 - Reinstalling Exchange 2000 and IIS in SBS 2000 Reinstalling Exchange 2000 and IIS in SBS 2000 Does anyone know if there are any potential problems with doing the above? So far on a non production Server I have run the SBS set-up disk and unselected both Exchange and IIS then rebooted. Then re run the set-up disk and re installed both products and so far all seems to be working. This process appears not to damage or remove any of the Exchange database so that Inboxs seem to remain intact etc. My question is does anyone know if there are any serious potential problems with doing this.  - Ntbackup SBS 2000 Hi, I've a problem with Ntbackup. I have five batches, lunedi.cmd, martedi.cmd etc. The same batch it's installed a several servers, but someone don't start backup schedule. If I try start it from schedule task it's ok, (right click on job, and then run) otherwise from automatic schedule start it, but I can see the follow message: Impossible found specified support I've installed SP4, server model Compaq ML 350 g3 tape SDT 10000 and SBS 2000 italian.  - configuring static route to remote office I have a main office with SBS, connected to the web (2nd NIC), and I need to add a connection to an remote office that I will reach through a router on my LAN (leasedline). IP's assigned to the various interfaces on the routers and servers. SBS 1st NIC IP 10.10.10.7 Mask 255.255.255.0 Default gateway none SBS 2nd NIC IP 192.168.16.5 Mask 255.255.255.0 Default gateway 192.168.16.1 (IP ADSL Router) Terminal Server IP 10.10.10.8 Mask 255.255.255.0 Default gateway 10.10.10.7 Router (Cisco 1600) on my LAN IP 10.10.10.1 connected to: Router (Cisco 1600) at my remote office IP 10.10.11.1 At my remote office I have 8 client assigned static IP addresses: 10.10.11.2 to 10.10.11.10 All of them have 10.10.11.1 as their default gateway. What I want is my clients to be able to connect to my Terminal server at the SBS site using the remote desktop connection client. I also want to be able to create default TCP/IP ports for the printers installed on my terminal sever that are located at the remote office (10.10.11.20 and 10.10.11.21). I'm I correct to think that the only thing missing is the Route Add command (on my SBS)? Also what subnets should be inclouded in my LAT?  - Error : The password you supplied is not correct, or access to your logon server Hi , I am working as System administrator. Previously we were having WinNt SBS as our Server and win98 systems as our clients . At that time every thing was fine . Now we upgraded our server to Win2000 SBS . We are having 3 servers with SBS2000 installed in which one acts as a logon server & File Server . We have one shared folder named EventTrac on that file server ( which is also our logon server ) . Suddenly some times we are not able to connect to the shared folder or not even access the file server . It is giving an error message " no permission to access resource " . If we log off and try to logon , at this moment it gives an error message " The password you supplied is not correct , or access to your log on server has been denied " . If we restart the system we can logon to the domain this time with out problems and we are able to access the shared folder .  - Windows Update - Blank EULA I have noticed that when Windows Update is run on computers on our network when a user clicks "Install Now" sometimes instead of the EULA appearing a blank window of the same size appears. To install the updates you have to close the box (which then tells you that for every update you were installing it failed) and click install now again. It will then work happily. I think this is the reason that some of our machines are not automatically picking up updates. We have ISA Server on an SBS2K server. Anyone experienced this and know of a solution? I already have the underlying win2k patched with SP4 but hope to fix problems with remote access clients accessing shared folders etc (according to the FAQ).  - Unable to logon to SBS after reboot Hi All, I have a problem with one of my SBS server installations, it is as follows: sometimes when the server is rebooted or shut down and stared up again, i am unable to logon to it using the Administrator account and for that matter any other account with Admin rights. I am not running IPSec on this server! but i am under the impression that this is causing the fault from the above messages normally after this has happened the adminsitrator profile on the server has been reset, ie outlook settings, backgrounds etc. I attempted to apply SP1a to it yesterday and it kept telling me that it was not an SBS server, i even tried performing maintenance on the installation and this did not help, as yet i am unable to apply SP1a Windows is SP4 and i belive the Exchange is SP3 (by the OWA screen) the server runs fine normally but i would like to get this resolved, does anyone have any ideas?? help would be appreciated i have not contacted MS yet about this problem and i am unable thus far to find any information about this particular problem so i though i would try here.  - Modem Sharing When I installed a new server last August with SBS2K, I installed it without modem sharing because we only use DSL for the Internet and a fax modem for faxing. We didn't have any apps that needed dial-up. Now we do. I have an insurance app that requires connecting to an AS400 to download policy info. How do I add modem sharing after the fact?  - HELP: Internet Explorer and Outlook Authentication... Hello, Internet Explorer prompts with a Username and Password request box everytime I launch browser (google, not a secure site), and doesn't accept my logon name and password, and Outlook prompts for the same and doesn't accept my username and password either. If I try IE 6 times it finally times out with an HTTP 407 Proxy Authentication Required message. Please help, not sure what I did or how to straighten it out. P.S. I have read to do an online exchange backup of the Information store and this will remove used transaction logs.  - Please explain compression on ntbackup with DDS3 tape drive I was surprised when my backup (using WinXPPro ntbackup to a Seagate Scorpion DDS 12/24 drive) using hardware compression (confirmed with seagate utility) balked at wanting another tape while trying to backup 17.8G of data (3g of MPS's, quite a few jpgs and other files) I thought it would easily fit on a 12/24 tape using hardware compresison. Is ntbackup **uncompressing** my mp3's onto tape?? Even with a 35% compression ratio I should still get 11.57 gig on tape... not getting it why it needs 2 tapes.  - More stange OWA + pos fix I'm trying to get OWA to work on a production SBS 2000 server with the latest Service pack and critical security patches. This server had the IIS lockdown tool installed about 13 months ago that I have now updated to the latest version. The problem is that on various Windows 2000 professional workstation and the server itself all with IE 6 the OWA client will log straight in as the logged in user without prompting for a login ID or password. If I enable the new IIS Lockdown tool the OWA clients hangs and just displays 'Loading'. I've tried about 10 different TechNut articles and all the setting appear correct including the IIS lockdown tools ini file. I've had similar problems on another 'non' production SBS 2000 server and eventually resolved the problem by uninstalling the Certificate server, IIS and Exchange then rebooting the server then reinstalling the whole lot. This worked fine and even let me run the IIS Lockdown tool without breaking. Does anyone know of a less drastic way of getting OWA to work in a SBS 2000 environment? Or is this as good as it gets?  - Exchange 2000 IMS Problem Hello, Had a network failure this morning (UK) which resulted in a firewall having to be replaced, etc. I thought that would be end of that, but then realised that POP3 was downloading, but IMS will not distribute the incoming mail to the recipients. Event Log reports POP3 download successful, but reports 'NDR Status 400' Event ID 4023 and does not deliver anything into any mailboxes. Searched Technet to fing nothing for the NDR error.  - Couple XP Client questions 1) After going through the SBS>Add User wizard & then manually setting up the XP machine, the user is not displayed in Control Panel>Users on the client machine. I can click add & type the username to add the user without problems.  - Help with unauthorised relay problem? I have a server that is collapsing under the weight of unauthorised email being relayed. I've followed the KB324958 guide, my server was not an open relay but I have removed all the external authenticated access relay settings, changed passwords etc but still the queues are filling up. At the moment I'm still on the bit where I've configured the SMTP connector to forward all mail to a smart connector so that I can flush the queues but they are constantly filling up! I'm wondering if I have a compromised account but have changed all the passwords and having closed external access I don't know what else to do, any advice gratefully received.  - DNS disabling its self I am running a SBS w/ win 2000. It acts as my DC, DNS, Exchange server and has AD. Everytime I reboot this machine the dns does not start. Either I can turn dns to manual and of course I would need to start it manually. If I set the machine to automatic it will show up as disabled after the reboot. I currently only have one dns server running (my bad), but this really makes me stressed to get the dns back up after a reboot. Any suggestions as to why the dns keeps on disabling itself? This may be unrelated, but I'll give it a go. The group policy in the Active Directory displays an access denied message everytime I try to open it, and I cannot create any policies.  - Advice I currently hav Windows XP Pro. I'm running my own little web server for a small business I have. I have received interest from others that they would like me to host their sites as well. The problem with XP Pro is that I can only maintain one server in IIS and can not creat multiple virtual servers for each client, at least that is what I'm told. Anyway, I am considering getting another computer and loading one of the Microsoft server OS's. I don't think I need Win Server 2003 Enterprise and after doing some homework, I'm under the impression the Small Buisiness Server 2003 is Win Server 2003 Standard with some business additions.  - POP3 Connector am running SBS2000 and using the POP3 connector for Exchange. Not all of my email accounts set up at the ISP go to the Exchange server in the end, some individuals never connect to the server and use Outlook Express only. However when someone connected to the Exchange server send an email to someone within the company that is not connected to the Exchange Server they receive an delivery failure notice from the Exchange server that that email account doesn't exist.  - New Installation problem I have been given the job of creating a new installation of SBS 2000. New to this as all our previous server are Novell based. The server is new, and the installation has been done as default throughout. Everything works except web access from either the server or the client. We have a ADSL router plugged directly in the 2nd NIC (external) card. The ISA has been installed as default, and the settings for the 2 network cards are: Internal: IP Address 192.168.16.2 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default gateway blank External: IP Address: 192.168.0.254 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 192.168.16.2 The 192.168.0.254 is the IP address of the ADSL router. The configuration of the client network card is IP 192.168.16.10 Subnet 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 192.168.16.2. I know there is a stupid mistake somewhere, but I am out of my depth. I can ping the internal netword card on the server, but it timesout on the external one. If I try to connect to the web on the client PC it gets a DNS lookup failure message.  - Internal network falls when VPN setup Hi, We have SBS2K two NICs 1 router. The system has been running since May 2003without to many problems. I have recently been trying to allow VPN access into the server for some users to get emails etc. I followed the guide on SBS2000.info and caused big problems, clients couldn't log on internally and WINS stopped running on the server. Email was coming in but not going out. I put everything back how it was (I think) and then tried again but caused the same problems again.  - Access contacts from public folders offline I have a public folder created to store all my Client Contact records. I connect to my server remotely with a dial up AOL account and then establish a VPN connection. Once connected, I then start Outlook to check my e-mail which I have setup as an IMAP mail account. I see the public folder where my client contacts reside and I have selected it for synchronization. However, I cannot figure out how to actually access these contacts via my address book. Even if winfax can use the shared modem, every fax that I send I receive an error from winfax on the xp box "unable to send data to modem. Try shut down"; the fax is anyway sent correctly.  - OT: Offline folder synchronization & molasses... Hello Again: If you read the other post, you know I had a laptop tank with multiple injuries. I was in a pinch so I purchased a new one. It's a beautiful machine with one glaring issue that I haven't been able to rectify. Offline folder synchronization is SLOW. (and I mean SLOOOOOOOOOOW). If I manually copy files to and from the unit the transfer rate is 'normal'. But if I try to use synchronization that same transfer will take 10 to 20 times longer. I've used offline synchronization with other units with no problems at all. A couple of points of interest - the transfer is slow even if I engage file synchronization from another machine - it will work fine between any two machines as long as the machine IS NOT the new laptop. Also, the machine is equipped with built in wireless and 100/bt. No matter which system is currently in use the transfer rate is abysmal.  - OT: Replacing laptop OS sans floppy, sans CD-rom... Hola All: A series of events rendered a laptop useless. The OS (xp pro) would not boot in any mode (not even command prompt). There's no floppy on the unit and the internal CD/ROM is also dead. I was able to remove the HD safely and am transferring all of the data (using one of those external USB2.0 HD housings). I have no images of the HD but I do have the manufacturers original CD's. What's the most expedient method of getting a usable OS back on to the HD?  - SBS 2000 migration to separate Windows 2000 & Exchange 2000 Hi All, I have a machine running Small Business Server 2000 and I am now running it with almost 70 users, needless to say I am getting licensing error messages and I need to migrate to running a separate Windows 2000 Server operating system with Exchange 2000 (+ other bits if I want them). Now I have purchased my SBS 2000 migration kit that gives me the license for the base product and 5 CALs. I have also purchased 9 lots of the CAL migration packs so that I am now licensed for 50 users. I have also purchased 15 extra Windows 2000 server and Exchange 2000 CALs so that I am licensed for up to 65 users. So I am ready to do the migration. Now I have a brand new server and I have already installed Windows 2000 server onto it but I have not yet added it into the current Active Directory structure. I have not yet installed Exchange 2000 as this has to go after the server has become a domain controller. Here is what I understand about what is required to migrate users from the SBS 2000 server to the new domain controller. - Add the new Windows 2000 server into the Active Directory. - Install Microsoft Exchange 2000 and configure as an additional Exchange server under the same domain. - Run the Migration Wizard on the SBS 2000 server and choose to move all mailboxes and public folders to the new Exchange 2000 server. - Once complete move all users under Active Directory to the new server. Now is this correct? and if so are there any issues I should be aware of? What needs to be done to the SBS 2000 server to demote it and remove the Exchange server from Active Directory?  - Too Much Traffic I noticed today that by 11am our ISP said we had downloaded 230mb data. I found this because it was a slow adsl connection... I'm in no doubt that there has been heavy traffic somewhere. They say we've been doing it off and on for a week. Goodbye $150.00 All our ports are shut to the outside if you scan with say sygate or grc. Up todate NAV corporate finds nothing anywhere. I did an online av and trojan scan from Symantec, also clean. All systems are patched up todate and have had the baseline security and the lockdown wizard applied. In the ISA logs I can't find the traffic. I get may be 20 or 30 megs a day total in and out, which is what I would expect. I am looking in the right places, I can see the NAV corporate sigs coming in. Our Dlink 504 router had the remote access turned off. Can anyone suggest where else I should look for the trouble? We've had this router about a week... could I have done something idiotic that would be letting someone direct something through the router? I should add that exchange is not an open relay; set up as per msexchange.org, and will not relay in a telnet session.  - Terminal Services over ADSL Hi, I am looking at a company where there are 4 different locations/sites (soon to be 5). There are currently 74 users, 35 on the main, 20 on the secondary, 10 on another, 12 on another and the new site will have 8 to begin with. They have a lot of applications where they need to make sure that the info is the same no matter which site they go to!! Is it feasible to put in Terminal services on the main site and have all the other users connect this way?? Will it work efficiently over and ADSL line or will I need to look at putting in various leased lines?? Is there a more efficient way to do this to make sure that downtime is minimised and the clients see the same data regardless of which site they have to work from??  - Exchange Crash Hi all Our SBS2000 server has gone mad and the exchange services will not start and I am unable to get them to start. I have tried service packs and hotfixes but no response and it now all looks doomed! Is there any way of retriving the mailboxes from the server?? is it a particular file that stores all the mail data?? If you open up the Printers, where you can see the queues, you should be
able to move the order and prioritise.
