I plan on replacing an existing server with a new one and upgrade the
existing SBS 4 with Exchange 5.5 to SBS2K. My plan is to export all the
mailboxes using ExMerge. Then when I get SBS2K all setup, then ExMerge all
the mailboxes back into Exchange 2000. This seems to be the recommended
practice and I agree with this strategy. My question is; When the users
start replying to other users within the same W2K domain, will it be
delivered? I ask because usually the x.400 and other email settings are
different between E5.5 and E2K. Or do they have to reply but choose the user
out of the GAL? I do plan on using the same server name as the old one.

To clarify, when users reply to emails that were delivered in the E5.5
system. Meaning replying to email within the office that might be a month
old.
I hate it when I post a question, then I realize that I wasn't clear...ugh.

Rick,

This is a good question... My understanding agrees with your observation.
Replying to a previous Exchange 5.5 address from within Exchange 2K will not
be delivered precisely because the x.400 address is different. Users will
need to change/check the name in the To field to see that it resolves to a
record found in the GAL. I don't know of any other way around this at this
point. But this reply will at least confirm your suspicions.

HTH,
Scott

What is the other work around? Or is there any?

Here's what I've found beyond my original post... I don't know if there's
any other way around it. I'd love to hear what others have done!
