We are deploying some new client desktops. We've always used WindowsXP Pro
as our client OS to join to our SBS2k domain. However, we're looking for
the first time at machines that come pre-installed with WindowsXP MEDIA
CENTER.

I've looked and asked, but can't find a definitive document that says
WindowsXP MC is/is not an alternative to WindowsXP Pro as part of a SBS2k
domain.

Any experience, knowledge, cautions here?

Thanks,
John B

The question is, and you might want to post in the XP Media Center (cause I
don't know, or others might) and see if that version can join a domain or
not. XP Home cannot and Media Center is an enhanced home machine in my
opinion and based on my understanding

Hi,

Media Center Edition can join domains like XP Pro can. The only version of
XP that can't, is XP Home.

It is an enhanced home use machine, built off of XP Pro. Naming
conventions, gotta love em :)

Johnathan,

Thanks, your answer seemed definitive. Have you joined WinXP MC clients to
your SBS2k domain? If not, could you point me to the MS tech doc where it
confirms that.

Thanks,
John B

Hi John,

Personally, I have not. I _think_ I've joined an MCE machine to a 2003
domain (non-SBS) but I'm not sure. I have looked through MCE though, and it
has the ability to join domains, and to make sure, before I posted my
original response, I asked an MVP with a large interest in MCE if they could
be joined to a domain, and the one word response was "Yes"
