All,

Have SBS2k on a site, and have been asked that mail to 'A' is also
copied to 'B'.
Have down this in AD, keeping a copy so 'A' still gets email.

Problem is, as soon as email hits 'B', a read receipt is sent to the
original sender of the email to 'A'. 'B' swears that the option box does
not come up for her to decide whether a receipt should, or should not be
sent.
Have looked on the local Outlook, and in AD/Exchange, and cannot see why
this should be happening.

Any thoughts?

TIA,
Phil Partridge

The only thing I can think of for this is the Outlook setting that controls
receipts - Outlook Tools/Options/Preferences/E-Mail Options/Tracking
Options. If that's set to always send a response, and the message is
getting marked read in the preview pane (or if she's really reading it),
that's the only way I can think of to explain the behavior you're seeing.

Thanks for that Dave,

Found my way to that one, but the option is greyed-out. - Would this be
a group policy thing from SBS?

Client machines have OfficeXP SBE. I suppose this could have over-
written the Outlook from SBS??

Personally I *hate* the way the preview pane makes an email 'marked as
read'. - Anyone know a registry hack so the preview still displays
messages, but their status does not change?

Failing the above. Any ideas how to monitor email without it costing?

TIA,

Phil Partridge.

(Outlook) Tools, Options, Other (tab), Reading Pane (button), uncheck
"Mark items as read when viewed in Reading Pane"

It's not a group policy from SBS that I'm aware of, but it could be set in a
GPO for some other reason. The Outlook GPOs (and all the Office ones) are
Administrative Templates - they're not installed by default. I'd be
surprised to find that someone would make this setting in a GPO, only
because my personal feeling is that you'd always want to choose whether or
not to send a receipt. Is the option dimmed on all your Outlook installs,
or just this one?

Will check..

Am only on-site one day per week, and then only for as long as it takes
to do 'whatever' is waiting for me.

Brilliant!
Now I just hope I was right when I said Office XP SBE.. There seem to be
not-so-subtle differences in Outlook 2k and XP.
