Hi,

Current setup: SBS2K + W2K clients. Mixed desktops and laptops and users
use both laptops and desktops. Currently using roaming profiles for the
users, we are having some small problems such as files popping up on the
desktop even though they have been deleted (maybe on another machine).

I was reading some rather old comments by Jeff on the topic of roaming
profiles vs. redirected folders. Are the conclusion still valid, that
redirect folders most likely are the way to go (in my situation)? Are
there any better alternatives where more "user experience" settings are
included in the "mobile profile"?

If you recommending me to stick with the roaming profiles (which I
otherwise do not have any serious problems with), how do I solve the
current problem? By telling users not to stick files on the desktop?

Roaming Profiles IMHO are still the way to go if you have users sharing
computers. It is the only way to carry settings for the users to each
machine.

Do you have suggestions for my current problem, that files from old
instances of the roaming profile (a cached profile on any given
computer, that have not being used for some time) can appear in the
"global updated" profile when logging in to this particular workstation?

Is it possible to combine a roaming profile with redirection of the
desktop (with offline files in order take laptops into account)?

Roaming Profiles can get bloated and corrupted, that is just normal.
Offline Files are a great tool with Laptops and I would agree to use them
with combination of Roaming Profiles.

You could also use group policy so as to not allow files to be saved to the
desktop.

Correct, another good alternative.
