Exchange store have started erroring in the past 4 weeks. Prior to that they where running sweet for ages. Now it seems they are slow responding, giving fragmented memory warnings and or store.exe using more than normal CPU usuage. The strange thing is, this is occuring on a server that hasn't had Exchange SP1 installed. I have applied fixes KB843539, KB831664 to the clients servers that have SP1 installed to no avail. I get the feeling that the store.exe problem is not directly related to SP1. I'm interested in replies from non - SP1 users who have experienced problems recently when all was going so well. I have about 6 clients who are running SBS2k3 and I find it very odd that 3 of them started erroring round about 4-5 weeks ago.     - Server not responding error (Sorry I have posted this in an SBS4.0 thread instead of SBS2000) Dear all, I have sbs2000 with 35 clients. Shared folders(mainly word and excel files) and some of the application(Access based database) is running from the server. Some times we are getting an error server not responding - this is to happen when we open a file and kept open for some hours, and when we back and type something on top of the file it says cannot save the file or connection to the server is lost etc, but the server connection is on.     - Installing Outlook on ssb 2000 I am testing the sbs 2000. When I installed it to load Outlook 2002, I don't have the CD on my hand. So, I skipped it.     - XP computers wont log on to 2000 properly We've had 2 new windows XP laptops added to our 2000 network. When they log on, they do not have access to the network drives. I can map the network drives for them, but when they log back on, same thing. Also, they are having severe problems accessing personal folders, but this may be related to a) the huge size of their personal folders, b) the problems logging onto network, or c) none of the above.     - VPN not working right I have a user that is going to be moving to an office in another city for a couple of months. Problem is he will still need to use a server based SQL-driven application to do his job (EBM). I have talked to EBM's support and they state that the application should work as long as he still has the proper drive mapped. The user has a laptop and there will be no desktop available here for him to do the Remote Desktop thing so I have to do this via VPN. I tried using the VPN connection that was set up via Remote Connection Manager and that did not work good. It took forever trying to open anything and the application would finally time out or get a read error after several minutes. I then set up the VPN manually via the instructions on www.smallbizserver.net (Thanks Mariette and Marina). Same problems happening still. I also received an error stating that the SBS client configuration encountered a problem and would have to close. Network is set up as follows: SBS2003 Premium W.S. is using XP Pro 2 NIC DSL I have the firewall on the DSL modem wide open while trying to get this to work. VPN enabled on server via the Remote Acess Wizard. User is a mobile user. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.     - When the filename begins with "smtp" it isn't visible / dissapear When I copy/create files on my small business server 2000 and the filename begins with "smtp" for example: "smtpamd.dll" the file is invisible on de server. Also with te command promp I can't see the file. On a workstation I use a share than can I see the file on the server. I have started the computer in save mode and it doesn't make a difference, I tried to login with another user but also that doesn't make a difference. I have scanned the computer for virus and spyware with differend programs (Norman, spybot, spysweeper, Microsoft antispyware) They found some spyware and removed it also but the problem stays. I have restored a backup of the registy of a few days ago but that did'n work. Can it be a policy setting of somthing in the registy? Who can help me? thnx a lot!! I went to the client site this morning. When I got there, I was able to successfully run Outlook, which was configured for the Administrator account. I turned on Out-of-Office and sent an Email from one of my own accounts to it. The message arrived successfully, but no Out-of-Office reply was sent. The last time they had rebooted, IIS choked on the Exchange sites, and the Public WWW site. I restarted W3C, and all the Exchange services,receiving no error events. However, still no Out-of-Office. Current mail travels in both directions to most sites, but there's a ton of Retry entries in the domain queues. I force-connected a few, but after a few minutes, the numbers hadn't changed, even with a Refresh. I can establish a Telnet connection from outside their network. The version that comes up is 5.0.2195.6713. Unfortunitely, I didn't have time to check service pack levels, but that should help. Any suggestions much appreciated.     - Shared Fax, E-mail & Telnet I have 2 sites with SBS 2000. In both cases, the companies are using the Shared Fax service. They each want e-mail notification to a central fax administrator. I've been through all the KB articles concerning how this is set up, yet the e-mail forwarding fails. In the Fax Server console, the fax sits in the incoming box with a status of "routing failed". In the Application Log in Event Viewer are event ID 32080 & 32088. Attempts to Telnet port 25 on the server (from anywhere, including the local host) fail with the message: "Could not open a connection to host on port 25". I think it may be related. I have setup a fresh installation SBS 2000 with 25 windows XP clients with
Office 2000. I have configured an SMTP feed and the clients are sending and
receiving mail ok BUT!! when clients send mail the mail stays in the outbox
until you click on another folder at which point the mail leaves. I have
reaserched but have been unable to find a solution :-(

Any help would be grateful.

Add Outlook.exe to the excpetion list in the XP Firewalls...
