We are thinking of buying an anti-spam solution for our SBS
2K server network and would be grateful for any advice from
others as to which solution to purchase and how reliable
these solutions are.

Paul we use Norton Anti Virus Corporate and this covers exchange spam as well
and works well when you put the blacklist servers in .

http://www.vamsoft.com/orf/ We've used it for about 1.5 years and have been
very pleased. Takes a little bit of setup, but between website and a very
active newsgroup it's not difficult.
