well Phil
Everything you've said is true...except you can use the Action Pack in a =
production environment
But there are some expenses involved with being a partner
If you're happy with the way things are going...no worries

As this may be of interest to others in the Group, this is my =
experience
so far...
YMMV, these are my personal reflections:
Have gone to the UK part of the Microsoft website, and found partner
program. As previously stated, registration is 'free'. - Obviously the
more people singing from the MS hymn-sheet, the better for MS!
As an individual, you can only become a Microsoft Registered Partner.
There are other levels (Certified and Gold, but you need multiple MS
Certified people in your organisation.
You end up needing a ? .net passport ? - which is similar to a cookie,
enabling 'the system' to know who you are.
You can then register, print out and 'electronically sign' the terms =
of
use and privacy statements. Which, as usual, don't print out without
cropping the right-hand-side. :-(
There are then many links and resources available once you get into =
the
Partner area.
To obtain 'Evaluation Software' (as a Registered Partner) it appears =
the
only way to do this is to purchase an 'Action Pack'. This costs 199UKP
plus Value Added Tax (VAT) at 17.5%. For this you get access to
16,000UKP worth of software.
This is for evaluation and test purposes, and should not be used to =
'run
your Company'.
So far, the only problems have been understanding just what some of =
the
fields wanted when going through the registration.
Also, I run a rather ancient machine, for 'general' Internet access
which caused me a little bother with Java VM debug windows popping up. =
-
Mainly whilst creating the Passport.
Other than that, no problems. I expect I will start getting email =
(opted
out of most options until I see the volume of information coming
through). They insist on a 'phone number, as well as a postal address,
so I may well get a call or some sort of welcome pack in the near
future.
Thanks for listening,
Phil Partridge
