Hi Sergio,
If you have a non-production Exchange server with service pack 2 or 3 on it
you could use LegacyDN to mount the pub.edb in Exchange and retrieve the
data.
This is what I usually do to recover Exchange database inoformation on a
recovery server:
1. Dismount any stores on the server
2. Move all the files in the MDBDATA folder out to another temp folder
3. Rename the pub.edb to pub1.edb
4. Attempt to mount the Public folder store
5. Check the Application log for the error messages. if the database is
consistant you'll get:
Event ID: 1088
Source: MSExchangeIS
Type: Error
Category: General
Description: The information store could not be loaded because the
distinguished name (DN) of message database
/O=<old_org_name>/OU=<old_site_name>/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN= does not match the
DN of directory
/O=<new_org_name>/OU=<new_site_name>/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=.
6. Make a not of the old org and site name
7. Find LegacyDN from the Service Pack files and copy it to the
Exchsrvr\bin folder
8. Run LegacyDN - Higlight the information in the top portion of the
display - this will populate the second half of the screen.
9. Change the Site and Org name to match the old server - hitting Change
after each line. then verify when all the lines are changed
10. Reboot the server
11. Attempt to mount the Public folder store
If it mounts then you will need to go to a user, open Outlook and see if
you can access the public folders, if not you may need to erset permissions
on the folder in the Exchange System Manager - I'd just give Administrator
the role of Owner\Creator and then attempt to access it with that account.
Once you can see the database in Outlook copy everything to a personal
folder - this will save it as a PST that you can import to any Outlook
user on the new Exchange domain and from there move it back to a new Public
folder store.
To return the recovery server back to it's old settings rerun Legacy DN and
return the Site and Org names back to their orginal state.
