Is Rollup 1 for Win2K Service Pack 4 (891861) OK to install on a Small
Business Server 2000 system?
Thank you.

I would not be hesitant to installing it at all, since the SP4 Rollup 1 is
essentially security updates, unlike a service pack which may include other
"features".

There's a post in microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs from a guy who's
having snmp problems since installing the rollup. His problem could very
well be isolated, and there's no documented reason not to install the
rollup, but I'd wait a few days to see if any recurring problems end up
getting reported.

My #1 rule is to never, ever install or change anything in the week before a
vacation or holiday. If you're in the US, have a great Independence Day,
and do it somewhere besides in front of a broken server : -)

Good catch, David. I just saw the same post and was ready to add it here.
BTW, here is what the poster wrote:

My Win2K SBS Sp4 server was just updated with the Win2K SP4 Roll-Up 1
KB891861. It hosed up my SNMP service. SNMP is taking all available CPU
cycles and will not respond to the stop or restart commands. I ended up
disabling the service and restarting the server.

How can I recover my SNMP service after what KB891861 did?

Kevin and David,
Thanks very much for the input. I'll hold off for a while.

FYI. I installed the rollup. Got a blue screen on reboot. My server vendor
worked with Microsoft and they replaced the system32\drivers\scsiport.sys
file with the pre-rollup version using the recovery console. The system then
booted OK and is running fine. This must be a rare issue, and I do not know
whether it is specific to SBS 2000.

Hi Kurt,

I have installed it on several SBS 2000 servers and haven't had any problem
at all.
