All,

Marina (I think) posted info about an MS qualification(?) coming soon
for SBS.
This was in the past week, I am sure..
Could someone re-post the information please?

Not even on Technet.. Being in the UK it all costs so much (compared
with the States).
Recently had an offer letter from MSfor Technet Plus..
Only 375 UKP for single-user, or 596 UKP for single-server version if I
subscribed before 30 June 2005.

Unfortunately, the letter got to me on 3 July. :-(

Oh, you have to add 17.5% Value Added Tax to those prices as well in the
UK.

Ho-hum, just have to wait, and hope for a freebie half-day offering from
MS at some point.

Thanks anyway,

OK. Thanks for the feedback.
Being a 'one man band' I would think that would count me out. I presume
it is one of the designations where a company needs a number of MS
certified bodies to qualify, but I will hunt out the pre-requisites.

As a "one man band" you can become a Microsoft Registered Partner (you =
do need multiple MS Certified people to reach certified or gold level =
partner)

You can study for and take the 70-282 exam..

Then there is one more free assessment on the partner website and voila

Thanks for that Chris, I will follow it up..
In the past, when an employee, I had the time to trawl through the MS
certification website. These days, even finding time to invoice can be a
problem! ;-)
I WILL follow this up. And I must attempt to get some '2003' product
info. - Other than the odd bit in the Computer Press.
MS seem to send me very little these days, despite trying to get mail
re-directed when I left my previous employer.

Unless you know of a link or address for any of the above, many thanks,
and let's kill this one.. It is down to me to nag myself to follow it up
now.

Not sure how the partner program works outside the US.
My first suggestion would be to contact the Microsoft Office in the UK =
and ask to speak to someone regarding the process for becoming a =
registered partner in the UK.

Then once you've done that...
Ask if the small business specialist is a program/competency that's =
available to partners in the UK

Once you become a registered partner, you should have no problem getting =
"back in the loop" regarding communications from MS

As this may be of interest to others in the Group, this is my experience
so far...

YMMV, these are my personal reflections:

Have gone to the UK part of the Microsoft website, and found partner
program. As previously stated, registration is 'free'. - Obviously the
more people singing from the MS hymn-sheet, the better for MS!
As an individual, you can only become a Microsoft Registered Partner.
There are other levels (Certified and Gold, but you need multiple MS
Certified people in your organisation.
You end up needing a ? .net passport ? - which is similar to a cookie,
enabling 'the system' to know who you are.
You can then register, print out and 'electronically sign' the terms of
use and privacy statements. Which, as usual, don't print out without
cropping the right-hand-side. :-(
There are then many links and resources available once you get into the
Partner area.
To obtain 'Evaluation Software' (as a Registered Partner) it appears the
only way to do this is to purchase an 'Action Pack'. This costs 199UKP
plus Value Added Tax (VAT) at 17.5%. For this you get access to
16,000UKP worth of software.
This is for evaluation and test purposes, and should not be used to 'run
your Company'.
So far, the only problems have been understanding just what some of the
fields wanted when going through the registration.
Also, I run a rather ancient machine, for 'general' Internet access
which caused me a little bother with Java VM debug windows popping up. -
Mainly whilst creating the Passport.
Other than that, no problems. I expect I will start getting email (opted
out of most options until I see the volume of information coming
through). They insist on a 'phone number, as well as a postal address,
so I may well get a call or some sort of welcome pack in the near
future.

well Phil
Everything you've said is true...except you can use the Action Pack in a =

But there are some expenses involved with being a partner

As this may be of interest to others in the Group, this is my =
experience

You can then register, print out and 'electronically sign' the terms =
of
use and privacy statements. Which, as usual, don't print out without
cropping the right-hand-side. :-(
There are then many links and resources available once you get into =
the
Partner area.
To obtain 'Evaluation Software' (as a Registered Partner) it appears =
the
only way to do this is to purchase an 'Action Pack'. This costs 199UKP
plus Value Added Tax (VAT) at 17.5%. For this you get access to
16,000UKP worth of software.
This is for evaluation and test purposes, and should not be used to =
'run
your Company'.
So far, the only problems have been understanding just what some of =
the
fields wanted when going through the registration.

I'm a registered partner in the UK. You can get further up the ladder by
earning points for sales and specific skills as well for having people with
the traditional MCP qualifications.
